Are the Cons a Threat to National Security?

More than three years ago I started writing about how a shadowy group of theocons were infiltrating our government. And how Stephen Harper himself was a secret religious fanatic.

At the time even some of my friends didn't believe it could happen here.

But now nobody can deny it. The attacks on groups like Rights and Democracy, the vicious assault on women's groups, their war on gay Canadians just because of who they are and who they love.

The story is in the newspapers...even the Con Post.

For mainstream voters eyeing Stephen Harper amid the faltering fortunes of the federal Liberals, The Armageddon Factor-- a look at rising Christian nationalism in Canada by political observer Marci Mc-Donald -- is likely a book this Prime Minister doesn't want you to read.

Chief of staff Guy Giorno is strongly pro-life, backed by deputy chief Darrel Reid, who had a history of court fights against gay rights and same sex marriage while opposing abortion on demand. Mr. Harper has also hired former Christian educator and activist Paul Wilson as his policy director. Dozens of other staff and aides proclaim deep religious affiliations.

Even on TV...

And the Cons are fighting back like rabid animals.

Can you believe that? Accusing the CBC of waging a Faith War? When they are the ones waging a brutal Faith War on women, gays, and all kinds of other Canadians. Those hideous thugs. Those Big Liars.

And how do they explain this?

Spending 800-thousand dollars on BIBLES? When 70-thousand poor women die every year from unsafe abortions. The cruel inhuman BASTARDS.

And now a friend of mine...a gay Christian... says he may have found the teeny tiny footprints of a theocon plumber's gang that he believes may be up to some VERY naughty things.

And I say enough is ENOUGH.

You know how the Cons are always going on about national security to cover-up their other crimes? Well what would you call the infiltration of our government by a fanatic group of Christianists organized and heavily financed by extremist right-wing groups in the United States?

I call it a threat to our national security and our democracy, and I DEMAND a public inquiry.

These theocratic thug Cons almost got away with it because Canadians had never seen anything like them. They didn't believe it could happen here. But it did.

They are ruthless fanatics.

They want to turn Canada into Amerika.

Organize. Unite. Defeat them.

Don't let them win...

Aww, Simon! C'mon! You can't just leave us hanging like that?! "And now a friend of mine...a gay Christian... says he may have found the teeny tiny footprints of a theocon plumber's gang that he believes may be up to some VERY naughty things." I'm CONSUMED with curiosity! But, I know you'll speak when the time comes, so til then, I'll keep reading & watching!

hi CanNurse...I bet you are CONSUMED with curiousity. Why did I think you might be? ;) But then so am I because that's just about all he told me. All I know is he's been working on this project for over a year, so who knows what he might come up with? And I'm happy to know nothing, because that kind of shit scares the bejesus out of me, and I'm paranoid enough... :) And why not eh? Because let's face it I know it's hard for many Canadians to appreciate, but these theocons have managed to hijack a modern industrial democracy, so the stakes are ENORMOUS.
But even if mu buddy doesn't come up with some kind of smoking gun, and police in Ottawa can't figure out who stole the computers from Rights and Democracy, I still believe there is now enough evidence to call for a public inquiry. How much longer can we afford to wait while the Cons continue their culture war, and prepare to go after a majority? I realize that religion is dangerous ground to tread on, but we didn't choose the battlefield. They did...

I've been expecting this, their getting bolder and more obvious about their goals. Having been a born again/fundamentalist/evangelical christian (now atheist), I've been waiting for the inevitable invasion of the christofascist movement from the US into Canada, just as the so-called "Jesus Movement" swept up from the States in the 1970's and caught me up in it.

One thing I can tell you is that while rank and file fundies may see christian nationalism as a natural evolution (excuse the pun) of their mission to save the world, their leaders don't. The leaders of the religious right have known for some time that evangelism is by and large a failure, which, while it brings in the emotionally dazed and confused off the street and into the church and thus provides a source of income and manpower for the church, no crusade to tent meeting - no matter or lengthy or intense - has ever produced the real results or change they crave, and what they want isn't the expansion or furtherance of their god's kingdom on earth, but rather they wantcontrol for themselves. The preachers and evangelists see themselves as called to be rulers. They want to call the shots on a national - nay, global - scale. They may be "true believers" themselves, but this campaign is fueled solely by avarice, a desire for what they see as righteous control over others.

I'll watch with interest what you have to say about your friend's work.

Cheers,

N.

Agree, a public inquiry on all sorts of things. But we'd need an actual assertive opposition for that. ;-/
Wanted to pass along a link to a Xian site which is obviously organizing even more, politically. It's just bizarre.

hi ThinkingManNeil...thank you for your interesting comment. And you're right they have become bolder in recent months. I'm not sure why that is but it's probably a combination of factors. The synergy of all those groups is beginning to click, and they have been doing it long enough that they feel they can get away with anything. They feel they can turn anything into a talking point, and that if they repeat a Big Lie enough times we will believe them.
Another point you raise about the cross border influence of American Christian Right groups is also an important one too. They may not be sending their militias over the border...yet. But their organizing influence is still very important.
I still don't know what my friend is looking at, but it's a J-school project and hopefully they teach them something in places like that... :)

hi CanNurse...yes the fact that our opposition leaders are such wimps is beginning to get me down. But thanks for that link.
It's a wretched little group and I think this just about says it all:

Besides the obvious detrimental effects to children, SSM has dire consequences for our liberty. Within the first 7 years, the cost of same sex "marriage" has already been too high. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech have been squelched in Canada immediately following the legalization of homosexual "marriage", at provincial and federal levels. Canadian Christians are facing the sort of persecution not heard of since the soviet oppression of Eastern Europe which lasted until the 1980's.

I mean give me a break...these people are KRAZY.
But they are well organized and highly motivated.
And our side needs to do better in that regard. Because we are many more them, we are better than them, and apathy is killing this country...

hi anonymous...I may have taken a few liberties with that expression...but surely you're not suggesting that
Johnzilla and La Jason are plumbing
each other are you? Because that would be...um...HORRIBLE. ;)
