He seemed to have a cold, and a steady stream of snot flowed out of his left nostril, until he finally picked up his mask, and used it to wipe himself.
*Shudder*
But I don't think it was the cold that was making him look so diminished.
I think it's this existential threat...
The threat of a Con policy convention that's shaping up to be a zombie apocalypse..
Mr. O’Toole would have hoped the first party policy conference of his tenure would be a springboard toward an election platform and an opportunity to establish his political identity. Instead, he will be trying to cling to control when the virtual gathering is held in two weeks.
And for obvious reasons.
Captain Outhouse tried to please all the factions in his Trump North Party...
Only to end up pleasing none of them.
Now folks are telling Mr. O’Toole he has to choose between accommodating social conservatives and presenting a mainstream image to Canadians to win a general election. The trouble is that at this point, he can’t pick just one. He leads the Conservatives and they insist he do both.
His claim that all Cons are welcome in his Big Blue Tent is starting to look like a cross between a farce and a horror show...
With even some members of our shabby Con media now calling him the pandemic's biggest loser.
A year into the pandemic, the Conservatives are the only federal party that is consistently falling below its last election score in voting intentions.
It would be tempting to put the decrease mostly down to a failure to launch on the part of Erin O’Toole. Admittedly, it is a challenge for an incoming opposition leader to make an impression in the midst of a pandemic.
Still, the notion that the shoes Andrew Scheer left behind were so big that his successor is at a loss to fill them borders on mind-boggling.
And who can argue with that?
With all the latest polls showing O'Toole's Cons still tanking...
And O'Toole's polls going absolutely nowhere.
While Justin Trudeau is becoming even more popular as more Canadians get vaccinated.
Which no doubt has many Cons wishing they could give Captain Outhouse the hook.
You know, there's a bizarre rumour circulating in Ottawa that has the Cons deliberately trying to trigger an election, before they become even less popular.
Which might explain why they are holding parliament hostage.
While claiming that the Liberals are the ones who want an election.
But I think that O'Toole is just desperate, and is making it up as he goes along...
Love the graphics Simon, especially the dinosaur tent! Each one represents a legacy issue but some have been fed to the point they are attempting to project T-Rex. The Conservatives have always collected legacy issues but the old strategy was to influence but progressively diminish their importance with time as followers became comfortable with the new norm. The new Cons have been feeding the dinosaurs instead with the predictable outcome that sooner or later one of them will become large enough to trample the tent. Trump and catch all versions of charismatic religion trampled the GOP tent. Our hero the Outhouse is threatening to limit their intake of junk food before they trample the Canadian tent.

Thought you'd appreciate this one Simon. I thought of a way O'Stool can make a grand entrance at the circus tent convention. Right on the fifty yard line of the CFL Tidy Bowl game.

Archie's Comics might be too difficult as reading material for him though. Better to bring along a copy of Brian Lilley's latest Trudeau fanfic printed on recyclable Postmedia toilet paper.
Hi RT...I'm glad you liked that dinosaur cartoon. I think the cartoonists of Canada have done a brilliant job during this sad time, and I know they have helped me get through it. We shall see how big the Big Blue Tent really is, but the Cons will never convince me that they can change their stripes knowing how many right-wing kooks and religious fanatics infest their ranks. As that De Adder cartoon illustrates so well, O'Toole pretended he could satisfy everyone, only to anger just about everybody. The Harper Express left the station a long time ago, and it's never coming back...
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie...thanks for that great video. And I think you're right, it would be the perfect way for Captain Outhouse to make his entrance at the Con convention. Although with all the Cons he is annoying with his frantic flip flopping, the kibo would have to have an escape hatch so he can get away from them before they burn him at the stake. It's too bad we can't have an election as soon as the convention closes, it would be a most interesting campaign...
ReplyDeleteThis is a civil civil war I'll enjoy. The money bags and political operatives vs the SoCons. "quality" vs quantity.
ReplyDeleteEvery political movement/party has a cynics vs dreamers fight. The cynics must realize that not everything revolves around cold hard calculus (and that doing something from the heart isn't horrible) while the dreamers have to be somewhat grounded that what one wants and what one gets isn't great/compromise of half a loaf is better than none at all. It's not easy lessons for either side to learn.
The problem with the SoCons these days is they aren't giving any ground because they can't. As their positions become less mainstream everyday, all they can do is bitterly cling to their positions like the fanatics they are on things like evolution (COVID19 says hi) to abortion. Any attempt at compromise will open them up to internecine war among their ranks and further weaken them.
Justin Trudeau isn't the reason why Michelle Rempel drinks. Reality is.
"A year into the pandemic, the Conservatives are the only federal party that is consistently falling below its last election score in voting intentions."
ReplyDeleteSurprise surprise. Not. Canadians have had their fill of the dire and dour party that has sown fear and anxiety in a time requiring patience and optimism. Everything is political with these assholes and I am literally sick of it. As more Canadians get vaccinated and the tool continues his lies and Peewee keeps pulling his WeWe, the only trajectory for the Cons is down. Ignore the noise and remember that all we need is just a little patience.

He who has the gold makes the rules. This fact has not changed in 10,ooo years of history,
ReplyDeleteHi Dan....I too am looking forward to a Con civil war. I have to confess that I have been looking forward to one since the ghastly Harper regime came to power. But despite many disappointments I’m fairly optimistic that time has finally arrived. It won’t be bruising enough for me of course, but if we help pour fuel on the flames 🔥 it could make a cheery bonfire. And you’re right, it’s reality that’s making Cons like Rempel and Poilievre look so desperate.....
ReplyDeleteHi JD....One thing about a cult is that it can never change its stripes. The Cons are a bunch of bullies who were successful in destroying Dion and Ignatieff, but their foul tactics don’t work with Justin Trudeau. He’s too decent and Canadian for them, so the more they attack him the worse they look. And yes, it’s important to be patient, for the more vaccines Canadians receive can only boost Liberal fortunes, and give Trudeau another majority....🥳
ReplyDeleteI'm not watching the WeGhazi circus. I don't really give a fuck what happens to the organization because they're all about covering their own asses. I will say that I agree with them about the obvious: Charlie the tuna and his pet pigeon are just using it as a pawn to dunk on the Liberals because they have no credible alternative policy. Vaccines are going to ramp up exponentially in a couple weeks, the budget is going to drop and they've got SFA to hound the government on. They can all rot in hell along with the lugenpresse for all I care. Justin Trudeau isn't "corrupt" and he and his family deserve better than this attack from a bunch of pack hyenas. Especially Margaret. Fuck them all.
ReplyDeleteI said weeks ago that the "vaccine shortage" gambit had the objective of convincing the Liberals not to call a Spring election. It was predicated on the idea that the government was overpromising and would inevitably underdeliver. The likely argument was "the Liberals botched the acquisition of vaccines and look, here we are in the Spring, and the number of vaccines promised have still not arrived". Of course, the Liberals actually under promised and now that more vaccines are arriving than originally announced that strategy has been overtaken by events. The only saving grace for the Conservatives is it looks like Canadians in Conservative governed provinces have not yet realized that their provincial governments are screwing up the distribution of the vaccine.
ReplyDeleteNow the Conservatives are left with demanding that the Liberals not call an election, even though I have yet to hear any Liberal even suggest such a thing and even though, just six months ago, the Conservatives were itching for one. The reason is clear. If an election were held today the Conservatives would lose, possibly very badly and Mr. O'Toole would not even be able to retain the leadership of the Conservatives for an entire year.
What is curious is the NDP are singing from the same songbook. If NDP partisans, looking at the latest polling, are to be believed the NDP are on the cusp of replacing the Conservatives as the Official Opposition and then it would just be a short jump to government. You would think they would welcome an election to make this happen but they are instead demanding that the Liberals not call one. Maybe the polls are wrong (Hint: They are) and, despite the news stories to the contrary a few months ago, the NDP is still broke. It would not be able to conduct a real election campaign and that will be true for the whole of 2021. The NDP desperately wants to delay any election until mid 2022 at the earliest.
Hi Jackie...Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, but I had to deal with some family business, and it left me too exhausted to do just about anything else except eat and sleep, and sleep, and sleep. But at least I was able to miss the Poilievre/Angus Bullython which judging from what I have read must have been absolutely disgusting. I am just grateful that it seems to have had no effect on most Canadians, and is just a sign of desperation. The Cons and the Con media have run out of fake scandals, and are just flailing around pathetically. And in a few months we'll get a chance to finish them off for a good long time. BTW I have been reading your blog, and you are on fire. I love it and other readers should check it out at https://missfuddleduddle.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteHi Ottlib....The vaccine shortage was a shameful manufactured scandal, and as you point out it has backfired badly. Con premiers like Doug Ford are still trying to blame the feds for their own incompetence, but that will last only so long, and polls are already showing the Liberal becoming even more popular, while the Cons are going nowhere. As for the NDP, they have gained a few points but only by lying like thieves, and trying to claim credit for the work of others. When those lies are challenged I fully expect them to sink back to their usual place in the rankings. And if the Bloc numbers can also be deflated, the Liberals should be able to win another majority relatively easily. But as you know I am an optimist, and after seeing what happened to Trump, I feel we can do anything...
