In my last post I looked at how the Jason Kenney is assaulting Alberta's democracy, acting like a dictator, and making Alberta look like a banana or bitumen republic.
Going after those who would dare defy Big Oil, or dare investigate his corrupt government.
And even making plans to replace the RCMP, that is investigating his leadership campaign, with a police force he can control.
It's a public relations disaster.
So I was surprised to see how quickly the loser Andrew Scheer came running when Kenney blew his bullshit whistle.
For farmers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and across Canada, every day counts. They need to move their product to markets now. I join the Alberta Government’s call for Justin Trudeau to immediately recall Parliament to enact emergency legislation and get the CN Rail shipments moving. https://t.co/RWlJBARC7Z— Andrew Scheer (@AndrewScheer) November 19, 2019
And tried to make a one-day strike sound like a national catastrophe.
But then Scheer can't resist a chance to go after Justin Trudeau. It's all he knows, and after the way Trudeau humiliated him he's desperate.
So desperate that he doesn't seem to realize that Kenney could become another stinky albatross around his neck, as Gillian Stewart points out here.
Conservative leader Andrew Scheer has enough problems already.
He surely doesn’t need Alberta Premier Jason Kenney making his life — and the probability of turning Conservative fortunes around in Ontario and Quebec — any harder.
But that is exactly what Kenney is doing with his frantic push to position Alberta as an angry, demanding teenager whose threats to run away from home get louder by the day.
For that might make him popular in Jason Kenney's ugly and backward Albertonia, but it won't make him more popular in most other parts of Canada.
Why would more voters in central Canada decide to support Scheer and the Conservatives when Kenney, one of the party’s prominent premiers and surely the party’s alpha male, seems dead set on weakening Alberta’s ties to the federal government in order to humiliate Justin Trudeau no matter the consequences to the rest of the country?
Where playing Russian Roulette with the country's unity is not looked upon favourably, and is sometimes called treason.
All of which is strange, considering the desperate way Scheer tried to stay away from Doug Ford during the last election.
Even if in the end it didn't make a difference.
Ontario voters knew Scheer and Ford were joined at the hip, they made sure the Ugly American didn't become our prime minister.
And in every Ontario riding where Kenney campaigned the Cons went down in flames.
Which is exactly what could happen if Scheer is seen to be too intimate with Kenney.
The difference of course is that both Scheer and Kenney are religious fanatics, misogynists, homophobes, and oil pimps. So they are bound together in the most disgusting manner.
With both of them considering Justin Trudeau to be the Son of Satan, and renewable energy to be a threat rather than a solution.
So there is no hope for them, no future for these ghastly Cons...
And their epitaph will one day read as follows:
They called themselves The Trudeau Slayers. They were supposed to power the Cons to victory everywhere.
But corruption stuck to them like fly paper, so no decent Canadians could support them.
And they ended up burying their own Cons for at least a generation...
Curious to get your take on today's cabinet announcements, Simon. Kenney and Scheer no doubt shitting themselves over the Freeland news which I'm sure is why the Con media is trying to spin it as another JWR "demotion." I don't care about them because I'm more interested in what it means for the direction of the Liberals. All I know is that if Kenney continues to torch the "brand" and the Cons continue to double down on being the Bloc Rednecois, they really will be done for a generation if not once and for all. Hope so.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be so sure. I have fervently pro-Kenney, pro-Scheer partisan relatives in rural New Brunswick. They live in a region that gets way more per capita in transfer payments than basically anywhere else but they snap to attention when their party says it's time to cut those payments in the name of national unity.
DeleteThis shouldn't surprise us. Working-class conservatives always stand ready to proudly vote for another crack of the whip on their own backs.
Hi Jackie....I think the Trudeau cabinet, is a pretty good one although a person like Ralph Goodale will be missed. Unlike the first cabinet however, many of the ministers now have four years of experience, and that should make for a very stable government....
DeleteHi Sixth Estate....what you say may be true, some Con supporters are extremely stubborn, or stupid. And that's only made worse by their irrational hatred of Justin Trudeau. However, time is not on their side. Demography is destiny and the new generations are way more progressive than Conservative, so the future does belong to us...
DeleteNotice how Kenney planned to be away on a four-day trip to Texas when the UCP announced it was firing the guy who'd fined them hundreds of thousands of dollars and was continuing to investigate their campaign fraud? Kenney left his flunkies to deal with fallout as he partied and schmoozed with the oil barons. What a douche nozzle!
ReplyDeleteHi anon....Kenney has always been a miserable schemer and a base coward. But from now on his reputation for trying to get rid of his enemies, and the stinking corruption of his government, will follow him around like a shroud.....
DeleteKenney could be Dear Leader, Kim Dung Dong's long lost virgin brother, Jason Noh Dong. The traits are there, secrecy, abuses of power, destroying his perceived enemies, wanting a police state, etc. etc. etc. This clown is more toxic than all the tar ponds combined. If Scheer thinks parroting this dictator will help his cause then he's even dumber than I thought. "Dividing we stand, while others fall" is an apt motto for these self serving sleazeballs.
ReplyDeleteBehold Canada! Another provincial Con majority has gone off the rails, mired in corruption and sleaze. Ford hit the ditch and Kenney is a whiny little bitch. Try to imagine what these assholes would do with a federal majority and be sure to remember that the next time we go to the polls.

re: "the next time we go to the polls"
DeleteI like Chrystia, and it'll be awhile yet before he hands off the torch to her, but I'm going to miss Justin so much whenever he does. 😭 I'm already crying after that bittersweet cabinet ceremony. 😢 That being said, it'd be a fitting capstone to his legacy if Superman teams up with Wonder Woman to crush Lex Harper and his minions -- like Kudatah Klux Klanney -- once and for all.
It isn't off the rails. It is entirely within the guardrails. Conservative supporters do not care if their politicians are corrupt and dishonest. In fact I think they kind of like it.
DeleteHi JD....Yes, Ford and Kenney are doing as much damage to the Con brand on a provincial level as Harper did federally. One can only imagine what could have happened if the Scheer Cons had won the election and had been been able to provide backup for those two Con thugs. I really don't think our country would have survived. But luckily we beat the Cons, so Kenney and Ford are on their own, and will dig their own graves...
DeleteSixth Estate, of course it's business as usual for the Cons but any level headed individual will see them for who they are. That's why they lost to JT.
DeleteJD
MSM as noted is buried this story four pages down if reported at all. It makes SNC look like a virtuous episode. We now no for sure the media is fixed, and not four us.
ReplyDeleteHi Steve....yes, the Con media is picking up where it left off. Yesterday Lawrence Martin wrote a column where he lambasted the biased media is dividing America. Maybe he and others should take a look at this country, where the problem is far worse....
DeleteYep, and Randy Bobandy wants to take over Alberta public pensions. His job creation just lost Calgary university 250 jobs.............At least if we separate, we can then invade Sask with our pitch forks. Show those hillbillies who is the true billy.
ReplyDeleteHi anon....Kenney's plan to fiddle around with the pension system will be a double edged sword. It will alarm even some of his own supporters, and in the rest of the country it will annoy Canadians who don't want the very successful CPP to be weakened. And that can only hurt the Cons....
DeleteKenney cheated his own party to ensure he was elected leader so why would supporters believe he would not cheat them for personal gain. The answer is that after 40 years of undying Con support the idea of admitting that perhaps they made a mistake by voting Con this one time is just too much to comprehend. If one mistake perhaps there were others and then people might conclude they were stupid....if necessary its much better to go down with the ship while cursing out Trudeau and the Liberals. Regardless of whether of not the economy bounces back the "Kenney saved us or Trudeau destroyed us" outcomes are a win win in Con land. Fortunately not everyone has invested 40 years of their life into the Con scam and are willing to consider other options. Suspect that with strategic thinkers such Notely and Freeland picking away at the Con bubble both no plan Kenney and Scheer could experience a major implosion. The attached articles summarize the results of 40 years of Con devotion as well as how strategic thinking hobbled unbridled expansion of the tarry behemoth. The Cons had other options such as moving to value added products or squeezing more revenue from existing volumes but when it comes to exploiting resources Cons are short sighted bottom feeders.

Sadly this is correct. I remember not so many years ago I knew both Liberals and Conservatives, as well as of various other affiliations, who I would say were intelligent and perceptive and well-versed on current affairs. I even had a bit of a red Tory phase myself.
DeleteThis is increasingly no longer the case (and we can only look south of the border to see that this trend will continue to its maximum limit). The Conservatives I know are, virtually without exception, appallingly ignorant and prone to the most preposterous conspiracy theories. Many have degrees and are perfectly competent in their respective fields, but when it comes to politics, they have gone utterly off the deep end and are quite simply mad.
Hi RT....The Kenney saved us Trudeau destroyed us will probably help feed the delusions of the Cons. But with every passing day the tarry monster keeps shrinking, and it's only a matter of time before reality hits them hard. They have hitched their chuck wagon to the wrong horse and sooner or later they are going to pay for it big time....
DeleteHi Sixth Estate....I read an article recently looking at why the populist Cons of today lie so much. And the conclusion was they enjoy it, it gives them a perverse pleasure. I await a psychological study to try to explain this phenomenon, but I believe it must have something to do with their nostalgia for a lost past. They don't like the new reality, so they reject it absolutely. And hopefully like blind lemmings, the cliff of history awaits them....
ReplyDeleteHi Simon
DeleteYes it could be that their brains are hard wired to produce an endorphin rush proportional to the size and damage the lie causes. Then again perhaps its just a child like response to justify their beliefs. If a child believes a monster dwells under the bed their imagination will develop all types of reasons why it is so. As our legal system has also discovered child like minds are also very susceptible to implanted memories. Take you pick arrested development, pleasure or a combination of both, the results are the same but treatment varies.
RT
Hi RT....Studies have shown that Cons have larger fear glands in their brains, so a lot of their behaviour can be explained by that. Their virulent racism for example could be fear of the other, their love of authoritarian figures explained by their desire to be protected like big babies. Once upon a time it might have been useful to have ultra cautious humans, to act as brake on the more reckless others and help prevent them from becoming sabre tooth tiger food. But nowadays their exaggerated fear gland is a threat to themselves and others....
DeleteO/T but what kind of a crazy timeline are we living in when Doug adopts a more conciliatory tone towards PMJT than Jason, Andy, or Jag and Darling Nikki? He even addressed him as Prime Minister when nobody else has, including the garbage media! Oh my God, THIS GUY right now is the adult in the room??? Reminds me of Chris Christie hugging Obama...
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie....I suspect that Justin Trudeau's victory hit Ford with the impact of a cruise missile.. Along with the boos he was receiving his primitive brain was able to figure out that his crude redneck act as threatening to take him down like Scheer. But of course he really is a brutish redneck so It is all an act...
