What Christmas Means to Me. Again

It's Christmas Day, and although I'm an atheist, and I believe that our beautiful planet is our heaven and our hell.

And that it's up to us to decide what world we want to live in. Not up to some invisible deity or some bloodthirsty Godzilla.

And although I hate the shopping and the greed. And although I know it can be a sad and lonely time for many.

I was raised in the Christian tradition, I believe in the earthly message of Jesus the revolutionary, I share the vision of those fighting for a kinder, gentler world.

So I do love this time of the year.

The lights, the food, the warm feelings, the random acts of kindness, because that is how I imagine the world I want to live in would be like all year round.

The one I know I will never live in, until the bestial Cons who infest this planet are defeated, and the humble inherit the earth...

And this cruel Harperland, where there are so many.

Where so many go to bed hungry, while its depraved leader does nothing to help them, would destroy our social safety net, but dares call himself a Christian.

And then there is the music of Christmas, and the songs I used to sing when I was a budding juvenile delinquent dressed up as an angel.

You know, the angel with a black eye, in a choir like this one...

The words never did, and still don't mean anything to me. But isn't the sound of gentle humanity GLORIOUS?

Imagine what a beautiful world we could build, if more boys were raised to be kind not killers, we were really our brother and sister's keeper. And there was really peace on earth.

Oh well. From me and my wonderful companion Sébastien, who makes me believe in his strong but quiet way that we can build that earthly paradise, if we fight for it hard enough.

And that we can definitely build a better country than this hideous Harperland.

To all my readers who support me so much, have kept me company for so many years on the long road to our Day of Liberation, and who I love so much.

Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noël, Happy Holidays everybody !!!!

    My sentiments exactly, Simon!

Thank you for being there for those of us who believe in what this country was and must be returned to. Look forward to reading more on your thoughts, hopes and dreams in 2015. A lot of work to be done to convince the majority of our population that Harper has to go, but WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!

Enjoy the day, Simon. All the best to you and your wonderful Seb!

    1. hi Wendy...thanks again, and all the best to you. I am but one voice among many, as are you, but when we raise all our voices against the foul Harper regime it does become a mighty chorus, and like the trumpets at Jericho, it will help bring down the walls of the Con regime...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Keep all those articles coming, eh?

Seems it is quite clear that a Harper majority is out of the question in the coming election and that despite the snarling going on between the Liberals and the NDP, I doubt that they would not come together to form a working arrangement if one of them wins a minority government. Or to come together to throw out the Harper minority government.

Of course, I would not be surprised if Dear Closet Leader would cheat (more robocalls, election fraud) or to create false flag operations threatening the security of Canadians. This guy actually makes Mulroney look honest.

    1. hi anon...thanks, and a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2015 to you and your loved ones. And yes, I think you're right. It seems pretty clear to me that Harper will not be able to win a majority, and should he be seen to be in reach of one, I am pretty sure that he would see a lot of his tepid supporters run for the exits. And if he does manage to get a minority, the pressure on the opposition parties to topple the Cons will be overwhelming and irresistible. The progressive parties need to do more to attack the Cons and communicate their message to the hordes of complacent Canadians, but I do believe that in the end the desire for change will trump all others...

    1. hi Lorne...thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours. Like you I find blogging a way to share my horror at the actions of the foul Con regime. Let us hope that this year will see the end of that nightmare...

  7. Hope you had a Merry Christmas, Simon. And Best Wishes for a Happy 2015 (with Harper gone!)

    That said...

Glen McGregor of Ottawa Citizen predicts another Con majority in 2015 because:

    1. Cons should win 15-20 of 30 new federal ridings

    2. The Fair Elections Act will give Cons a real advantage

    3. starting in July 2015, families with children start receiving a massive monthly cheque from the gov't

    4. Cons are flushed with cash, and can afford to wage their "air war" against Trudeau outside the writ period for months and months

  8. hi David... thanks a lot and Merry Christmas and a Happy Harperless New Year to you too. I had a very good Christmas, no presents because it was only the two of us this year, but lots of food. *Burp* And yes I saw that Power and Politics panel, and McGregor's prediction. I believe my clan and his slaughtered each other for centuries and now I understand why. So never trust a McGregor and don't believe that production. As I said above, when the time comes for Canadians to focus and decide, I'm still betting that the desire for change will prevail. Finally, thank you for all your help, you have provided me with a wealth of information for which I am really grateful. And I bet so are many of the people who read this blog. So thank you from them...

  9. Hope you and Sébastien have a happy festive season. I've had a couple of suppers with friends - and of course, good food and wine, here in Québec - but very sedate - getting old I guess? Nobody ate or drank too much... Renzo is chugging along at almost 19.

I'm not religious either, but here is some good news about a historic church in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, an architectural jewel in the old east end: http://ici.radio-canada.ca/regions/Montreal/2014/12/25/002-eglise-tres-saint-nom-de-jesus-noel.shtml I taught languages at the school beside it - we were working for the Hochelaga YMCA, and there weren't enough classrooms there.

And I'm SO relieved we won't be hearing any more about the creep who murdered Jun Lin, several kittens and his own puppy. The only thing I write about that on news sites is that if people took the abuse of animals seriously, Jun Lin might still be alive...

  10. Simon and David only time will tell but the apathy amongst Canadians is overwhelming and Harper feeds on that. Hopefully he has pissed off enough Canadians that they will come out in droves and sack forever the phoney Mackay/Harper con artist party. No more party for them on parliament hill no more limo rides for ex-dictator Harper. No more classless pictures of Harper fondling a kitty cat etc...
