Will The Big Smoke Destroy Pierre Poilievre And His Cons?

The plan was just another example of Pierre Poilievre's feverish compulsion to destroy Justin Trudeau and Canada.

Not necessarily in that order.

He announced that he was going to personally filibuster Parliament and delay the latest budget until Trudeau agreed to mutilate and neuter the carbon tax.

But sadly for Poilievre, while the filibuster plan was dubious to say the least, the timing was disastrous.

Coming as it did as millions of Canadians were choking in the smoke of hundreds of massive forest fires.

And although he likes to compare himself to Winston Churchill, his filibuster speech was so bad, people were calling him a fascist clown.

And some like me were wondering whether he was losing his marbles...

Because that was weird, and so was the rest of what he had to say....

To make matters worse, it turns out that like the grubby grifter Poilievre himself, the filibuster was fake

A particular level of self-aggrandisement seems to be taking hold in the Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, as he describes things that are not reflective of reality.

He promised that he was going to rise in the House of Commons at 7 PM and begin a filibuster of the budget bill, and that he wouldn’t stop until the government backed down and acceded to his demands.

Except it was all bullshit.

There wasn’t going to be a filibuster. The House had already passed a programming motion, thanks to the NDP, that laid out just how many hours left of debate there were before the final debate, and Poilievre couldn’t just talk and talk past he expiry of that clock. It was already set in stone.

He wasn’t filibustering anything. He was showboating.

Oh boy, it's hard to believe that Poilievre is a Canadian MP, let alone the leader of the opposition, and a foul climate change denier at a time like this one.

He didn't even see it coming, or thought he could he could safely ignore it. He couldn't.

And to make matters worse for Poilievre, the way many of his supporters are reacting is showing his foul Convoy Party to be as Canadian as a three dollar bill.

It's crazy stuff, that makes you wonder whether many of the Cons are mentally ill.

But here's the good news, Polls apparently show many of his one-time supporters heading for the exits in droves.

And who can blame them?

That is not a leader by any stretch of the imagination.

As I'm sure you know, I've been predicting for a very long time that climate change would be the death of the Cons.

And it seems now that time has come, and the writing is on the wall, or in the sky...

The planet burning Cons are about to get shafted.

And I think this ugly little Con now knows it…

It couldn't happen to a grubbier bunch of losers.

The decent people of Canada have had enough.

Burn baby burn...

  2. Hi anon...Are you seriously suggesting that Poilievre would attract more feminists than Justin Trudeau? If so you must be deluded. Or have you forgotten how the grubby little man secretly embedded a tag in his YouTube channel to attract woman hating incels to his cause? And then there are those reports that when he polishing Stephen Harper's behind, he liked to bully female civil servants to tears just for the hell of it. We have so much dirt on Poilievre that when we decide to bury him, we're going to need a front end loader....

  4. Hi rumleyfips....Yes, when I saw that picture I was amazed, I've never see Poilievre looking so miserable. I don't know why he looked like he was about to burst into tears, but I suspect that his grotesque campaign is finally catching up to him. I think he thought that spewing lies and smearing Justin Trudeau 24/7 would make people like him. But this is Canada not Trumpland and I think a lot of Canadians are getting tired of his shit show. He's changed his profile picture to one that shows him smiling, and he's removed his glasses, in a desperate attempt to make himself more popular. But I believe the latest polls are showing him that it's just not working. He was always a loser, and will always remain one....

  5. He was likening Mr. Bernier to the Liberals during a campaign stop for the by-election, which is probably showing that the CPC are in real danger of losing that seat. It might not happen but that seat should be a shoe in for the Conservatives, so Mr. Poilievre campaigning there and making such statements gives me pause.

Having another fascist in Parliament would not be a good thing but a Bernier victory would somewhat indicate that Mr. Poilievre's strategy of appealing to RWNJs is not working. That would leave him in a kind of a pickle. Does he continue with it or does he change? Neither would be appealing to him and since he lacks both political smarts and political courage it would explain the look of concern on his face.

As for the Conservative climate plan, or lack thereof, it is indeed their Achilles Heal in the parts of the country where they need to pick up support in order to win government. They will need to come up with something resembling a credible plan while not offending the climate change deniers in the CPC. If the experience of Mr. O'Toole is any indication that would be an almost impossible task. Again, he has a tough choice, which would further explain the look of concern on his face.

In general, maybe he is finally realizing that just trashing Justin Trudeau all of the time is not enough. He actually has to come up with policy and considering the multi-headed beast that is the CPC whatever policy he comes up with he is going to make some of his current supporters very unhappy or alienate potential new CPC voters. If that is so then yes he should be concerned.

  6. Hi Ottlib....You might be right about Bernier. Poilievre is desperate to try to make sure that Mad Max loses that by-election, for having to compete with another fascist voice in Parliament could cost him votes in many other ridings. But I still believe that the climate horror show we just lived through, is mainly to blame for pushing Poilievre to the edge of a nervous breakdown. For he surely must realize that another spell of really hot weather, and more wild fires, would incinerate his chances of ever being taken seriously. And finally you're right, he may have finally realized that smearing Justin Trudeau every day of the year is making Trudeau look more sympathetic, while making Poilievre look like a pig. And as you point out, getting out of that trap will not be easy...

  7. You say PP wants people to like him. We have seen this movie before.

Mulrooney, Manning ( who even changed from glasses to contacts ( , Harper ( once you get to know him you will like him ) , Sheer , OldToole, PP . All unlikable: some hated.
I guess that when your party is comprised of nasty assholes, you';re going to get a nasty asshole for leader.

  9. Instead of admitting failure and/or being horribly wrong, it seems the Man Made Global Climate change denialists are doubling down.

One would think the torching of Fort MacMurray in 2016 to similar fires would have opened up some minds.

  10. After having to put my gloves and nearly losing my sanity during this week when I had to analyse french youtubers ranting against wokism, feminism and disney remakes where the main character is not white, (if I can give you a few names, such as Mister Fred, Julien Rochedy, Medhi Mathieu, Mos Majorum and many more although 'We should be open minded to the opposite opinion') I'm always wondering if they really hit the spot. As a matter of fact, just like them, Poilievre talks about these issues as if these safe space militants should be 'locked up' when in fact he thinks he's the only one who stands up against them. Thus, everytime I listen to people like both of them pitting anyone who's not their clone, it is certainly to try to totally axe out completely the structure rather than fix situations that make them get negative press. Man, I know it's not linked to today'S blog, but by god are these right wing dofus with an unshareable wrath just enjoy stereotyping anything that is not straight, non-binary or again even making links between feminism activist and the environment. If you're willing to check these names and throw a laugh on how they slander, be my guess.

  11. Hi rumleyfips...Yes, unfortunately for the Cons their evil far-right ideology makes their leaders unable to connect with most decent Canadians. Most of them are bullies like Poilievre, the cult of the individual makes them corrupt, cruel, and unable to connect with poor and suffering people, and the extraordinary number of religious fanatics that infest their ranks makes them more like a cult than a party. And the bottom line is if these fascist thugs ever gain power again they will destroy this country and its values beyond recognition....

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hi Steve...It's more than just pathetic. By wearing a jacket with Prime Minister on it Poilievre is copying Donald Trump, and it's a warning about the dark place he would take this country. The next election will determine whether this country will survive or not, and I hope enough Canadians realize that before it's too late...

  13. Hi Dan...Yes, you would think that what happened to Fort McMurray the climate change deniers that infest our land might have smartened up. And now even with the situation even more threatening, they're still going around denying that the early fire season has anything to do with global warming, and blaming it all on arsonists, and of course Justin Trudeau. But if as some have predicted the broiling heat waves return later this summer, they will look like reckless idiots, and it will mark the beginning of the end of the fossil fuel era. And also hopefully make the end of Pierre Poilievre and his filthy Cons...

  14. Hi Myworld1916...I know how you feel, no sane person could feel otherwise. Sometimes I feel I'm living in a giant lunatic asylum with crazy people spouting off everywhere. But luckily, although the screaming of the Convoy Party crazies is at times deafening much of that noise is created by bots, and when the time comes they will be exposed as much less than they would have was believe. They want to make us give up, they want to suppress our vote as Harper and Poilievre once tried to do, but if we stand our ground, and attack them harder than ever, we shall crush them in the next election...

PP fiddles a screechy Chinese tune while Canada burns. It’s all just part of the three ring circus designed to distract in his quest for political power. Although he didn’t create the big blue tent for the emotionally challenged, he is their current ringmaster charged with keeping the diverse group of retrograde axe grinders dreaming of the day when they will control the levers of government and oily prosperity complete with biblical morality will return to the land. At this stage in the election cycle it’s all about trashing Trudeau, the bigger than life symbol of everything wrong. This is in order to keep the base motivated and the team spirit alive so they don’t accidentally wander off and have a newsworthy lunch with the far right German AfD Nazi leaning party, defect to Mad Max’s tent or worse attack the ringmaster. In his mind it is a small price for Canadians to pay.
Close to election time PP will attempt to pivot with platform goodies that will appeal to a swath of voters who have not been paying attention. It worked for Smith, can it work for PP?
In reality how can anyone, except for the base, vote for a politician who promotes horse dewormer to cure Covid but here we are. PP is not far behind with his climate denial, crypto cure for inflation and shunning the world economic forum by embracing the “great reset” conspiracy but will anyone remember when the US owned media blares out his awesome leadership abilities and the goodies roll out.
On the other hand PP’s baggage train is a gift that keeps on giving so perhaps it’s a matter of Canadians enduring short term pain for long term gain. In the interim it’s devastating to watch the increasing number of climate change victims and lack of long term climate disaster planning while the government is distracted by crazy fiddle music.

Meanwhile PP’s # 1 media booster has been fined 15 million by the SEC for swindling their clients by manipulating the perceived value of their junk bonds. A relatively desperate act that causes one to wonder if any of these bonds are owned by sovereign entities and what they might receive in return. Hopefully the news will become the news before the next election rolls around.

  16. Climate change is a threat to all right wing parties in the world right now and they know it. That is one of the reasons why these parties have turned away from democracy to some extent. In some countries they have gone full on authoritarian while in other countries they have been nibbling around the edges.

The theme is the same though. Climate change is making them unelectable in fair contests so they change the rules to give them a chance instead of admitting the reality of the changing climate and coming up with workable policies to deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi RT....I agree, the circus act of Poilievre and his ghastly Cons is just an attempt to distract Canadians from more important issues like climate change. He is also trying to head off the challenge from Maxime Bernier who is running in that by-election by trying to prove that he hates Trudeau more than Bernier does. Thanks to the Cons this country is becoming a madhouse, and I fear for its future. But the whole world has been up ended by the pandemic, and maybe as you say it's a matter of enduring the short term pain for long term gain. I've got so many things I want to do, but I keep getting dragged back into the Con swamp. And I am determined to help make those fascists pay for what they are doing to our country...

  18. Hi Ottlib...It frustrates me to see how easily the Cons here and elsewhere are able to distract attention away from the growing threat of climate change with one fake scandal after the other. The other day I read that in different parts of Mexico temperatures were soaring over the 40 degrees mark, in Scotland they also experienced some of the hottest weather ever, and yet despite the Big Smoke here it seems that life is continuing as if it never happened. But it will happen again and again, and there will be hell to pay...

  20. Yikes, Skippy looks straight downtrodden in that last shot. I can kinda-sorta understand him though. When I was a wee lad I thought I'd be a hockey player like Patrick Roy-Borje Salming (RIP!)-Raymond Bourque-Steve Yzerman and I wore their jerseys but then I grew up and got a career more suited to my ability.
Unfortunately for Skippy, Sun TV is long gone so he might actually have to go to the private sector once he is disposed of.

Oh, and Olivia Chow could be T-Dot's next mayor and Oxford could flip to the Liberals on Monday. What, oh what, will the pundits do this time? One can only wonder...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Pierre D - Are you new here? :)

If the Liberals lose any of the by-elections the pundits will point to it as "proof" that the Liberals in general and PMJT in particular are well past their best before date.

If they actually win Oxford then Bob Fife will report how the Trudeau Foundation, the United Federation of Planets, Darth Vader and Justin Trudeau's hair worked with the Chinese to interfere with the 2029 election (That year is not a typo). The media will then be certain to duly report and amplify the "story".

If Mr. Poilievre loses any of the other by-elections he should win, to someone else besides the Liberals, the silence from the pundits will be deafening.

  22. Heh!
Well said ottlib! I'm not new but I'm wet behind the ears.
SKippy was on local radio today and it was a whole lot of nothing. Just the same old tropes from the same old well and we know what's going to happen if he gets elected.
But there has been some criticism of the by-elections, from Andrew Coyne, of all people? You have to wonder if the Editors at the Globe will let that pass for long.

On the additional plus side, Olivia Chow seems to be on the verge of winning Toronto. Doug Ford is losing his mind; how could his well-crafted plans for a police city be so easily brushed aside by...the electorate? :-)

  24. Chantal is definitely a pro-Quebec CPC stooge so she can't be too happy that they're behind in the polls, that Olivia Chow is likely the next mayor and there's infighting in CPC and that PP is nothing more than a footnote.

Too bad for the CONs they only win when they suppress the vote...and that won't happen in 2025.

WTF. As if the Post con media machine wasn't destructive enough now there are plans to merge with Nordstar. The justification is preserving trusted journalism which consists of Con fed political fluff massaged by monkeys/bots to emotionally engage the truth seekers while avoiding anything of real informational value such as the climate or what their favorite con fluffers have been up to. Hopefully the feds have the balls to put an end to this madness.

That leaves the Nat Observer and Tyee as the few progressive voices in Canada, right?

And they wonder whyh it's difficult to make money...if all the papers are saying the same thing and singing from the same hymn book, why am I reading?
I'll just stick to CBC, they are critical of government AND offer progressive stories AND offer local and Indigenous takes too.

  27. Hahha Skippy thought that by going without eyewear and wearing a sweater he'd improve his standing except he still treats the media like trash.
Jackie Blue is correct that Justin should wear glasses and show up in Parliament with them, SKippy would be so enraged at the Eyewear Equity that he'd storm out.

Poor CPC, must really be tanking if Skiippy is doing this stuff.

PP's makeover makes him even more hideous than before. His hateful, lying, cockeyed, cesspool eyes are easier to see and the anus under his nose still spews the same old bullshit. Sadly, our tax dollars probably paid for it(I want a refund!). The Cons will never learn the age old results of putting lipstick on a pig. Memo to Cons! It's still a pig.
