Erin O'Toole and the Revolt of the Con Bigots

It was billed as Erin O'Toole's breakthrough moment. The moments when 62 Con MPs who had voted to keep on torturing LGBT kids, changed their minds.

And voted unanimously to ban conversion therapy.

But I never believed it. I could smell the stench of bigotry.

And I was right.

Some of the many SoCons in O'Toole's grubby party are vowing to gp after the gay kids again.

Like the religious fanatic and ugly misogynist Arnold Viersen.

I am opposed to to Bill C-4 as written and should have said no, but I didn't react fast enough. I'm sorry.

Many of my colleagues and I feel strongly that a future Conservative government needs to introduce a law that reaffirms that religious freedom is a fundamental right and to fix the definition of conversion therapy in the criminal code.

I was and continue to be opposed to C-4 in its current form and could and should have said no, but I did not.

My colleagues and I feel strongly that a future Conservative government needs to introduce a law to reaffirm that religious freedom is a fundamental right and to fix the definition of conversion therapy in the Criminal Code.

And lastly but not leastly, the lumbering Ted Falk, who has called vaccines more dangerous than the Delta variant, and now claims he was "blindsided."

I would like to say that I am deeply disappointed and troubled by the decision to fast-track Bill C-4 —and having done so in a way that, frankly, blindsided many Conservative MP’s, including myself.

From day one, as an elected official, my desire has always been to be a voice for the voiceless and vulnerable, to defend the religious freedom of Canadians, and protect the autonomy of the family. Knowing my history as an MP on these issues, you can well understand my alarm with what happened. I am sorry that I did not act quicker and voice my opposition to stop this from happening without debate or study.

So far only three of the SoCons in the Con caucus have spoken out against O'Toole, but we all know there are many many more just waiting to jump him...

And as Althia Raj reports, all that seething frustration has already caused a "bloodbath."

The brewing tensions of the past three months, since the Conservatives’ disappointing election loss, came to a head last Wednesday in what one MP described as a “bloodbath.”

The blood spilled on the caucus floor belonged to party Leader Erin O’Toole, the MP offered in vivid detail. It was the culmination of weeks of frustration, anger, lies, betrayal, shifting alliances, scheming and plotting that have come to characterize the human drama behind the scenes between O’Toole and his caucus.

It's a real mess.

There are different cliques of MPs: those opposed to lockdowns, those upset with O’Toole’s reversal on carbon pricing, those upset with his hands-off approach to Bill 21, those upset over the rush to pass C-4, those who support C-4, those angry over Sen. Denise Batters’s expulsion from caucus, those upset by what they see as the public hanging of Alberta MP Shannon Stubbs.

And it can only get worse, as the increasingly desperate Cons plot to carve up their turkey leader...

In fact, so forlorn is poor old O'Toole, that he has been forced to run last year's Christmas message...
It's not bad. The O'Toole family imitating the Griswolds, and making shiny Big Boy look like an idiot. All that's missing is a Poilievre in a pear tree.

But considering what LGBT Canadians did to the Cons this year by exposing the hidden bigotry of the religious fanatics. And shattering the unity of their party.

I think I still prefer this version of the Twelve Days of Christmas...

You know, we live in scary times...

But the Harper Party is almost dead.

And we're still alive.

So I think it's time to celebrate...

Bill C-4 was the greatest gift to the Kristian Kon Kaucus. Did your daughter kiss a girl and like it? Well, a binder and some puberty blockers will fix that until she can get reassignment surgery. Now she's a transman attracted to girls! Her, oops his, Christian soul is now unsullied by sin. And best of all, under C-4 no counsellor can even suggest the child would be happier as a lesbian.

There's a reason why Iran has some of the most skilled reassignment surgeons - the mad mullahs made surgery mandatory to "fix" gays and lesbians. I figured the Kristian Kon Kaucus had figured that out when they supported the bill.

  2. If there is a fight between the reformatories and the reformatories , can there be a winner. Of course, the winner will be all of Canada. What a great Christmas present.

  3. Hi anon@8:26AM….What absolute nonsense. Bill C4 with protect LGBT kids from the depraved bigoted Cons who would threaten their lives. And as I pointed out in my post I will also help divide the Cons, and make sure that no decent Canadians will vote for them. I know you’re disappointed but too bad, history is moving on and your kooky Cons are being left behind….

  4. Hi Rumleyfips….Yrs the Cons are started to fight themselves. The latest dissident is the hardline anti-abortionist Rachael Harder, who is now joined the ranks of the anti-vaxxers. The Cons are rotting like a fish from the head down, and watching them disintegrate is going to give us one of the best political shows of 2022….🥳

Judging by their comments one could think the tool duped the SoCons into voting for C21. However, it's not plausible that they wouldn't know what they were voting for. I think their 'after the fact' aversion to it is that their flock of holier than thous have been raining hell down upon them for doing so. After all, it was a sneaky and underhanded thing to do. How dare they act like Cons.
Regardless, the net result is further division among the party of dividers and anyone who was lulled into thinking they have changed will see it as the farce it is. So it's all good. Erin will be pulling out his few remaining hairs over this as he and the Griswolds embark on their best Christmas ever. Will it be a sunny and warm one or will he, ahem, lead by example and chill out at Stornoway amid the memories of all the loser Cons before him? I guess we'll know soon enough.

  6. December 26 is Boxing Day. I know the original holiday has nothing to do with pugilism and is more like an early British version of what we now call "regifting." But since I can remember, I've marked the day with a commemorative viewing of a Rocky movie marathon. For the past few years now, I've started off the binge-watching with my DVD of God Save Justin Trudeau, the documentary about the PM's famous career-making bout with Patrick Brazeau that proved to be a metaphor for his political trajectory as the scrappy underdog hero. (And of course it's a fun reminder that JT's birthday is Christmas too.)

I will definitely be watching it again this year, along with the Sly Stallone saga. Maybe some WWE Wrestlemania classics too. But I have to say, the Royal Rumble in the Tory Toilet Tent is turning out to be one hell of an undercard to watch. It couldn't happen to a more deserving group of bigots and anti-vax cranks. Pigeons are especially known to get ornery, but I wonder, will Cathy, Arnold, Ted or Leslyn be the one to bite off the old tool's ear? Mike Tyson would be thoroughly impressed with the Cons' penchant for poking their leader and eating each other alive. So would Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp, at least if it devolves into a pie fight after the holiday feast!

Similar to the Covid virus the Cons have to become the nouveau Cons in order to increase replication so they are shedding the high profile signature radicals in hopes of infecting a larger segment of the population. Once they form a minority government,Faustian deals can be struck with the other viral fragments. They are all have the same objective.
The business about we were caught by surprise and will make legislative amendments to bill C-4 once in power is just code wording for "take a hike if you are an over the top bible thumper but if you are a little more patient stick with us as good things will happen". Its a tricky transformation, shed more supporters than they gain and they will never get to form a coalition government with the nut bars. Initial messaging has to be about precise surgical removal of the signature radicals while keeping the transformed virus alive for the coalition phase closer to election time. Efforts that help them shed more supporters than they gain is time well spent.

  8. Yes, when I saw the news about how a bunch of Cons really didn't intend to vote for the Conversion Therapy Ban but somehow that O'Toole devil made them do it, I just laughed -- what a bunch of fumblers, the whole incompetent bunch of them.
And merry Christmas, Simon -- keep up the great work you are doing every day on your blog.

  9. Hi JD….I agree with you, I find it hard to believe that O’Toole duped his bigot flock. I know they’re not too bright, but that’s ridiculous. I think they panicked, were stampeded into passing the bill, and are now claiming they didn’t know what they were doing. The devil made me do it😩 But the good news is that the fault lines in the Cons are now impossible to conceal, and with a little luck it will be the beginning of the end for O’Toole…

  10. Hi Jackie….Yes, the Royal Rumble in the Tory Toilet Tent is just what we need to cheer us up after this horrible year. And like you I can’t wait to see who will be the next to crawl out of the shadows and start denouncing O’Toole. Sadly for them they have nobody to replace him, but that should only drive them crazier,if that’s possible, and make them even less popular. The Con media will be doing what it can to try to cook up another fake scandal, but their credibility is also on life support so I don’t see them being able to do much damage. The Con commission will bring down its verdict on O’Toole just before Parliament resumes, and one way or the other, I can’t see that loser coming out unscathed. I’m going to have a bit of a quiet Christmas, but with that present under the tree I’m not complaining…🎄🎄

  11. Hi RT….O’Toole and the Con establishment are no doubt hoping that they can neutralize the religious fanatics and other kooky Cons in their caucus. But there are just so many of them, I can’t see how they can do that without tearing their party apart. O’Toole is definitely trying to soften his image these days, but after swimming so long in the Con sewer the stench will cling to him like a blanket, so I doubt he’ll fool many people….

  12. Hi Cathie….Thank you for those kind words, which are very much appreciated, especially after this dreadful Covid year. And Merry Christmas to you Cathie for helping to keep the lights burning in our beautiful Canada. Between Covid and the Cons we have been truly tested, but I am confident that we are winning our battle against both scourges, and that 2022 will be a much happier year…

  13. The thing that strikes me the most when I watch what is happening to the Conservatives is the almost total lack of coverage of it in the media. We receive dribs and drabs but otherwise crickets.

When the Liberals were in opposition after they lost the 2006 election the media would not shut up about the divisions in the Liberal Party, whether they were real or not.

But I am sure that it is only a coincidence.

  14. Hi Ottlib....Yes, I've noticed that too, and it's yet another sordid example of the Con media's shameful bias. We need to know what's going on behind the scenes at the party that wants to replace the Liberal government. And trying to pretend that nothing is happening, is practically totalitarian. According to what I hear, many in the media are demoralized by all the well deserved criticism they received this year, and their failure to bring down Justin Trudeau. So in the New Year let's kick it up a notch, and go after our shabby media harder than we ever have before....
