It's hard not to feel just a little bit sorry for Erin O'Toole, after the way he was humiliated by his supporters at the Con convention.
And the way the whole world has been laughing at the Con climate change deniers.
But that would be a mistake, for O'Toole does not appear to have learned his lesson.
Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole brushed off the idea Tuesday that a vote by the party's grassroots on climate change should colour Canadians' opinion of his party.
"I'm the leader, I'm in charge," O'Toole said a press conference as he reiterated his pledge that his party will present a plan to address climate change ahead of the next election.
And is instead leading his broken party in a new and dangerous direction.
By trying to crown himself the king of the Covidiots.
The federal Conservatives are calling for a national plan to reopen the economy, even as fears rise that some provinces are on the cusp of a third wave of the pandemic.
In a motion before the House of Commons today, the Conservatives demand that the federal government develop and present to Parliament "a clear data-driven plan to support safely, gradually and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions."
The motion is non-binding, and it makes no sense.
Not when lockdowns are imposed or lifted by the provinces, not the federal government.
And not when deadly variants are surging.
Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said today the number of daily cases of COVID-19 has increased by 15 per cent over the past week, with an average of 3,600 cases reported during that time.
So it's just the loser O'Toole and his grubby gang playing cheap politics in the middle of a pandemic, which couldn't be more criminally irresponsible.
And can only encourage the Covidiots, who are also surging out of control.

Which doesn't change the fact that being too nice to those Covidiots could not only kill many Canadians, but keep us locked down for many more months.
You know, in my little corner of Canada I can't help feeling like I'm living in a war zone.
With my companion Sébastien risking his life on the front lines every day.
And more helicopter ambulances landing and taking off from their maintenance base on the Toronto island than I have ever seen before...
Carrying their usual cargo of injured and sick people to hospitals, as well as transporting vaccines to remote communities.
And needless to say they are all heroes to me.
While ironically, Erin O'Toole who once flew on helicopters, is now the enemy.
A grubby Con who has done nothing but try to undermine Canada's war on Covid 19.
And who in the name of human decency can't be defeated soon enough...
They don't care about COVID, or climate, or racism, or the "shecovery" or any other life-and-death issues that matter to the lives of Canadians. No, they're back on the WeGhazi high horse again, looking to subject random staffers to an inquisition over Skippy's pet conspiracy theory. Porky O'Toole does nothing but squeal WE WE WE all the way home.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's downright disgusting that the Dipshits, when they're not blaming Trudeau for things that are fully in Dug and Jason's wheelhouse, are along for the ride. Only to then gripe that Trudeau doesn't care about Canadians' lives because he has no intent of overhauling the constitution singlehandedly. Thus giving Ford a free pass for the blood on his hands. SMH. Useless collaborators.
I didn't know Seb was a frontline health worker, Simon. I hope he's doing OK and you're keeping safe too. Ford's malicious incompetence is absolutely criminal. I don't give a good goddamn about some no-name PMO guy's form letter to the Kielburgers. The Cons at all levels are guilty of far worse actual crimes and they deserve to be strung up by the toenails, at least electorally.
By the way, did you see Skippy's maskless "hold my beer" photo with some anti-lockdown goomba? He's got a BABY he's putting at risk! If he's that irresponsible at brunch, why should ANYONE trust him or his party to be responsible governing Canada? The Cons are a disease in and of themselves!
I would hate to have O'Toole for a lawyer since he consistently confuses federal and provincial jurisdictions. A client could find themself with a life sentence for a traffic ticket.
ReplyDeleteI had really hoped that McKay would win the leadership but, if anything, O'Toole is outdoing him.
Feds do not call the shut down it is the covid deniers at the pro level
ReplyDeleteIts a pandemic, what part of grade one did the protesters fail
ReplyDeleteMeet the new boss same as the old boss. The con takeover of media is complete.
ReplyDeleteJournalism veteran Anne Marie Owens, former National Post editor-in-chief, will succeed Irene as editor of the Toronto Star.
PM Trudeau and the Liberals must thank God, Allah and the Great Pumpkin, every day, that they are facing some of the most incompetent Opposition Leaders in the history or our Parliamentary system. None of them know how to be an effective Opposition.
ReplyDeleteThis motion is meaningless and it is likely to be voted down because any hint of the Federal government encroaching on Provincial responsibilities will be voted down by the Bloc. Maybe that is the idea for the Conservatives. They can say that the Liberals "needed the support of separatists" in order to defeat the motion. The problem is that would only cause people who already support the Conservatives to react negatively. No one else would really care. Since the Bloc has been with us for almost 30 years, and the country is still together despite them, they no longer generate the heat they used to among Canadians that did not have hate on for Francophones to begin with.
A better motion would be to have the government commit to working cooperatively with the Provinces on reopening the country and rebuilding the economy. That would have had the advantage of:
- making the Conservatives look reasonable. Who can be against cooperation?
- making it nearly impossible for the Liberals to vote against it
- setting subtle trap for the Liberals because when the time comes the Provinces will make unreasonable demands (because they always do) forcing the Federal government to say no. Then the Opposition Parties could point to the motion and state the government is breaking their word.
Of course they did not do that. Instead they appear to be chasing polling numbers and in the process missed an opportunity.
This motion will succeed or fail but it will not have any lasting impact on the political situation, which is a failure on the part of the Opposition parties.
"I'm the leader, I'm in charge," O'Toole said. No, you're not in charge when the party bucks your leadership on something as important as climate change. When your own party can't deal with reality and won't follow you, why would the Libs take up your suggestions on public health?
ReplyDeleteWhat a tool. Giving oxygen to the covidiots who I hope will get to experience first hand, a tube down their throats, gasping for air, unable to speak and not knowing if they'll live or die. That's the only "freedom" these morons deserve but here we are. They're allowed to gather and protest with seemingly no repercussions. Maybe we should try Russian baseball on them as well or better yet, tase-em, cuff-em and haul-em away for an education on the tried and true method of "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few". It'll never happen but the thought of a covidiot squirming around on the ground after being tased is a warm, pleasant thought.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile back in the land where time forgot, the tool's caucus is grunting and groaning over the tool's admission that climate change is real. Recent cave drawings reveal a party so badly divided that some are suggesting the world is round. What?! The tool may put on a show that he cares about climate change but in reality it's a load of BS. He's clearly desperate by going against the grain of the GOP north party and he will say just about anything to get elected. As such, I expect a shitstorm of Con propaganda to assault our senses leading up to the next election. All the while the tool's dissenters will keep reminding Canadians of why they should never be voted into power.

Hi Jackie...By pandering to the kooks who would end lockdowns even as a third Covid wave surges, the Cons have made it only too clear that they are the the Trump Party North and a clear and present danger to this country. And their attempts to revive the long dead fake WE scandal just makes them look even more disgusting. As for Seb, he shouldn't be anywhere near the front lines, but with hospital threatening to collapse thanks to Bubba Ford's criminal incompetence, he felt he had to help out. I've never been almost paralyzed with fear as I have in the last few months, but at least he has now been vaccinated, and if I ever get my jab we might yet get out alive...
ReplyDeleteHi jrkrideau...It's not just O'Toole who is confusing provincial and federal jurisdictions, they are all doing that, just so they can blame Justin Trudeau for EVERYTHING. I should also point out that Jagmeet Singh is also guilty of the same nonsense. They are playing games with the lives of Canadians, and the whole damn lot of them should be ashamed of themselves....
ReplyDeleteHi Steve...You're right. It should be obvious that the lockdown are being imposed by the provinces, but since most of the Premiers are Cons, O'Toole and his grubby gang would rather blame the feds. It's moronic to the point of being criminal. As for the anti-lockdown crowd they are also morons who don't give a damn about the lives of others. If it was up to them the bodies would be stacked up like cordwood. As for the Toronto Star, I'll give their new National Post leader three months to show where she would take the last centre-left paper before I decide whether or not to cancel my subscription, and encourage others to do the same....
ReplyDeleteHi Ottlib....As I suggested in my post, I think the Cons are now so desperate they don't know what they're doing. They still think that trying to smear the Trudeau Liberals is the way to go, even if they have been doing that forever and it's not getting them anywhere. I think most decent Canadians can see the game O'Toole and his gang are playing, and will make them pay for that in the next election...
ReplyDeleteHi anon@8:54PM....Yes, Captain Outhouse's claim that he is in charge, and that all the climate change deniers in his party can simply be ignored is of course absolute nonsense. He is lying, again, and any Canadian who believes anything he says is frankly delusional....
ReplyDeleteHi JD...O'Toole really is a tool. Encouraging those who would try to undermine the war on Covid-19 is absolutely criminal, and could result in the death of thousands of Canadians. I realize that a lot of people are suffering from the effects of different lockdowns, but we're in a war, and they should stop being such selfish cowards. You'd think they would understand that a lockdown now will spare us from many more lockdowns later. We've all sacrificed to get to where we are now, and we cannot allow all that go to waste. The harder the struggle, the sweeter the victory...
ReplyDeleteHi Simon,
ReplyDelete"but at least he has now been vaccinated, and if I ever get my jab we might yet get out alive..."
That's great that Seb's been vaccinated, as should be, Simon. Was it recently? The front line workers should have been the first to receive the vaccine but I'm not sure that is what took place because I'd bet that Premier Bungles effed that up to. With his cohort, General Incompetent leaving at the worst possible time, when competent leadership is in dire need, it's not looking good. Ford's follies are such that they have become nothing more than a shitty delivery company sending scattershots of doses to health units and letting them do the heavy lifting. And now he's finally sending money to hospitals and parents that he's been sitting on since the provinces won JT's mega-billions pandemic lottery draw last May or June. Better late than never I guess even though it's an obvious attempt to deflect from their failings. He wanted to wait as long as he could, as in closer to Ontario's next election before spending his lottery winnings. Maybe the next time JT doles out the cash to these Con governments, he makes it like food stamps that can only be spent in certain areas, with time limits on them. I can hear Larry, Moe and Curly Joe's heads exploding already.
Hang in there, Simon. As haphazard as the roll-out has been, your turn will eventually come and I'm sure you follow a strict regime to protect yourself and Seb so I'll take comfort in that.
JD
Trudeau is all powerful over provincial jurisdiction when it suits the Cons in painting him as a failure. However when it comes to issues such as climate change they squeal like porkers and waste millions on court challenges and negative advertising in an attempt to assert provincial jurisdiction. As usual the Outhouse and his buddies lost again so the Liberals can continue to tax major carbon polluters and return the money to consumers who might decide to spend it on lower cost greener alternatives. A win win for most people unless they are trapped in a Con inspired time warp. Because the courts always seem to work against them it is understandable that one of their priorities should they obtain a majority is to diminish the power of the courts in favor of Con inspired legislation. Sort of a continuous stream of not withstanding clauses on steroids so everyone can enjoy being trapped in the past.
ReplyDeleteRT
Today was Trudeau's "Obamacare" precedent. A small-c conservative policy that only became godless communism once a hated liberal ran with the ball. Presto even used to kick it around at his semiannual confabs, just like the Affordable Care Act was at one point sponsored by the Koch Heritage Foundation and championed by Mitt Romney as governor of Massachusetts as a gift to private insurers. The message being, how dare you copy our homework that we had no intent of turning in.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans will be screeching about Obama's Islamo-Marxist socialist takeover of healthcare until Devin Nunes' pet cows come home. Similarly, I look forward to watching Skippy throw a snowball on the floor of Parliament like his apparent intellectual mentor in the States, James Inhofe. But just like the perpetual Sisyphean quest to defeat Obamacare, the Wexit swivel-eyed loons now have their own grievance to bitch about until the heat death of the universe: another Trudeau "hurtin' Albertans" with a "U.N. globalist" National Energy Program. Gone are the days when conservatives were actually the least bit interested in science: even Lyin' Brian had the acid rain treaty and Dick Nixon signed the EPA into existence. Now the HarperCons believe that dirty tar is manna from heaven, while the GOP is in hock to a cult leader who believes that poor people deserve to die of cancer, and COVID is a "Chinese flu" that can be cured by using tanning beds and drinking bleach.
An incurable brain disease of stupid infects conservatives on both sides of the border, but hopefully, future generations won't have time for the emissions they exhume as they run steaming-hot bullshit out of both sides of their mouth.
Hi JD.....Thank you for caring. Seb was vaccinated about three weeks ago, and now I can relax, although I never leave home without being double masked and carrying enough sanitizer to deal with all contingencies. Since the pandemic began I’ve been the shopper in chief and I try to be at my local supermarket as early as possible. But taking a subway ride the other day was truly terrifying, people without masks, mentally ill and homeless people acting out, and no TTC security to try to get things under control. I sold my car about five years ago to help the planet, and now I sometimes regret it. But all of this will pass, and I still see the Cons as more of a threat than the pandemic. As you know Doug Ford is an absolute disaster, and I can’t even imagine what things would be like if Erin O’Toole was prime minister. I give thanks that we can all do something to try to make sure that never happens...
ReplyDeleteHi RT....the deliberate attempt to confuse Canadians about what is a federal and what is a provincial responsibility absolutely infuriates me. It’s even more annoying than those Peloton ads. But not as annoying as the way Outhouse O’Toole is trying to fool people over the effects of carbon pricing, by claiming that the poorest Canadians will be those most affected. When in fact the opposite is the case. Trump may be gone, for now, but his foul legacy lives on.Since we can’t count on the media to expose those lies, It’s absolutely critical that we do so ourselves...
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie....I give thanks that despite everything I have managed to stay on the rails, albeit barely. But I find I have almost no tolerance left for all the insanity on both sides of the border. At least in the U.S. the Republicans seem lost without their depraved leader, but as we approach the upcoming election it’s going to be our turn. I’m now predicting a Fall election. If I’ve made another prediction please try to forget it...😉
