The Con Monster Erin O'Toole Shows Who He Really Is. Again.

As you may recall, I never believed Erin O'Toole when after he became Con leader he claimed that he had changed.

Claimed that after pandering to racists, misogynists, homophobes, and other kooks to win the leadership, he wasn't really one of them.

He managed to fool a lot of Canadians but he never fooled me.

Time after time I was proved right, and now I've been proved right again.

That ugly Con really is a monster.

Conservative leader Erin O’Toole recently told a group of young conservatives that two of the key architects of Canada’s residential school program had only meant to “provide education” to Indigenous students.

In the video, O’Toole discusses the controversy over the legacy of Egerton Ryerson, the school’s namesake and one of the architects of the residential of the residential school system, and also shares some tips on how Conservatives can win a debate against Liberals about residential schools.

Can you believe that?

As if the residential school horror is just another weapon to use against the Liberals...

When it was a cultural genocide that resulted in the deaths of thousands of poor native children.

As if this is the way an opposition leader should encourage students to call others:

“Most of the lefty radicals are also the dumbest people at your university,” O’Toole told the campus conservatives.

It's not surprising of course. Not when O'Toole has allowed racists, misogynists, and homophobes like Derek Sloan to get away with murder...

And his absurd claim that he is just trying to fight "cancel culture" makes him seem even more Trump-like than Canadian.

But at least this time even some in the media seem to have finally seen the light:

The hashtag #ResignOToole has been trending on Twitter for over a day.

And as usual Dale Smith does a good job of summing up the sordid story.

This also goes to illustrate how O’Toole has so embraced the shitposting outrage culture that he thinks won him the leadership that he’s lost all moral sense around what he’s actually saying. He’s lost all semblance of truth, and I’ve counted up lies he’s told, but that doesn’t matter anymore. All that matters is stoking anger for the sake of populist gains, and trying to “own the Libs.” It’s poisoning our discourse, and as we can see with this video, sinking into racism for the sake of cheap point-scoring.

For O'Toole and his Cons ARE poisoning this country, and one can only imagine what they might do to it if they ever formed a government.

And the good news?

In just over three months as Con leader Erin O'Toole has shown us who he really is.

A monster if ever there was one.

He's unfit to even think about being prime minister.

And we can't give him the hook soon enough...

UPDATE:

O'Toole crawls backwards, but refuses to apologize.

Erin O’Toole is walking back controversial comments after being accused of using the legacy of Canada’s residential school system to “score meaningless political points.”

But the Conservative leader – who pledged to make reconciliation a priority should he form a government – stopped short of apologizing for suggesting the original intent behind the schools was “to provide education.”

And by so doing only confirms my belief that Mr Jelly is unfit to lead a Canadian political party, let alone aspire to lead this country.

  1. Well said.

So Erin O'Toole has been giving talks to college and university students full of lies and hate. Next up at the Ryerson Conservative group is a "pub night" with Conservative MP Derek Sloan, the extreme right socon and anti vaxxer leader. This visitation was public three hours ago but now the entire Conservatve Group site at Ryerson has gone private.

This is something that Canadians need to start paying attention to. The Conservatives are masters of spin and they know how important culture, beliefs and public discourse is. We need to wake up in the centre and on the left.

Ryerson was both progressive by championing free standardised public education for all and at the same time extremely regressive as architect of the residential school system. With respect to the school name and his statue, formal apologies were offered to the indigenous community through public acknowledgements and a plaque on his statue detailing his transgressions. Perhaps not enough for some and too much for others but a compromise for now.

So what is the Tool doing? Recruiting young Cons by amplifying the division of course, the root of power for all Cons. Create a huge wall between people so that common ground democracy no longer exists. Once the division is well ingrained it becomes all about winning whether its with 30, 40 or 50% of the vote because the others cheat. The Tools blatant attempt to stir up fighting about the past is a perfect ruse. It destroys compromise and commitment to build a more inclusive future.... Yeah division a Con friendly environment!!! Will Canadians swallow the bait?

  3. Hey so I am a student at that university, and I sent an email asking if they should investigate the group in question... let's see what happens...

  4. Hi Unknown... I find it difficult to believe that the Ryerson Cons would actually give the ghastly SoCon bigot Derek Sloan a platform. But then when I was at McGill the Cons were the same kind of freaks. And I agree with you, progressives need to be a whole lot more aggressive. The Cons are dangerous and too many progressives seem to me to be sleepwalking to disaster...

The tool calling the left dumb is pretty rich when he is too stupid to realize that the video just may see the light of day. Same with his stupid comments but not in the sense of ignorant stupid, he knew what he was saying was wrong and was incredibly stupid for saying it for purely self serving purposes.
So, thank you for your flip flopping lesson in history Mr. O'Stool, as in sample. While you spend the holidays trying to remove your foot from your big, fat mouth, I was as of late, hoping that the real, unvarnished, repugnant tool would stand up some day for all to see and this video more than delivers.

  6. Hi RT....I never get involved in arguments over statues and other relics from the past. I see them as a good teaching opportunity, but I'd rather focus on the present. O'Toole is using historical debates to create wedge issues and distract from his fascist policies, and judging from the comments in newspapers like the Globe there are a lot of anti-native bigots in this country. So while we need to attack O'Toole's grotesque racism, we also need to tread carefully....

  7. Hi Jsb....good for you. It's important for progressive students not to let the Cons get away with it. Please let me know what happens...

  8. Hi JD....I also thought that O'Toole calling others dumb was outrageous, considering that he is clearly not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. I will have to search my virtual wardrobe and find him a good clown costume. It's hard to believe that he has only been Con leader for just over three months, because he is already as irritating as Scheer was, and even the sound of his voice is almost unbearably irritating. But at least I'm doing what I can to attack him, for when you look at the other bloggers at Progressive Bloggers you'd never know there was a problem...

  9. Iknow its an internet poll, but this mornings news looks bad for Error oldtool. Worse is probably coming with the next poll as this weeks activity sinks in.

Lies about Canada being at the back of the line were told as if this was some sort of childish game. Being such an American wannabe, the fact that Canada is on the same schedule as the US must have hurt the poor boys self image. He will be punished for the porkies.

Then the old fool struggled up on his hind trotters to bleat that residential schools were just like the ritzy private schools to which Sheer-nonsense banishes the sheerings. He will be punished for that too.

  10. So Charlie the Tuna tried to run interference for him by dredging up the fake WeGhazi nonsense while making some mealy-mouthed concern troll noises about O'Foole's "race baiting." Fortunately it fell like a dud, but the kind of populist lightning in a bottle that both extremes are trying to capture is worrisome. Not to mention that they're both chasing after the youth vote with smokescreens and fist-charging rage. For all the crowing that "Trudeau Junior" was "just not ready" it's clear that the teacher is the only adult in the room.

O'Foole is appealing to people's absolute worst instincts over the raw issue of Indigenous reconciliation, and using it to flirt with fascism the way Trump riled up animosity over Black Lives Matter. Meanwhile Singh and his orange clown crew continue to attack the wrong enemy and rile up their own knee-jerk mob in hopes of accelerating polarization. The old horseshoe-politics-of-the-apocalypse dynamic that didn't turn out well in the 1930s any better than it did in 2016.

Trudeau and his Liberals haven't been perfect, but who really has? They have been and continue to be far better than the alternatives in what has clearly been an unprecedented situation. As Trudeau said at his most recent presser, what was destroyed over hundreds of years can't be fixed in five. This government has arguably placed the most focus on the Indigenous file than any other in Canada's history. O'Foole's boss Harper said it wasn't on his radar. Obviously for some it won't be enough, but for O'Foole to exploit their suffering just to score partisan dunks on the Trudeau name is utterly repugnant.

Hopefully the reaction to O'Foole's vile bigotry and the latest polls showing that Singh merely appears to be riding an inflated dead-cat bounce on Horgan's coattails in B.C., are a harbinger for Canadians preferring a steady hand and thoughtful policies for a broad swath of the population, over juvenile shitposters and myopic regionalists at the helm. As for Maple Mussolini, he is unfit to govern so much as a lemonade stand, let alone a student council and certainly not a country. Maybe his next gig should be as a comments moderator on Gab or Parler.

"O'Toole crawls backwards, but refuses to apologize."
Crawls is an apt description, Simon. Just like his hero Trump, no apology. Just a meaningless statement for those who weren't supposed to hear his repugnant views directed at young Cons to nurture them into becoming nasty little Trumpanzees. Further proof that O'Stool-sample has become as Chris Cuomo calls a Retrumplican? Calling us dumb, radical leftys. What an ugly example he is setting. You suggested a clown outfit for the tool, Simon, but may I suggest a Trumpy hairdo for the Trumpy wannabe?

Ah but he is no worse than corrupt, smarmy, truculent NDP basher former Harper's lapdog Kenney who posits as Alberta savior and who under pressure is showing his utter weakness facing an enemy he can't beat.

  15. Hi Rumleyfips... Anyone, and I mean anyone, playing political games during a brutal epidemic would anger me. But the kind of cheap Republican-style games Erin O'Toole is playing absolutely disgust me. People are suffering and dying and you're saying WHAT? I'm hoping it will help Canadians see the real O'Toole, because we can't crush that Trump cult soon enough...

  16. Hi Jackie.... Most Canadians are pleased with the way Justin Trudeau is steering us through this hideous pandemic, and will hopefully not even think of electing a Con clown like Erin O'Toole. He could still become prime minister if his hapless stooge Jagmeet Singh manages to divide the centre-left vote. But I'm pretty sure that most Canadians will eventually recognize that when it comes to Singh there is no there, there. So when the next election arrives, Trudeau will be the only choice. Also, both the Con Media have hurt themselves badly, even if they can't or won't recognize it, and that's going to make everything a whole lot easier. Screw the pandemic, don't throw away your party hat, the best is yet to come...

  17. Hi anon@4:01PM.... O'Toole likes to portray himself as a working class person, but that chubby bourgeois hog has been spoiled all his life. His father was an auto plant manager and member of the Ontario legislature, and he was a corporate lawyer before he ran for office. So it's just another example of O'Toole's hypocrisy. Luckily he may be leading his Trumpy rubes by the nose, but he is leading them absolutely nowhere...

  18. Hi JD....Maybe I should have written crawling backwards and sideways like a crab 🦀 because O’Toole really is a fascist freak. I used to think he was just dumb after I heard that while at RMC he was telling everyone he was going to be prime minister. But now I think he’s both mediocre and evil. Our only consolation is that judging from the polls O’Toole is still going nowhere....
