It's hard to believe, and even harder to accept, how much things have changed since COVID-19 started killing Canadians.
Back in that fatal Spring we were united. We followed doctor's orders, we applauded the medical workers risking their lives, we loudly and proudly proclaimed that we were all in this together.
And for a while we were, and in most parts of Canada, we did manage to at least temporarily beat down the curve.
But pandemic fatigue took its toll, all that solidarity went down like the Hindenburg, and now I'm living in a Red Zone.
Covid-19 is surging again all over the place, and threatening to overwhelm our hospitals.
As the second wave of coronavirus continues to surge across much of Canada, patients are starting to fill up hospital beds and overwhelm a healthcare system already under strain.
And doctors warn that if the trend continues, healthcare workers will soon have to face a grim decision in the intensive care unit (ICU) — triaging who lives and who dies.
Which can only lead to the worse human catastrophe in Canada since the 1918 flu pandemic, with more dead people than anybody can count, and tens of thousands of others scarred for life. And while I blame those who just don't get the message.
And the Covidiots who deliberately choose to ignore it...
Who need to be fined heavily and/or jailed until the emergency is over.
I mostly blame these losers who are Covid's best friends...
The Con premiers who have sown confusion with their disjointed policies, and like Doug Ford have put profits before people...
And worse, have rejected any suggestion that would allow the federal government to play a greater role in coordinating our response...
So we can't act like a real country, and are helpless in the eye of the storm...
I realize that lockdowns can cause terrible hardship, but the federal government has done more than most to cushion the blow.
Federal spending on financial supports during the height of the global pandemic in Canada greatly outpaced that of other developed countries, enough to actually raise household incomes at a time when the economy was in free fall.
And if we can't bring down the numbers so we can test, trace, and isolate, the nightmare will go on and on, and it will be a hellish winter.
And the good news?
At least two vaccines will soon be available, and the Trudeau government is making sure there will be enough for everybody...
And we can give give thanks for that, as well as give thanks that Erin O'Toole and his filthy Cons aren't running the country.
For when they think we aren't listening, they reveal their inner beasts, and show that they can't feel the pain of others.
Luckily most Canadians seem to recognize that...
For while the Cons are going nowhere, the Liberals are surging.
So in a terrible time we have the government we need...
And now it's up to us all.
Our frontline medical workers are still the heroes they always were, but many are terribly exhausted, they can't do it all by themselves.
And as I know all too well, despite our best efforts, life is so fragile...
The reformatories are showing themselves to be trumpaloonies as well. Just as Donnie ( the biggest loser ) let thousands die to bolster his political plans the con premiers and the old tool prefer unnecessary deaths as a political ploy to hurt the Liberals. Such nice guys.
ReplyDeleteSimon, are you a healthcare worker?
ReplyDeleteSo the tool thinks that the CERB is oversubscribed. That's Con speak for too generous to people who would seldom vote Con such as people of color, LGBTQ's, the impoverished, etc. Then these souless Con pricks go on to demonize them as lazy abusers of the system. Ummm no Mr. Tool. You and your overly compensated, taxpayer funded Con caucus of Trumplings are the ones who are too lazy or dumb to be of any use during this pandemic. Demonize, criticize and chasticize. That's all you do. If you have nothing positive to offer then I ask that you please STFU.
ReplyDeleteAs for those Covidiots, stupid is as stupid does. Premier Doug Cuddles doesn't have the balls to effectively deal with them so we must limit our outings and hunker down in our bubbles until the vaccines are available. There is light at the end of the tunnel and next spring will most certainly be better than the last one.

Conservatism is a brain-worm virus. I don't think there's any remedy for that besides quarantine in a rubber room.
ReplyDeleteTrudeau's speech today outside Rideau Cottage was one of his best. Raw, unscripted, not holding anything back. He was asked about the Great Reset tinfoil crap and rightfully blamed Cons for undermining the pandemic response with fear-based conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, all the premiers are doing is bluffing with bullshit like Ford does, or ranting and raving about muh freedums like Kenney. Or creating incendiary distractions about language and head scarves like Legault. I get angry just thinking about how many Muslim doctors that bigoted asshole has chased away.
I think we can say the source of the conservative virus has been clearly identified: It's a metastasizing bacterial organism that spreads through bullshit. Sadly even the NDP have caught the disease and need a stint in rehab, stat. As for what remains of the pandemic, this holiday season will certainly be one to remember even as it's one we'd all like to forget. The one thing to look forward to is the hope of a vaccine coming next spring, followed by an election that puts these saboteurs back in the freezer where they belong.
To borrow from an old yuletide song, "until then we'll fuddle-duddle through somehow."
O'Toole
ReplyDelete“I don’t want to compete against the United States, the worst student in the class. We should be competing against the best student in the class, Taiwan, other countries, and I haven’t seen that approach from the Trudeau government.”
Clearly shows the man is totally ignorant, lying, but probable both.
WHO was notified of a suspicious set of case in Wuhan Jan 01. Taiwan was screening incoming flights from Wuhan within 24 hours and proceeded aggressively from there.
Why wasn't O'Toole demanding proactive measures at least by Jan 15?
We, and most other countries missed the boat and we are never going to catch up.

ReplyDelete“Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives...
I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative.

Hi rumleyfips....Yes, the Cons have done nothing to help the fight against Covid-19. All they have done is play cheap politics even as more and more Canadians got sick and died. The battle against that deadly virus should be non partisan, but the Cons are so American all they can do is attack Justin Trudeau, who it must be noted never attacks them. It's ugly and pathetic, but it won't do the Cons any good....
ReplyDeleteHi anon@5:59 AM... No I am not a health worker, but I live with one. So I know all about the stress, frustration, exhaustion, fear and pain that so many of them are feeling. And I am determined to try to help get their story out for I can't help feeling that their heroic struggle is being taken for granted by too many Canadians...
ReplyDeleteHi JD...I shudder to think what it would have been like it the Cons were governing Canada during the pandemic. They lack any kind of empathy and are just heartless ideologues. The pandemic should be a test of our Canadian values and the Cons are failing miserably. And to make matters worse both O’Toole and Ford have so many covidiots in their parties they don’t dare crackdown on them as they should. But I’m confident that Canadians will understand who is on their side and who isn’t, and the Cons will pay the price in the next election....
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie....How nice to hear from you again. I hope you are well and staying safe, and have been able to try to ignore the Trump baby as much as possible. There are some hard days ahead for all of us, but hopefully with Biden running the U.S. and vaccines on their way, 2021 will be better than 2021. Like you I was really impressed by Justin Trudeau’s address to the nation. His polls have been looking good and hopefully will soon look even better, if the NDP continues to be so utterly useless. So hopefully we will fuddle duddle through to a better time...
ReplyDeleteHi jrkrideau.....O’Toole seems to be suffering from such a bad case of China on the brain that one has to wonder whether Taiwan is subsidizing the Cons. And as for blaming the Liberals for what happened in January that’s such a waste of time. All political parties should concentrate on getting Canadians to do what is needed to suppress the pandemic or we’ll all go down together....
