How the Cons and the NDP Are Trying To Destroy Team Canada

It couldn't be a worse combination. The coronavirus is surging, and may kill even more Canadians than it did during its first deadly wave.

Even as pandemic fatigue sets in, and many people are too tired, or too numb, or too depressed to fight it.

And if our leaders can't overcome that wave of fatigue, the virus could explode out of control, and slaughter old and vulnerable Canadians from one end of the country to the other.

So the last thing we need is Michelle Rempel Garner and her ghastly Cons trying to bring down Team Canada, by turning the health committee into a fascist circus.

Even if that means jeopardizing a life saving vaccine.

As well as disregarding the views of infectious disease specialists, and insulting some of Canada's most distinguished doctors.

Because that is who she is, a crass vulgarian who acts more like an American than a Canadian.

And her motion, as even Paul Wells points out, is an absolute farce.

It calls for  the Health Committee to study every imaginable aspect of the COVID response, “including, but not limited to,” rapid testing; vaccine development and distribution; federal public health guidelines “and the data being used to inform them;” long-term care; the GPHIN early-warning system; protocols for travellers; “the adequacy of health transfer payments to the provinces;” emergency stockpiles, the COVID Alert smartphone app, contact tracing, and more and more. It’s a breathtaking list but it’s not even exhaustive: the “including, but not limited to” wording means that anything else that pops into any member’s mind or inbox could be added at any time.

How shall this committee undertake its work? By calling on six government offices to provide “all memoranda, emails, documents, notes and other records” on “plans, preparations, approvals and purchasing of COVID-19 testing products including tests, reagents, swabs, laboratory equipment and other material.” That’s just one of seven wide-scale fishing expeditions listed in the motion. All requiring massive deployment of government resources. All with potentially zero utility even to the motion’s stated purpose, because if this committee sat until Doomsday it would not be able to examine or discuss the thousandth part of the haystack this motion would order up.

And as for Rempel Garner's offer to give the government a whole TWO weeks more to gather all that information...

This gesture of farcical magnanimity is best understood as a kind of performance art. It’s like suggesting that somebody shove a Buick up his nose—but expecting to be congratulated for giving him an extra two weeks to do it.

It only makes even clearer what a dirty game the Cons and their NDP and Bloc stooges are playing, trying to paralyze the government for pure partisan reasons.

Trying to "get" Justin Trudeau even if it kneecaps Canada's pandemic response.

While desperately trying to avoid an election...

As only cowardly Cons and chicken Dippers could.

As for Trudeau, he has been doing his best to fight pandemic fatigue, even reaching out to children to reassure them the nightmare will end some day.

But the reaction of the loser leader of the NDP tells you he's wasting his time.

Can you believe that? Is Jagmeet Singh tone deaf or what?

He can't get his facts right. He can't differentiate between federal and provincial jurisdictions. He lies all the time. And he can't stop trying to smear Trudeau day after day like Andrew Scheer once did.

Except he's doing it in the middle of a pandemic.

And the good news?

Singh is on the Highway to Nowhere...

And with those numbers and these...

It won't be long before Trudeau finds a good excuse to call an election.

And O'Toole, and his shabby stooges will be hoisted on their own petard...

  1. I mean, I hope he does take the initiative and whistle on down to Rideau Hall, but like I said the signals coming from LPC HQ aren't really clear. If he doesn't, I hope the Liberals can bide some time counting down to Christmas by stonewalling the health committee like they have the others, in advance of a (very early) spring election. Oh, and to add additional drama, the privy council clerk has offered to testify on the WeGhazi documents, but Pigeon Pete won't let him and so now the finance committee is again as constipated as he is.

I do find it interesting though, that Moudakis seems to think the pandemic probe will backfire on O'Toole like Wiley Coyote. Dale Smith has a much more ominous take: the abuse of committees for partisan witch hunts stands to jeopardize the integrity of Canadian democracy itself. And lo and behold it all started with Harper's book of dirty tricks.

Now, John Ivison who I mentioned in an earlier comment here, seems to be an outlier thus far among "pundits" in his read of where the Liberals stand on an election sooner rather than later. Wells, Chantal Hebert, Campbell Clark at the G&M and (with vague caveats) Susan Delacourt all seem to believe that this government is on borrowed time because the trust between the parties is gone. I doubt there's really anything to be parsed from those by-elections either because of several unique circumstances that aren't likely to be reproduced in a general election. Notice no one is even talking about them a day later. It would seem to make sense that this minority clusterfuck is on life support, but since the NDP won't bite because they're broke and their polls are in the ditch, the question is will Trudeau listen to the "hawks" telling him that fortune favours the bold and he'll have to make a move on his own?

I hope he does. Trudeau needs to shut this circus down before it puts the health of Canadians and the stability of parliamentary institutions in peril. Real damn shame that there's no vaccine nor cure for the "Trudeau derangement syndrome" that afflicts the opposition and hopeless media.

Guess we should be somewhat thankful that it took the Cons six months to politicize Covid. They could have copied their American cousins in February or March by going down the denial and freedom path resulting in matching infection and death rates. At this stage their preferred option is to destroy confidence in the government by promoting the idea that they failed to protect people because of general incompetence with a side dish of corruption. This message combined with Covid fatigue will result in more chaos and unnecessary death. Thankfully there are buffers such as the fact that front line response is provincial and the premiers are not into mud slinging so people will be less likely to loose confidence and go rogue.
The Con game plan is obvious and much of it could be front run through public communications outlining progress on key issues, the size of the Covid team from front line, medical professionals, researchers, pharma, manufacturers, purchasing staff, various levels of government, etc. The Cons will try and simplify this complex web of interactions into a simplistic visual of a self absorbed Trudeau playing with a couple of elite puppets while Canada burns. A little preventative promotion would blunt the attack and save lives.
Its not surprising the Cons don't care about the collateral damage but the NDP are a disappointment. The Liberals need go into low key election mode starting with inclusive Team Canada Covid response messaging. A spring election is preferred depending on the state of the pandemic at that time and how far the Cons are willing push their propaganda in the interim.

Rempel is one stunned (insert British slang here:_ _ _ _). I think she's fallen off her horse and landed on her head one too many times. Given the laughable demands she has set forth I think I have a great idea for the Libs to give this the respect it deserves. Ignore it. Don't give them anything. Don't show up to committees and when they clutch their pearls and yip and yap in the HoC, give answers that don't answer anything. What are they going to do? Call the police? Force an election? Impeach Justin(don't tell Michelle we don't do that up here)? Go ahead, make our day. I think a little GOP style medicine is what's needed to shut down these useless, self-serving assholes who, during a pandemic, have done nothing to help alleviate it. It would most certainly drive them nuts and that alone would be a joy to behold.
Most notable is that when someone like Paul Wells finally calls out the Con nonsense, it can only lead to more of them doing the same. It's time to treat the Cons as they treat the Libs as it will exemplify that these petulant children like to dish it out but most certainly cant take it.

  4. The old tool loves Trump but does not seem to be able to digest the message . The nastier Trump gets , the more support Biden gets . The polls you show indicate the same result for the reformatories.

I know it's almost Halloween , but Michele and peckerhead's witch-hunt is not going over well.

Pierre peckerhead ended up with exploding cigar all over his face when Trudeau told him that the commissioner approved Sophie's appearances. The reformatories could further embarrass themselves in committee. The officials who are forced to find, read and copy these documents will be more familiar with the contents than the regressive who have neither the resources , the time nor the wit to understand their meaning.

  6. Hey Simon et al, speaking of documents and manufactured "scandals"

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ethics-commissioner-morneau-we-charity-trips-1.5781995

Ruined a man's career, destroyed a charity, killed an aid program and distracted the government from a pandemic, and for what? I suspect all that Dion will come back with is a slap on the wrist for lack of recusal. Which was already apologized for ad nauseam. But that hasn't stopped the Dipper/Con/Bloc axis of evil from digging into their obsession, even if it means sabotaging the budget. Chuckles is still planning to introduce a new motion at ETHI next week to "skin the cat" even though Dion looks to be wrapping things up.

Wells is absolutely right: this parliament is broken. Even if the government does ride this out until the new year, I can't see it lasting for very much longer. The opposition have lost the plot.

  7. Hi Jackie....They may try to talk tough but the Con media has never looked weaker. John Ivison for example was so upset by something I said about him that he blocked me on Twitter. As for the others they are struggling as they realize the WE scandal is over, and they got nothing. As for an election call, I believe that the deranged Rempel will give Trudeau the perfect excuse sooner rather than later. What happens in the U.S. will also influence that decision. So I’m feeling more confident than I have been for a while. The O’Toole bump is looking more like a bump on the head, and I look forward to seeing him become more desperate by the day...

  8. Hi RT....As I said in my post, the idea that the Cons Are trying to undermine confidence in Team Canada for crass political purposes is the worst thing the Cons have ever done. Pandemic fatigue is bad enough, but trying to encourage people it is criminal. We are in for what is almost sure to be a brutal winter and those filthy Cons couldn’t give a damn. People like Rempel really are the scum of the world, and they must be held accountable once this nightmare is over. I realize that a lot of Canadians have been numbed by all that has happened, but my anger has never been greater. And I agree, the Liberals need to prepare the ground for an election, so both they and the Canadian people are ready to go when the time comes...

  9. Hi JD...I think there is a lot of merit to your suggestion. The Liberals should hand over some documents, but make it clear how much those fascist fishing expeditions are bogging down the civil service, and drag their feet as much as possible. It’s not hard to get Rempel angry, and the angrier she gets, the more Canadians will understand her dirty game, and the more the Cons will pay for their inexcusable behaviour. I’m not a fan of Paul Wells, but I think he has done a pretty good job of explaining how insane the whole Con game is, particularly in the middle of a pandemic. I admit the nightmare and the desperate struggle in our hospitals has worn me down, but my hatred for what the Cons are doing will power me to fight them even harder than ever...

  10. Hi rumleyfips...O’Toole is such a tool of the Canada Proud people who ran his campaign I don’t think he realizes where they are taking him. And doesn’t even understand that imitating Trump will take him to a very bad place. If Trump is defeated on Tuesday it will be interesting to see if he changes his campaign, but it will probably be too late to do him much good...
