The Day Andrew Scheer Was Exposed As A Religious Bigot

As you know, I have been trying for months to get the MSM to write about the relationship between Andrew Scheer and the former Alliance MP Larry Spencer, a man so homophobic he wanted to jail gay people.

I wrote one post after the other, I tweeted again and again. But nobody believed me or gave me the time of day.

I was getting ready to head out to Saskatchewan to try to track down Spencer, if he was still alive.

When it finally happened.

HuffPost Canada ran the story and Scheer was exposed as a bigot by Spencer himself.

After former Saskatchewan MP Larry Spencer was turfed from the Canadian Alliance in 2003 for making inflammatory comments about homosexuality, a young Andrew Scheer stayed on to work in his office.

Spencer had told a Vancouver Sun reporter he believed homosexuality was a conspiracy and that he would support a bill to criminalize it.

“I took it to be that he was in agreement with what I had to say,” Spencer told HuffPost Canada before clarifying, “I know he was in agreement with what we were trying to say.”

As you can imagine the story hit Con headquarters with the force of a nuclear bomb. I've never seen them in such a panic. They know a campaign killer when they see one.

And one Con after the other came barrelling out to try to deny the story.

On Tuesday night, hours after this story was first published and after repeated requests for comment since Sept. 3, the Conservative Party’s director of communications, Brock Harrison, emailed a statement saying: “Mr. Scheer disagreed with Mr. Spencer’s comments then. He still disagrees with him now.”

And demand that it be retracted.

Even though Scheer would not speak for himself, and as if this story came out of the  blue.

And Scheer who has compared LGBT Canadians to dogs, didn't know long before that story broke that he was working for a man who believed that homosexuality was a conspiracy.

The conspiracy included the seduction and recruitment of young boys in playgrounds and locker rooms and the deliberate infiltration of North America's judiciary, schools, the religious community, and the entertainment industry.

And every time Scheer is asked about why he won't apologize for calling gays dogs he can't bring himself to do that, and like he did only yesterday, sounds as guilty as hell.

As only a man who has something to hide could.

The Cons are trying to discredit the reporter who wrote the story, but I think Zi-Ann-Lum is a hero for breaking a story our shabby Con media should have covered long ago.

And now we wait to see whether they will bombard Scheer with questions, like they bombarded Justin Trudeau for the "crime" of dressing up as Aladdin. Day after day after day after day.

But at least for the time being I am finally satisfied.

Andrew Scheer has been shown to be a ghastly religious bigot, as I always said he was from the day he became Con leader.

A man who in the name of human decency must never be allowed to become prime minister...

A man who cannot be trusted

And one who if there was any justice, should be forced to resign tomorrow...

  1. Good for you, Simon. I'm glad HuffPost picked it up and I hope they finally do due diligence on this homophobic asshole too. I didn't watch that Global interview with Trudeau and probably won't but from the blurb, he comes across as sympathetic saying that he was shocked out of his old ways by his father's death. Scheer has never changed his perspective on LGBT people and it shows. He's unrepentant trash whereas Trudeau is someone who had some strange habits as a young man that he took awhile to abandon but has done far more in his life to make amends to anyone he might have offended. He's contrite. He's empathetic. He never meant anyone malicious harm. That can't be said for Scheer and I hope more people start seeing him as the arrogant bigot he really is.

    1. Hi Jackie....Thank you, I was so happy to see a big media outfit pick up the Spencer story. Unfortunately the Con media ignored the story and didn't see fit to ask Scheer a single question about it. But that's OK, I'm not giving up. Next...the video!!!

Well done Simon! Unfortunately the story will not gain the traction it deserves as 50% of our news media has a stated Con bias but at the same time it will sink into the collective subconscious further framing Scheer as someone who is totally untrustworthy. Most politicians are viewed as somewhat to mostly untrustworthy but Scheer and his provincial cohorts are in a class all of their own. A steady drip of information that peeks behind Scheers false facade is just as effective (more?) as the big splash Con media anti Trudeau campaign.

    1. Hi RT....thank you, I was disappointed, but I think you're right. Our ugly Con media can ignore the story, but I got a pretty good reaction on Twitter, and I think it will sink into the collective subconscious and convince even more Canadians that Scheer can't be trusted...

Good for you Simon, it must be very satisfying to see the MSM pick up a story you refused to give up on. Hopefully others will do the same.

    1. Hi anon...Thank you. It was very satisfying to see a member of the MSM run the story, and although I am disappointed that so far others have ignored it, I'm not giving up.

Pretty sure he didn't compare gays to dogs. He was reciting a famous quote by the great Abraham Lincoln.

    1. That's a pretty shitty misreading of Lincoln on Scheer's part if so, and a lame defense that doesn't excuse what he said at all. Also, that's not the quote Simon is referring to. The item in question is Larry Spencer's vile and disgusting statements about LGBT people that Spencer himself said Scheer agrees with. If it wasn't true his campaign wouldn't have to do damage control and deny, deny, deny. Trudeau owned up to his unusual habit and apologized. Scheer hides behind his mouthpieces because if people actually knew how much he hated LGBT people his support would crater. Trudeau does town halls in enemy territory -- he went to the Prairies and Alberta where people want to kill him. Talk to me when Scheer takes tough questions in Toronto's gay village. So far he's only showed up at pre-approved events whose attendees were invited through the Rebel mailing list. And now he's not doing any gatherings at all. I'd compare conservatives to chickens, but that's an insult to chickens.

"Pretty sure he didn't compare gays to dogs."

Umm... yes he did. For Scheer to use a quote from the man who abolished slavery and compare it to gay unions is absurd. He was more interested in its comparison to dogs as a way to inflame his fellow homophobes as they wallow in their cauldron of hate.

    3. Hi anon@1:11 PM....First just let me say that Abraham Lincoln is one of my greatest heroes, and that Andrew Scheer is no Lincoln. But secondly, all you have to look at the expression on his face during that ugly video and you can see that using the word dog is all about hate. Gay people know haters better than most, and that was hate...

    Found it.

How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn't make it a leg.

    1. Way to deflect, Brock. Now do Spencer.

    2. Maybe it is a quote from Abraham Lincoln. The problem is that Sheer-stupidity misused the quote to malign gay people. Context matters. You are wrong, Sheer-ignorance is wrong and Simon is right.

Let me repeat again(better hide the cats, Brawnfire).
How many mouths would Scheer have if you counted his ass as a mouth? The answer is one. Just because Scheer speaks through his ass it does not make his ass a mouth.

    4. Hi rumleyfips...Thank you, and as usual you're right, context is everything. Scheer was playing to the ugly religious hate mongers of the time, somehow managed to insult LGBT people and Abraham Lincoln....

    5. Hi JD....I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. But yes, Scheer is the worst political asshole I've ever known. And the day he is defeated will be a great day indeed....

Kind of like "saying gay marriage is marriage doesn't make it marriage". Why was Scheer against gay marriage but didn't speak in favour of Biblical marriage, you know, polygamy?

    1. Hi anon....Scheer's comments about gay marriage which I've always considered a matter of human equality are indeed disgusting, and as you point out hypocritical when many of those hairy Hebrews wandering around in the desert had as many wives as goats. But working for a bigot who wanted gays to be jailed, and sharing his views, borders on the genocidal and should never be accepted in a country like Canada...

Anyone who has read Roy Scranton, or Ece TemelKuran is well aware of how the hard right movement is a world wide phenonemon. Climate change deniers (there is no such thing as climate don’t you know!), war mongering (Trump’s constant insisting that nations spend more on arms – more on death), deeply religious extremists (Christians who make the people who perpetrated the Inquisition look like angels) anti-science, anti women, anti gay, anti anyone who threatens their God given right to be proudly ignorant, loud, obnoxious, liars, and murderers. Mass murderers who will do nothing to mitigate climate disasters while people die, en mass. Conservatives who also are in support of guns, criminalizing the poor (Trump wants to criminalize homelessness), criminalizing people who work in the public sector (Kenney has removed the word public from schools ergo the word public is now illegal to use) and all public employees will be vilified, seen as parasites and anti business thereby against the real people (conservatives). Moreover, Kenney is criminalizing environmentalists and even has a snitch line so Albertans can report their family, friends and neighbours as being enemies of the state – which is exactly what Hitler did! Conservatives strongly support people who idolize the policies of the Third Reich when millions were murdered because they were different in various ways. Undoubtedly an insignificant nonevent according to the many Nazis who support conservatives – We have not seen anything yet! To the many billions who will perish under conservative authoritarian rule. Goebbels is laughing from his grave as the hard right have complete control over the media and the all important message that utter madness is normal. Conservatives are completely shameless and no words can make them reflect upon what they are doing to destroy democracies worldwide. The USA is a polarized nation, and so too are nations that have elected or will elect hard right people who are wilfully “leading” the masses to their final demise.

    1. HI anon...Thank you for that excellent summation of the monstrous challenge we face. I wish more people understood the nature of the fascist beast, and it's many tentacles. But those who do must redouble their efforts to expose that beast before it kills us all...

For the Reformacons and their support base its a twisted symbiotic relationship; the more you hurt me the more I love you. I recently viewed a early 70's documentary which included the anti Vietnam war movement. A lady interviewed had lost two sons, one in the war and another younger one due to suicide as the result. Her statement to a protester asking her to join the movement was ' I support your freedom to protest but knock on my door again and you will be met with a gun'. Cons take away and then force people to double down on their support rather than admit they were wrong. For example when it comes to climate change the people with monetary resources can move to a better zone and actually profit from the misery yet many of those that are in a do or die situation will support the Cons and actually double down in their support when reality sets in. There are countless examples of this phenomenon but another good one is financially stricken Alberta in comparison to the $0.5 million per person that Norway has accumulated since they thought the Alberta Heritage Fund started in the 80's was a good idea. The only real difference is that Alberta has enjoyed a non stop parade of Con governments. Learning from mistakes is progressive, but the more you hurt me the more I love you really seems to be in vogue!

    1. Weak Andy hates Trudeau père et fils but is promoting his own ripoff version of the National Energy Program. Another Trump wannabe looking to take credit for everything Obama did, or tried to do despite irrational conservative intransigence. I guess the western version of the Cons' official campaign slogan is "Let the Kenyan Muslim drama teacher freeze in the dark."

    2. Hi RT...Yes, one of the things that characterizes the Cons is their refusal to admit that they could ever be wrong. My guess is that stems at least in part from the notion of Biblical infallibility. If you check out Boris Johnson's performance these days, you can see a fascist trying to emerge from his pod like one of those creatures in the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers. They are now coming at us from every direction, and makes it even more vital that we do our part to stop them in October...

Kudos to you, Simon. Scheer staying on to work for him after Larry the homophobe was ousted speaks volumes of his contempt he had for gay people then and still harbors to this day. People need to know what a cowardly, despicable person Scheer is and your efforts will surely help open many more eyes to this.

    1. Hi JD...Thank you, I was quite proud of myself yesterday, and as one of my friends remarked, my head seemed somewhat swollen.. But I came down to earth with a bump when I realized that nobody else had picked up the story. But as I've said, I'm not giving up, and I will use it against the Cons all the way to the election...

  10. OT but simply on a polling front, you might as well junk Grenier's aggregator if you're looking for even remotely accurate projections. He pissed off another pollster by putting his foot in his mouth over paywalled trackers. This time he accused Quito Maggi of Mainstreet of violating the Elections Act for some reason, so Quito demanded that Grenier no longer include Mainstreet polling in his aggregator. Which means the projections are going to be incomplete without Mainstreet polling, and only partial Nanos toplines that don't tell the whole story about the regional numbers. Forget blackface, CBC is going to have more egg on its face than an ostrich omelet when the numbers come in and are way off because Grenier keeps making stupid comments on his social media account. Like I've said before I don't see the poll tracker feature surviving to the next election. Twitter has really brought out the worst in everyone. What kind of overgrown high school stats nerds get into virtual fisticuffs over math?
