Andrew Scheer has managed to conceal what he really thinks about our medicare system, like he has managed to conceal so many other things.
His religious fanaticism, his grotesque misogyny, his vicious anti-gay views.
But he has been overheard in private excitedly discussing what he would like to do to our healthcare system i.e. privatize it beyond recognition.
So this couldn't be more hypocritical, or more shameless.
I know how important stable federal funding is to ensure quality public health care and social programs.— Andrew Scheer (@AndrewScheer) August 1, 2019
That’s why today I sent a letter to every Premier guaranteeing that, as Prime Minister, I will maintain and increase the Canada Health Transfer and the Canada Social Transfer. pic.twitter.com/qbZXJ8hFrw
Can you believe it?
A letter to the Premiers, and a Scheer "Guarantee" to try to make us believe that the Con who would destroy it, is actually medicare's best friend.
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is putting Canada's money where his mouth is, promising to increase health and social transfer payments by at least three per cent every year should he become prime minister.
In a letter to provincial and territorial premiers released Thursday, Scheer said he wants to spell out his commitment in writing because he anticipates his opponents will misrepresent his position on health care funding once next month's federal election campaign gets underway.
When in fact it is just another Con scam.
Scheer was, is, and will always be a mortal enemy of medicare. And all he's trying to do is shield himself from the deadly vote killing effects of his friend Doug Ford.
Asked whether Scheer's commitment was aimed at neutralizing the comparison with Ford, spokesman Simon Jefferies would only say that health is an issue that stretches across all provinces and territories.
"We know that the Trudeau Liberals are going to try and fearmonger and misrepresent our position, so we thought it was important to put our commitment down in writing to all premiers," Jefferies said.
Scheer's friend Dougie, who is already dismembering Ontario's medicare system like only a Con beast could.
“Ford promised no job losses, but it’s becoming clearer by the day that he never had a real plan. He’s running a government by chaos and the people of Ontario are paying the price. Ford won based on lofty promises to reign in the deficit without any consequence for frontline jobs and services – he’s now proven himself incompetent on both ends.”
And everybody knows that if Andrew Scheer ever became Prime Minister he would do exactly the same thing.
Especially since him and his Cons are already preparing to turn medicare into a business, by holding fundraisers like this one...
And what should also be obvious, is that if Scheer is ever elected Prime Minister, between him, Jason Kenney, and Rob Ford, our precious medicare system won't stand a chance.
There are now less than three months to go before the election that will determine the fate of this country and its medicare system.
The American private healthcare companies are already circling like vultures over our country.
So it really comes down to this:
Or we defeat Scheer and his brutish Cons.
Or we'll regret it forever...
Canadians deserve what they get if they buy into this steaming pile of lies.
ReplyDeleteThe big problem is they will buy into Scheer's lies. In Ontario, they bought Ford's lies hook, line, and sinker. Now look! I have a "bad habit" of sitting down and writing out maybe twenty or thirty questions to ask candidates in an election. Most (Liberal and NDP) read them and will discuss them. Every time, a conservative candidate will quickly read through them, then hand them back to me and tell me to get lost. Well, what they actually say is that they can tell by the tone and subject of my questions that I won't like their answers, thus they aren't getting my vote. Which brings me to the disaster of the June, 2018 Ontario election, and the stupid people putting in the Ford train wreck. All those "faithful conservatives" I work with (most are of the elite class that are typically conservative) chastised me for supporting the party I did. yes, I voted NDP, only because the lady who ran has been our elected representative for the past three elections, and she's been an excellent representative. It was a case of voting for the person, rather than the party. Anyway, now, all those "faithful conservatives" have done nothing but bitch and complain about what Ford has done. I have had to bite my tongue and not say, "Well, I told you so!" the problem is, a lot of them have said they won't vote in October, as they can't trust any of the parties. By not voting, they are voting for whoever gets in. Well, one person who said she won't vote got a good lecture from me about the Homophobic bigot names Scheer. She changed her mind, and said maybe Trudeau isn't as bad as the media is making him out to be. Besides, she has a Liberal representative who's been a very good representative for the riding she lives in.
DeleteOne down, fifteen to go!
Hi Cynical Guy...Well done, that's the way to win people over, one person at a time. Social media can be a useful tool, but nothing beats person to person contact. I'm also glad to hear that so many "faithful conservatives" are finally realizing their mistake. It would be nice if they also voted for a progressive in October, but if they stay at home that's good too. If the Cons lose any part of their base they could be in big trouble. Keep up the good work !!
DeleteHi anon @10:04 pm....Yes they will deserve what they get if they vote for the Cons. And it will be bad, worse than any of them can imagine. Trump and his scumbags have taken politics to a new low, and Scheer and his Cons will do the same here, and so must not be allowed to win..
DeleteThe thing about a story, even in Con fantasy land it has to have some consistency to be believed ( eg A leads to B and B leads to C) When it comes to budgets historically the Cons wail about the debt and how it is going to kill the future while promising to reign it in by cutting useless government waste and let free markets do their job. As Dougie explained its simple to gain 4% efficiencies with "No Pain" its just that the elitist incompetent Liberals are just too corrupt to do it! Well the voting public are now aware that is just so much smoke so what is is the Smearmongel to do? He has to attack the FEARFULL DEFECIT but distance himself from Dougie the cost cutting Medicare hack. What will the story line be? Suspect that that it will be a page from Trumps book... no austerity because we are such incredibly smart negotiators the world will flock to us for our oily goods, weapons, cutting edge technology and lay immense wealth on our doorstep! Hey how else can he promise increasing medicare payments and a shrinking deficit without going the brain dead Dougie austerity route ... presto awesome super smart negotiating skills is the answer. Life is good in fantasy land.

I again feel the need to apologize on behalf of my country. With Trump (and useful idiot Sanders) now drawing up their own plans to raid Canada's medicine cabinet, I truly believe this poor little country is on the brink of an Anschluss. The three stooges are completely owned by American oligarch interests and would sell you out to the evil empire. The elephant in the bed has never been a hungrier or more insatiable beast than it is now. To paraphrase the classic cartoon strip Pogo, I have seen the enemy and it is U.S. Canadians better #StandWithTrudeau or you'll be colonized -- colon-ized, that is, shoved right up Trump's fat Russian ass..et.
DeleteHi RT....Scheer's "guarantee" to maintain and even raise health transfers is one of the most cynical and dishonest things he has ever done. He must know that those transfers go into general revenues, and can be used for anything. And the model for all those right-wingers is Britain, for what the ghastly Cons in that country have done to their NHS is criminal. First they make savage cuts, then they claim that the system is failing, and then they privatize. We can't allow that scam to happen here...
DeleteTake it from an American: People will die. No wonder he's a Brexshitter: the NHS is a gold mine that the obscene billionaire class can't wait to get their grubby claws on. The religious fanatics want privatization so they can have unlimited "conscience exemptions" which is code for hiding behind god-bothering to deny healthcare to people they don't like. Ushering in the rapture to own the libs. Trump went so far as to allow anyone in the vague category of "healthcare providers" -- including paramedics and pharmacists -- to discriminate against patients even for otherwise non-controversial treatments like chemotherapy and giving aid in a car accident. Imagine letting black people die of cancer because of a sincere belief in the Curse of Ham. Just wait until the anti-vaxers get in on the act. Or the Christian Scientists. That's where privatization in the hands of deep-pocketed religious fanatics leads to, where it already is in the U.S. It's eugenics by any other name. Conservatism has revealed itself to be horrifically and sadistically malevolent much like its forebears in the 1930s. Andrew Scheer's "healthcare plan" is Action T4. So much for being "pro-life." The man himself is a walking disease.
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie....I am very sympathetic to Americans coming up to Canada to buy the insulin they need, I have to watch my blood sugar carefully, so I can't imagine what it's like to have full blown diabetes and have to ration or go without insulin. It can't be the long term solution to the problem, but seeing how happy those Americans were made my day...
DeleteYes, I was thrilled as well. Bernie knows very well that insulin tours aren't the long-term solution - imagine diabetics in Alabama and Mississipi, the poorest and unhealthiest states - in many places only junk food is available - but it is important to see this tragic situation embodied in real people.
DeleteFollow the money, Cons warm up to Saudi Arabia.
ReplyDeleteSo much for barbaric practices. They should count themselves lucky Trudeau hasn't applied the Khashoggi treatment to their propagandists at Globe and Postmedia. Meanwhile, aren't these the same "ethical oil" hacks calling for an Albexit because "Jihad Justin" is allowing "foreign-funded environmentalists" to "sabotage" the "patriotic" Canadian dinosaur energy sector? Facts, how do they work?
DeleteHI Steve....I think the Con Death Machine must be out of control. On the one hand they are cricizing the Trudeau government for not being hard enough on the Saudis. On the other hand they are talking about cozying up to that barbarous regime. They really are both evil and incompetent...
DeleteXenophobe, LGBT hater, racist , misogynist: I imagine Sheerly-not is in a closet somewhere in his 34 room rent free house desperately trying to find someone else to hate.
ReplyDeleteTo reply to both Steve and rumleyfips, it would figure that cons warm up to Saudi Arabia. They, Saudi Arabia, are the champions of human rights violators, especially when it comes to LGBTQs. So it stands to reason that Randy-Andy, the Homophobic bigot, would want to warm up to them. Birds of a feather and all that!

DeleteSomething for you to share in your next conversation with anyone who thinks Scheeria Law isn't a thing.
A Leaked Report Links This Conservative Candidate to a Homophobic Past | VICE Canada
“Andrew Scheer says all the time that his party isn’t open to hate,” the former PC party organizer said. “But, on the ground, someone who’s openly homophobic and Islamophobic can become a candidate—it’s hypocritical.” Scheer’s office did not reply to requests for comment.
Because of course he didn't. And it's looking more and more like Patrick Brown was the Al Franken of Joe Clarks. Someone hijacked the ONPC race to push Doug and the socon thugs in at all costs. And that someone is a certain fat cat named Herrball Harper.
Define irony: When the blog that Rebel scum stormtrooper Gavin McInnes co-founded ends up turning their scrutiny to the Rebel scum stormtroopers' own political party.
Jackie, thank you for the article. It shows what a lying, deceitful guy Randy-Andy is.
DeleteWe now have a comment from Sheer-nonsense . That's my girl he said in a not for public statement.
ReplyDeleteOT but does the Star or any of the other progressive outlets usually publish a how-to strategic voting guide during elections? People really need to get on board with this because the polling is tighter than a straitjacket right now.
ReplyDeletethe Star for some reason is all in on weak Andy
DeleteJust want to say Canadian "journalism" is dumb and desperate. A construction sign bearing the name of the company that must not be mentioned triggers a waste of ink from Susan Delacourt. Story has receded from the headlines so let's bring it back into the headlines! FFS get a life. Must be a slow news day, I mean it's not like there's any racism or bigotry in the Conservatives to focus on or questions to be asked about their ties to the gun lobby after the 249th mass shooting in the U.S. this year. It's not like they've been openly embracing the same ideology that fueled two murderers currently on the lam and the majority of mass shooters in the U.S., the Christchurch killer or Canada's own homegrown mosque murderer. Nope, let's talk about signs. Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. I saw the sign, I opened up my eyes and saw the sign. All the Time-Life top 10 greatest hits in this pathetic blog post from Susie Q. at the Toronto Fallen Star. I've read high school newsletters with better-quality op-eds about chocolate milk.
ReplyDeleteOne more weekend read. Canada's future might be better off (that is, more Liberal) without Alberta dragging it down. Kind of how I feel about the U.S. South.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.macleans.ca/politics/ottawa/imagining-a-federal-election-without-alberta-or-quebec/
Federal Projection: Without Alberta
By using current numbers and taking the 34 federal Alberta districts out of the confederation, the Liberals would hold an average three-point lead over the Conservatives—a swing of about five points in favour of the LPC compared with the actual projection. The NDP and Green vote projections remain essentially similar.
The seat projection would, not surprisingly, flip heavily in favour of the Liberals. By removing Alberta’s 34 seats, Canada would be left with 304 seats, which means the new threshold for a majority would be set at 153 seats (304/2 + 1). The Liberals’ seat projection average would sit just below that mark at 149 seats (even though the confidence intervals remain quite wide).
With an approximate 35 seat-lead on average, the Liberals would be hands-on favourites to win the election.
Go ahead, Kenney. Make our day. Take Saskitoba with you. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
that is exactly the reaction the right wants
DeleteHi Jackie ....Those are interesting numbers. I thought the difference post Alberta and Saskatchewan would be more dramatic. But I'll take it🍻🍹🎉🎉
DeleteThe pay-for-health thing has been floated around forever by Cons.
ReplyDeleteIt's always:
(smiley, friendly voice): "It wouldn't be so bad if those who had more money could pay for stuff, right? It wouldn't stop you from getting stuff."
It's coming...and that's why we need to re-elect Just Justin to stop the bleeding.
Hi Pierre...I agree, there is no bigger target for the big healthcare companies than our Medicare system. Harper was on his way to semi-privatizing it, and Scheer will take it one step further. In the U.K. Virgin runs medical clinics so anything is possible. And yes, if we lose the election we will regret it forever...
DeleteThe Doug Ford train wreck is going to force Scheer to take a hard turn left to avoid it, which will push Trudeau left, which will push Jagmeet Singh more left, which will push Elizabeth May further left, and who cares what the BQ think.
ReplyDeleteSo this could be a silver lining to having Premier Doug Ford descerating Ontario. That and the OPC will be burnt for at least a generation, he will be the PCs Bob Ray mixed with Mike Harris.
The Doug Ford train wreck is going to force Scheer to take a hard turn left to avoid it
DeleteHe can't. Not that he would anyway. Now he's boxed in by Kenney's ransom demands, and gave the Liberals another gift to highlight what a bigot he is in boycotting Pride with the lame excuse that his CFL brother-in-law showed up at an event instead. Let's see if he sends Jon Ryan to the debates. Coward.
Now's the time for the TruGrit team to dig up his connections to the gun lobby and shout from the rooftops. Go nuclear with ads featuring footage from the U.S. Simon should send that archived page of Scheer's leadership platform to every Liberal MP one can think of, and decent journalists like Sandy Garossino and Fatima Syed. Dare I say it, even Woke Charlie might want to have a go at it.
Shit just got real.
