Andrew Scheer, Doug Ford, and the Con Assault on Medicare

I still like that bobble-headed Andrew Scheer ad. It still makes me laugh.

But I do have one small problem with it.

It does make Scheer look like a bumbling weakling, a man who would never NO to Doug Ford. Or a man who always says YES to Jason Kenney and Stephen Harper.

But it also makes Scheer look like a nice guy, Canada's Howdy Doody Con doll.

When he definitely is NOT a nice guy.

He's a ruthless religious fanatic, a racist, a misogynist, and a homophobe, who will say or do anything to impose his hard-right beliefs on this country.

And he's no Howdy Doody doll.

He's a nasty little Chucky doll itching to carve the guts out of our government and our medicare system...

Which is why I much prefer this Engage Canada ad...

For Doug Ford is already mutilating medicare.

The Ontario government is cutting 400 health sector jobs, adding to hundreds of layoffs – including educators and autism workers – under Premier Doug Ford, despite his promise that not a single person would lose their job.

Where Ford goes Scheer is sure to follow.

And judging from this fundraiser last month he can't wait to start slashing...

I wonder if any of those who voted for Ford, and are preparing to vote for Scheer, understand what could happen if those hardline right-wing ideologues got their grubby paws on our medicare system.

I wonder if any of them ever worry about seeing themselves or their loved ones in the face of that woman in that ad...

The one who looks like she's wondering where her Canada went.

For if Scheer and his henchmen ever do get to "restructure" our healthcare system there will be a lot of other Canadians wondering the same thing.

The risk is too great. The Cons must be stopped.

Before they destroy this country and its values....

  1. The ones who are planning to vote for Scheer don't care. It's the fucking myopic purity ponies who abandoned the Liberals because they swallowed the "Crooked Justin" bullshit spoon-fed by the Con media, and are stomping their feet about pipelines and election reform and other single-issue nitpicks, who stand a good chance of splitting the vote in protest. How can anyone call this voting one's "conscience" if that's the likely outcome? What kind of conscience do they have? They'll take a look at that poor woman and blame Trudeau for not being progressive enough just like "$hillary" wasn't pure enough. History may not repeat but it sure does rhyme!

If people don't get their act together and vote strategically, the blood of innocents and the destruction of Canada will absolutely be on their hands. And we know exactly who kickstarted this catastrophe in the making. "My truth," aka a self-serving lie by an egotistical brat who couldn't tolerate a negative performance review. And they're STILL twisting the knife in his back because they're so "independent"! I am so angry at those two for what they've done to Justin's reputation, and what they stand a good chance of doing to Canada. 38 million people would stand to suffer because poor Jody lost her dream job. Boo fucking hoo. Justin gets undeserved flak due to a relentless smear campaign that unfairly damaged his good name, but Canada staring down the barrel of 2016 America is ALL THEIR FAULT! Shame on them!

Boo fucking hoo indeed, Jackie. If Scheer lulls enough idiots to vote him into power I will personally hold JWR responsible for it. This destructive incompetent's place in history will be sealed for the damage she will have caused to this country and not as her tumultuous tenure as justice minister. Those poor souls who reported to her and had to endure her well known ways of treating them like shit will not remain silent forever and we will finally hear some truth about poor little Jody's vindictive mean streak. That will be her legacy that she created like she did everything else, all on her own.

    2. You can add Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor to that list of casualties Judge Judas left in her wake. "My way or the Huawei." She made such a mess of that file by kowtowing to Trump that she caused an international incident and most likely, the execution of two Canadians whose deaths will be blamed on Trudeau. What is it Rick Wilson says? Everything Trump touches dies? I've been going through the PM's official webpage trying to preserve things manually at Wayback Machine for nostalgic posterity. Going back over his itineraries, it seems things really started to fall apart for the Liberals in January of this year, and the cabinet shuffle happened right around the time of McCallum's resignation. It stands to reason that her fuckup on the China file was the last straw that led to her shuffle, and not the SNC Stupid Nothingburger Controversy red herring that she so deftly pulled from her Bugass (probably with coaching from daddy or the aging punk rocker) to do the most damage to Trudeau.

I keep hoping that he'll write a slam book that names and shames her, Kinsella and no doubt others as the backstabbers who ruined his career, but unlike Judas and Wornout, Justin doesn't seem to have a vindictive bone in his body. If he does write a tell-all and go on the media circuit (ideally boycotting Canada's media altogether and sticking with the States to chat with folks like Colbert, because that's where he's clearly still appreciated), it'll be the politest of putdowns, because the caricature of Nixon North that's been made of him (by JWR herself, with her sick little joke about the Saturday Night Massacre) is just not who he is. But like you said, there's nothing stopping the, what, four? chiefs of staff she went through from spilling the beans about what a stinging bee itch she was and is, and nothing stopping Trudeau from waiving parliamentary privilege at the last minute to let the rest of the Liberal caucus air their Festivus grievances if they so choose.

The only one guilty of retaliatory malice is her, her partner in slime Pisspot, and the disturbed-stalker Svengali who it's quite clear has been directing their banshee duet behind the scenes. A pox on her big house and upon everyone who swallowed the self-serving lie that she spewed out as "her truth."

As for Trudeau, I hope he quits the leadership in protest and spends more time among his constituency, boycotting QP for the remainder of his term in Papineau. Maybe serve a couple more afterwards so he can at least collect his pension at 55. But I see no reason for the teacher to venture into the free-range insane asylum of the HoC just to be heckled by the juvenile delinquents whose approach to "policy disagreement" is to make fun of his speech impediments and his mental health. They're all horrible people and Trudeau is the only decent one in the room. I hope Canada is able to rebuild and I sincerely hope Trudeau is able to clear his good name and move on with his life.

    3. Hi Jackie....Don't despair, tracking from an as yet unpublished poll shows the Cons falling and the a liberals rising to a point where if an election was held tomorrow the Liberals would form at the very least a minority government. And I expect that result to improve as Scheer comes under more scrutiny. The universe is unfolding again as it should...

    4. Hi JD....The Connies are fading away and contrary to what was predicted by the Con media may have trouble hanging on to their seats. JWR is barely ahead in a riding she was supposed to sweep, and Philpott is way behind the Liberals in her riding. I have a great graphic of the two of them as toast and I'll try to use it sometime...😉

    5. How accurate is Frank's modeling, historically? Grenier's aggregate and the 338 chart still shows them ahead, the trajectory going down but not by much. The Cons can't grow their base but aren't shrinking it much either; the problem is May being a pied-piper spoiler siphoning support from Trudeau. She's deluded if she thinks propping up or electing the Cons would have any positive effect on her pet issue. Does she get that the Greens will never form government and are just splitting the vote? If she really cared about the environment and wasn't all in on the "Justin sucks" bandwagon with the rest of them, she would be out there shouting "strategic voting!" from the rooftops to have the Greens prop up a Liberal minority. I still think this election is going to have to come down to strategic voting, or Canada goes bust. RunoffTogether.ca has a howto and I hope ads and flyers are sent out for just how to do that. They should be sending their message to Engage Canada so they can publish information on how to go ABC.

    6. Oh, and Barney Fife said on CTV that the most over-covered story of the past six months was... the Alberta election! Not the catch-and-kill nontroversy he "broke" from some "anonymous tipster" without checking the facts. I hate that ruthless tabloid hack so fucking much. Mahar Arar was spring-training baseball for him, so once he hits the big leagues he hits a walk-off grand slam by whacking at Trudeau. He definitely makes my inner Arya Stark come alive.

It appears that the Conservative candidate in London-West is/was the Executive Director of a for-profit healthcare company.

    1. Hi UU....I'm not surprised, the for profit healthcare industry is planning a massive push to try to privatize as much of our Medicare system as they can. Unfortunately for them they don't seem to understand that they will only provide us with the best kind of ammunition to use against their Con tools...

    1. Hi rumleyfips...in Scheer's case it's mostly his rabid right-wing ideology that is fuelling his drive to privatize medicare. Apparently he sees it as socialism in action, which is not surprisingly a lot like Harper's view. Harper cut $36 billion from medicare transfers, Scheer would privatize it to the same degree the British Cons have done to the NHS. So now you have Virgin the transportation company running some clinics. Great eh?

Perhaps it was just a local phenomenon but over the past decade I witnessed health care transform from a work to rule - tit for tat system to one of team work and genuine patient support. Its not just the financial cuts but the "us vs them" mentality that will be the most damaging cost of all. Yet people vote for the Chuckie and Duh dolls, presumably just for the satisfaction of having their negative views about the future verified.

  5. Hi RT....The healthcare system has made some very good changes, and there are others it can make that would make life even better for their patients. I am personally invested in pushing for better home care like some programs in Britain. These programs allow seniors to remain in their Homs longer, as well as relieving pressure on hospitals and saving money so everybody benefits. We do need to be more creative, but privatization is not the answer...
