Will Doug Ford Cost Andrew Scheer's Cons the Next Election?

When Doug Ford became the premier of Ontario, Andrew Scheer was so excited he treated him like his new best friend forever.

It was going to be the Great Alliance, with the two Cons vowing to work together to defeat Justin Trudeau and his satanic carbon tax.

And Scheer seemed to believe that Ford could deliver unto him all the Ontario seats he needed for his glorious, Godly, majority.

But now not so much.

For sadly for Scheer, Ford is out of control.

The moment he got the chainsaw he went on a rampage gutting government budgets, closing down offices, attacking everything that moved seemingly at random.

The damage he's done already has to be seen to be believed.

And can only be called criminal.

So needless to say his popularity is tanking.

Big Time.

The governing Progressive Conservatives have slid to third, Premier Doug Ford’s favourability ratings have now fallen below those of Kathleen Wynne’s at the end of her tenure, while Liberal voters say that John Tory is their most preferred choice to lead the Ontario Liberal Party.

In fact it's falling so fast Ford is setting new records for rapid decline, or aggravated incompetence.

“More and more Ontarians are turning away from Doug Ford as his support is collapsing,” said Quito Maggi, President and CEO of Mainstreet Research. “We have never seen an imcumbent premier reach these depths in popular opinion with barely a year into his mandate.”

To make matters worse, people have started to boo him.

And you can be sure that those boos are also ringing in the ears of his BFF Scheer.

For if this is indeed happening it could be the beginning of the end...

Scheer may have a slim lead in the polls right now, but with Ford dragging his numbers down like that he won't have it for long.

And without Ontario he will not win.

Which must have really put a damper on this relationship...

And just as I once predicted, it won't be long before Scheer will be trying to put as much distance between himself and the Fordzilla...

I like horror stories with happy endings.

So much for the Great Alliance.

So much for those Con clowns...

  1. Dougie Dougie Dougie, Toronto budget has gone up 40% in 4 years, well thats close Doug it has gone up under 4% a year for four years. I think the Trump reality distortion field does not work quite as well in Canada.

Just wait till young Jason comes to town to campaign, that would be unprecedented and just wrong in so many ways. I do hope he gets caught with both his pants down and a choirboy.

    1. Hi Steve...I for one can't wait to see Kenney campaigning for Scheer in Ontario. If Ford is driving down Scheer's numbers imagine what damage That old closet queen might cause...

Someone should tell Dougie that elitist propaganda is only meant to be a distraction while the real work of slowly dismantling the system is kept under wraps. Guess the slow and steady is too complex or just not macho enough for Doug the thug.

    1. Hi RT....I belove that Ford is in such a hurry to carve a big chunk out of the deficit he himself has made even bigger, he couldn't care less what happens to Ontario. He wants to be able to call himself the Deficit Buster when Scheer is forced to resign and Dougie can drop everything and run for Con leader. It sounds crazy, but then as you point out, Fraud ain't too bright....

At Steve — thanks for the BIG laugh! The ‘pants down avec choir boy’ LOL. I dare to dream! He’s about to take the torch to Alberta so a good part of Canada will be on FIRE by the time October rolls around and Canadians will hopefully wake up and re-elect the only SANE party under Trudeau. Post media will do it’s best to continue on the character assassination of Trudeau but the public will be feeling real pain in Ontario and Alberta and even tho AB won’t vote Liberal the rest of Canada will see the disaster the career politician Albertans elected for what he is — the empty suit with a mean streak.
Cheers and thanks again for the laugh! That’s the key — make them look like the fools they are and dangerous ideologues and woefully incompetent to boot. They have NO clue how to govern or move into the future — all they do is destroy — mean buggers the lot of them.

    1. Hi anon...yes, only Kenney could come up with such a brilliant strategy. Campaign in Ontario against those trying to fight climate change, while his own province gos up in flames. But then like Ford, Kenney isn't really interested in being a mere Premier, he also wants to be Prime Minister. The day those empty vessels collide will be something to behold...

Including whats happening to cuts in Franco-Ontarian services, yeah I'm sure Scheer would have all the chances he can have to gather up all parliamentary seats in the province (if you can read sarcasm of course).

    1. Hi anon...yes, Ford must be hoping people have forgotten his disgusting cuts to Franco-Ontarian services. But I live in a bilingual home so I certainly won't forget, and I'll be doing all I can to remind Quebecers about his buddy Scheer and his anti-French bigots. Not that they need reminding, since as usual they are the most anti-Con Canadians in the whole country...

    Hereby, you have been warned!
Conservatism comes with a mean streak.
It's just a question of how long it will take for the inevitable hit-below-the-belt to be felt, in the particular, (By said risk-takers).
That you can take to the bank.
Time-tested reasons Cons should be anathema to every Canadian:
a political party that—in the name of austerity—withdraws support from the poor, the sick, the foreign, and the unemployed while rewarding those in society who are least in need of reward
that sells off our profitable public goods to private companies while keeping the loss-making ones in the public domain
that boasts about cleaning up the economy while creating more new debt than many a Liberal government
that wants to hand sovereignty over some of our most important public institutions to big business
that expresses racist, sexist, or homophobic views
that would foist its religious and ideological views on the body politic (not to mention women's bodies!)
    I could go on... :D

It shouldn't be necessary to inform you that you are NOT in the minority. But, maybe you can take heart in it:
You and I and almost 60% of Ontario's votes (hence, a majority) were for other than Doug Ford. Unfortunately, the winning Party gets in--whenever the progressive vote is split--with well under a majority.

The conversation would be so stimulating and I know I could count it as the kind where I'd actually learn more than I'd impart. I always want to meet that kind of person to talk to, in real life--but it never works out. The last person i talked to who knew more than I did about practically anything and everything, died prematurely. And I only ever talked to that person by way of email in the early days thereof. Never even met that person, but he was a huge loss.
I talk to lots of people, all the time, but...that's not what I mean. The mind can be such a trip--

You had the control to end the inanity and you did. You and we cant control what happens in October but we sure can help sway the vote in each of our corners of this great country. Should the unthinkable occur in October, then you can at least say you and we tried and then decide your future from there on.

“We have never seen an incumbent premier reach these depths in popular opinion with barely a year into his mandate.”

That's because we've never put an ape in to run Ontario. Apes belong in the wild, not Queens Park. If only we could use a tranquilizer dart to sedate him and release him somewhere in the jungles of Scarborough where he can rejoin his tribe of fellow apes to share a few laughs, bananas and buck-a-beers, hmmm.
I can't say I'm surprised at Doug's downward spiral. The idiots who allowed this baboon to lead them as opposed to a saner, safer Ms. Elliott must be feeling rather stunned and stupid these days. One and done Doug will be less popular than a Ford Pinto though his explosions emanate from the front rather than rear end.
"Will Doug Ford Cost Andrew Scheer's Cons the Next Election?"
It will certainly not help him, Simon. Doug's follies should provide Ontarians with a crystal ball vision of a Canada ruled by a majority of Cons and if that doesn't scare you, then you are sadly ignorant, or hopelessly mired in the Con world of make believe.

    2. Hi JD....As you know, I have always believed that Ford has a striking resemblance to an ape, with the only difference being that most apes are smarter. And I am convinced that he will do Scheer enormous damage. One thing many people have forgotten is that both Ford and Scheer were elected leaders of their respective parties with the decisive support of social conservatives. And that will also come back to haunt them. Cons are the scum of the earth, and we cannot build a better world until the day they are destroyed...

    2. I can assure you he would have, if "doing politics differently" and reaching across the aisle didn't result with the opposition(s) reaching across to grab his throat. Trudeau's "rookie mistake" is that he gave an inch (centimetre?) to the opposition(s) expecting them to act in good faith, and they blew up the process because they were still angry about losing. In Justin's NYT interview he clearly shows regret, or hindsight at least (for 2020?) over the things he did or didn't do that he ascribes to a different approach to governance. He's not interested in warfare, but there's only so much you can do when there's no hope of reaching amicable consensus. If he hadn't given away their majority on the commission, they'd have complained that he was being a dictator, and yet they did anyway.

Obama tried the same thing on a number of issues, namely healthcare reform: "Let's work together." Instead, the Republicans sabotaged him every step of the way too, and then the disappointed purity ponies sat home, pouted, and called him a sellout because he didn't give them single-payer. Sound familiar? I can't even begin to imagine the chaos and gridlock that would have ensued if the U.S. had a multiparty gumbo instead of our untenable, loggerheads duopoly. But I digress.

Rather than drag the whole thing out and subject the country to an expensive and complex referendum (which have repeatedly failed on provincial ballots every time they've been tried), Trudeau spiked the ball and moved on to other things. Cue the shouts of "betrayal" from the wailing chorus that wasn't acting in good faith in the first place.

Obama and Trudeau's only "fault," Kryptonite, or Achilles' heel is that they are not Machiavellian, ruthless partisans. Obama once described himself as a Reagan Democrat; Trudeau might be a Tru Grit (by name) but with shades of purple and orange. But in an age of simplistic soundbites and extremes, what used to be called bipartisanship or centrism gets branded as weakness or even duplicity, "selling out." Already I've seen bitter accusations on the various commenting boards labeling Obama as "Neville Chamberlain" and blaming him for Trump. If It Can't Happen Here "happens here" in Canada, I'm sure the same "appeaser" smear will be tagged on Trudeau. Seems no one is really interested in Common Ground or the idea of It Takes a Village to be Stronger Together.

The real fault lies (and I do mean lies) with the McConnells (Scheers, Harpers) of the world, their purity-pony mirror images, and the feckless media apparatus that lays the blame on the star candidate rather than perform due diligence informing the public on complex issues, whether it's healthcare or comparative government or the pros and cons of various ballot-counting systems. How is PR working out for Angela Merkel, with neo-Nazis holding the balance of power? Ranked balloting isn't likely to save France from a Le Pen or equivalent in 2022 either. Obama won the popular vote and electoral college twice. Hillary won the popular vote; the electoral college did her in. None of this means anything if the voters don't make an informed and holistic choice keeping not only their own well-being in mind but their neighbors as well.

The fault is not within our stars (or our ballots), but in ourselves, the body politic. You go to war with the army you have, not the army (or system) you want. If people can't or won't realize this and act accordingly, an American Mandela or a Canadian Caesar can only do so much. As Justin said in his eulogy for Pierre: "It's up to all of us now." A myopic focus on petty and spiteful grievances and single-issue gripes, rather than the bigger picture, won't be much help on the battlefield ahead.

Well said Jackie, its impossible to fix bad behavior by changing the electoral system. The gamers just modify their strategy and appear to move closer to the center but do behind the scenes deals with smaller political groups that control the balance of power. Just ask Netty how its done and look at the results in any number of less evolved societies. PR only works when the population reaches a certain level of emotional intelligence. Seems we still have a way to go. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_representation#List_of_countries_using_proportional_representation

    6. Hi Jackie...brilliant comment. Justin Trudeau's big mistake was trusting people like Nathan Cullen. And what makes the whole situation so ironic is that if a referendum had been held it would almost certainly been defeated and buried the whole idea of electoral reform for at least a generation. So far from killing the idea Trudeau actually saved it for another attempt down the road. So all those pathetic moaners who want Trudeau to pay for what he did are beating a dead horse and playing into the hands of the Cons...
