A long time ago I started warning people that Andrew Scheer was not what he appeared to be. He was an alt-right sympathizer and a threat to this country and its values.
Some laughed at that warning, finding it impossible to imagine that the apparently bland nerd with the creepy smile could threaten anyone or anything.
Well Scheer has now revealed or exposed himself, and this is who he really is.
Justin Trudeau wants to give up Canadian sovereignty to an unelected international body. Say NO to the U.N. Global Compact for Migration: https://t.co/YbSdVtoVy6 #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/s7EOwJUCPB— Conservative Party (@CPC_HQ) December 5, 2018
Not just another blatant lie from the serial liar Scheer.
Our very own would be Donald Trump, who would have us believe that a U.N. agreement which aims to promote international co-operation, is a threat to our sovereignty.
When it's no such thing. Even Chris Alexander, Stephen Harper's former immigration minister, knows that:
Scheer’s statement is factually incorrect: this Compact is a political declaration, not a legally binding treaty: it has no impact on our sovereignty. Canada has always been a champion & example of safe, orderly & regular migration. https://t.co/wfk7VqAKJU— Chris Alexander (@calxandr) December 4, 2018
And so does Andrew Coyne, who calls Scheer's statement a deeply disturbing attempt to pander to the hard right.
Since he became Conservative leader, it has been a matter of speculation: how far would Andrew Scheer go to pander to the populist-nationalist right, specifically on the matter of immigration?
Well now we have our answer: as far as it takes. Exploiting Liberal discomfort over the border-crossing issue was one thing. But with the Conservative leader’s embrace of far-right fear-mongering over an anodyne UN agreement on immigration, we are deep into the fever swamp. It is disturbing and frankly embarrassing to see.
As Coyne says, the U.N. Compact is just an attempt to try to bring some order to a growing human problem.
With so many people on the move — some 258 million now live outside their country of birth — there is a pressing need for states to work together. If countries attempt to deal with the pressures of immigration by dumping migrants on each other’s doorsteps, no one’s interests will be served.
It's not binding.
The compact is a statement of broad principles, not a body of law.
The text has been agreed to by all the countries of the world, except Trump's United States.
And Scheer's position leaves him and his Cons in REALLY bad company.
Scheer would put us in select company in rejecting the compact: not only Donald Trump, but the right-wing nationalist parties in Europe, such as now govern Hungary, Austria and Poland. I had not thought I would ever see the Conservative Party of Canada among their number, but you learn something new every day.
And leaves me wondering why Con is so surprised.
For this racist attack ad should have made it clear how low the Cons are prepared to go...
And who they really are.
The tinpot Trumplings who are now not just competing with the hate mongering Ezra Levant.
But are also locked in a desperate struggle with Maxime Bernier over who is more racist and xenophobic.
With Bernier proudly claiming the title at the present time, and forcing the increasingly desperate Cons to crawl through the gutter to try to keep up.
But then, that is after all where they belong. Andrew Scheer is Canada's would be Donald Trump. He has now exposed his far right face.
And hopefully it will cost him EVERYTHING.
For we now know for sure, if we want to protect our country's sovereignty, and its values.
We must make absolutely sure that Scheer and his Cons are decisively defeated in the next election, before they poison this country further....
Poor Andrew Scheer, so desperate, so.... Not many people are listening to him these days, so he most likely has to make more extreme comments so people will pay attention. its like the old Hollywood line, "I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name correctly". Unfortunately this isn't Hollywood, its Canada and its playing with people's lives.
ReplyDeleteAs you point out there are 258 M. people living outside their own countries and not because they want to. If the rest of the world doesn't start dealing with these issues, its not going to get better. if things get worse in other countries or climate change forces people to move, there will be another 100M very quickly, on the move. If they head to your country, you can't kill them all. So we either make plans to accommodate those moving or we try to fix the problem which causes them to move. Either way, we need to do something.
Things appear to be changing in the U.S.A. after the current mid term elections, but in some states, the out going politicians are tying the hands of the incoming politicians. What if things were to continue to become uglier and uglier and there were 10 million Americans standing at our border and they decided to walk in? What would Scheer want us to do? Kill them all. No they won't be the white and rich, they will be the LBGTQ community, people of colour, Muslims, Hindus, Jews. We either start to make plans or we have war.
Hi e.a.f....Andrew Scheer and the Cons know that stirring up fears about migrants and refugees can pay off as they have in parts of Europe. I hope Canadians won't be so easily influenced, not when our country is so huge it can accommodate a million times the number of refugees and migrants who will ever turn up at our borders. We need to aggressively counter Scheer's xenophobic lies, and act as big as our country...
DeleteSimon, one problem is the Liberals have done a very poor job of explaining the benefits of this Compact to Canada and the world. Saying 'the compact is not binding' is not enough, and you end up with over the top conspiracy theories.
ReplyDeleteAlso, other countries with moderate governments, like Switzerland and Japan, have refused to sign on the compact.
As e.a.f. says above the bottom of the matter is, why are some many people migrating? Unless we can collectively bring stability, human rights and prosperity to those parts of the world people want to flee, this problem is not going away.
Finally, to those who want to build walls, I'd say this: they don't work. Ask the Chinese!
Japan is notoriously insular and hostile to immigrants, and has a tendency towards racism that often goes under-reported due to the arguably more prevalent and dominant anti-Asian racism by white cultures the world over. Switzerland, meanwhile, isn't entirely the liberal utopia it's often made out to be. Most likely the latter just wants to maintain its trademark neutrality in case the millions on the move end up caught up in another world war.
DeleteThat being said, I don't know how much more the Liberals can do as regards selling openness, compassion, and -- here comes the tough part -- a bit of personal sacrifice, to a skeptical public distracted by viral memes about "creeping Sharia" and ready to spring on the latest conspiracy theory attached to the name Trudeau. As I've said before, probably the biggest difference between now and Trudeau père's "refugee project" of the 1970s is that the Conservatives still had a conscience, the 60,000 American draft dodgers were primarily middle-class whites... and cable TV and the Internet didn't exist to give every tinfoil crank with an axe to grind an audience of millions.
This isn't only a test for Justin Trudeau and his party but, in a greater sense, a test for all of us. Particularly the self-identified Christians about to celebrate a high holy day centering around the story of a Middle Eastern refugee infant fleeing persecution with his family. Trudeau does his best to live his faith insofar as is politically tenable; Scheer spreads a gospel of tribalism, paternal moralizing, and sensationalistic bullshit, then slams the door and calls forth the mob! "So this is Christmas, and what have you done?"
What??? Moderate governments like Japan? Japan has had virtually uninterrupted conservative rule since the 1950s. They accept about 20 refugees a year. Moderate my a$$!
DeleteHi BW....I completely agree. The Liberals need to aggressively counter this anti migrant propaganda or they could pay a heavy price later, for it can inflame people and fool them into thinking that they are really in danger of being invaded. The Liberals are very poor at messaging, the carbon tax is more evidence of that. But I have noticed that they are stepping up their efforts, and are even taking some time to counter the Cons on Twitter. It is annoying having to constantly counter all their lies, but as I said, they have no choice...
DeleteHi Jackie...I thought Coyne did a pretty good job of countering Scheer's lies on the U.N. Compact. But progressives need to do a lot more to make sure that Canadians understand that Scheer is once again lying like a thief. Like Trump Scheer counts on nobody being able to keep up with his lies. So the Liberals need to be more aggressive with the Cons, and stop letting them get away with murder. But as you point out it is a test for all of us. Xenophobia is spreading like cancer, and we Canadians need to draw on our values and reject that poison before we too are infected. I believe that the border issue is the best chance the Cons have of winning the next election. So it's essential that the issue be taken away from them long before the vote...
DeleteJapan has never welcomed people who are not Japanese. To become a citizen of Japan you had to live there for 10 years, change your name to a Japanese name and prove that you were living a Japanese life style and yes, they inspected your home. In the last few years they have dropped the need for a name change and lowered the requirement to 5 years but that is only because their population is declining hand over fist with an extremely low birth rate.
DeleteDuring the Vietnam exodus, Japan refused to take any refugees, they were willing however, to write very large cheques to any country who was willing to take the refugees.
Switzerland is Switzerland and isn't interested in being any thing but for the Swiss. They are different from other European countries, but it has insured their survival. Every one does need a place to hide their money, so no one can get it. That is how Switzerland has survived and they will continue to do so. It has worked for them. The odd very white, extremely rich person has managed to obtain Swiss citizenship, but there haven't been a lot.
If Coyne was really paying attention, he'd recognize that Scheer is Harper's puppet, and Harper is in league with those very same far-right governments through his quasi-clandestine IDU. It's not just Levant and Rebel, it's other dark-money and far right sources peddling this xenophobic agenda around the world. Unfortunately, all you have in your media is a pathetic excuse for "journalists" distracted by Trump's 3am tweets and quick to make a headline-grabbing scandal out of every time Trudeau sneezes the wrong way, plus tinfoil analysis of the alleged "cryptic symbolism" in his socks. Nobody, save for hardworking civilian sleuths on social media who care about their country but can't get anywhere near the attention that the national broadcaster does, is doing any real homework to investigate the Trump wannabes in your own backyard. While Fat Cat's away, his trained rats will play. But the so-called newshounds are too busy chasing the squirrels of the day!
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie...as I said above I thought Coyne did a reasonable job of taking on Scheer, but his line about being surprised by the Cons was both bizarre and depressing. Scheer has been lying like a mini Trump for almost two years, and Coyne is surprised he's lying about the U.N. Compact? I can't understand that and I will never accept it. At this time in our history if our media can't do its duty then they must be treated like Con collaborators...
DeleteOr the Maginot Line!
ReplyDeleteHi lagatta...let's hope we don't make don't make the same mistake the French did, and sit in our Maginot line and wait for the Cons to come to us. We need to become a lot more aggressive and take the battle to them..
DeletePeople are smarter than ever, this shameful lie, just like Dougs on the OOP commish will not land well.
ReplyDeleteHi Steve...the problem is most Canadians don't follow politics as closely as you and I do, so unless the media makes a bigger deal out of all that Con lying many could believe what they hear. And then we, and our country, could be in big trouble...
DeleteI hope the government has prepared the country (in whatever way it can) for the onslaught of fake news that will blanket us during the election campaign. My response to this recent action by Scheer...it's a test to see how well a "faked up" story can excite his base (and others). What liars these people are!
ReplyDeleteHi anon....As I said in my post, I think the main reason Scheer is lying about the U.N. Compact is because he is desperate not to give Maxime Bernier any advantage. But you're right, let's hope that the government is ready for the avalanche of fake news that is sure to come our way. Those of us in social media can also play a useful role, for we are more and better than them, and I'm confident we can teach those lying traitors a lesson they'll never forget...
DeleteChris Alexander's tweet stating that "Scheer's statement is factually incorrect" could be applied to 99% of the statements our would be PM(and sometimes make believe) utters. The art of deception is alive and well and is now all encompassing in Scheers quest to become PM. What Alexander conveniently left out was Scheer blowing his dog whistle once again as opposed to what he blew whilst under Harper.
ReplyDeleteScheer is so full of shit and hate that I can now barely stand to look at his smarmy, fake grin. He has no platform, no clue and no answers to what he continually attacks JT for. However, he will have to come up with some kind of a platform for the next election and will have to deal with the constant scrutiny it will no doubt deserve. And we all know how Andy deals with tough questions. Turn red then turn and run.
JD
Hi JD..l will never forgive Alexander for his ghastly cultural barbarism campaign, but I have to give him credit for embarrassing Scheer in such an excellent manner. Some Cons will never believe anything we say, but they might listen to Alexander, and I can only imagine how Scheer must have reacted. Like you I can barely stand the sight of him, but I look forward to the day him and his Cons are finally defeated. What a day it will be...
DeleteWe are ALL going in the same direction! In case you haven't noticed, Mother Nature is fighting back!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen...yes Mother Nature is indeed fighting back, but the good news is she's on our side...🌻
DeleteAustralia isn't signing it either. I'm going down to my local MP's office today to state my case for completely removing Canada from the unelected, unaccountable, globalist cabal known as the UN.
ReplyDeleteHi anon....please, I bruised a couple of ribs playing hockey last night, so every time I laugh it hurts. So stop it ha ha ha ha. I don't know how this country produced people like you, but you Con Trumplings are the absolute limit..And please take your medication💊💊💊💊💊
DeleteSimon can you do a story about France? Children are being arrested and Macron is gassing his own people, a flagrant violation of human rights.

Hi anon...I barely have the time to write about what is happening in this country.,but if I have some time this weekend I might try...
