Has The Bigotry Of The Cons Fooled and Scared Canadians?
I think you know how I feel about Andrew Scheer's kooky far right campaign against the U.N.'s Global Compact on Migration.
It's another Big Lie. It appeals to the worst instincts of humanity. It's the call of the loony fascist. And it's dangerous.
But I have to admit I never thought that many Canadians would be fooled by Scheer's monstrous lie.
And now I'm not so sure.
Because if true this is alarming.
The latest Nanos federal ballot tracking has the Conservatives at 34.8 per cent support, followed by the Liberals at 34.1 per cent, the NDP at 15.8 percent, the BQ at 3.1 per cent, the Greens at 8.2 per cent and the newly formed People’s Party of Canada (PPC) at 0.8 per cent.
And the reason it's so alarming, is because only one thing could have triggered such a sudden reversal.
Racist or xenophobic panic...
The kind Scheer and his sinister gang of Con Trumplings have been trying to stir up for months.
Where the truth is what they say it is...
And the more racism, the more xenophobia, the more fear the better.
You know, Bob Rae is right when he says this:
But if a lie is repeated enough, and isn't challenged enough and shot down.
At a time when bigotry is slowly poisoning this country, and hate crimes are soaring.
Canada as we know and love it could be threatened, and its values erased.
For it was racism and xenophobia that incubated the Brexit monster...
The monster that has now taken the UK to the brink of destruction.
And the same thing could happen here.
One moment you think you're in Canada...
The next moment you could be in a very different place...
A place called Con Canada, where the fascist mob rules, and hope goes to die.
I don't think it will happen here. I trust in the better instincts of Canadians.
But Andrew Scheer and his kooky Cons have now shown themselves to be far right extremists, out of sync with this country and its values.
So the time has come for progressives to attack them, like they have never been attacked before.
For let's be absolutely clear, our Canada is under attack. It's in real danger.
And resistance couldn't be more urgent or more necessary...
Woo hoo! Wait until winter is over and the hordes of Mordor start flooding the border again. Canada belongs to Canadians, enough of this multiculturalism experiment that no one asked for which was imposed on us by one of the original globalists... The nation-wrecker Pierre Trudeau.
ReplyDeleteIf Canada belongs to Canadians, then I suggest you and your old-stock inbreds promptly self-deport to Europe and give the land back to its original inhabitants. Enough of this white supremacy Lebensraum experiment that no one asked for, which was imposed by the nation-wreckers Columbus and MacDonald. Or fuck off and learn to share, you greedy, racist, xenophobic glutton.
DeleteYeah, because no ever immigrated here. Right?
DeleteUU
Multi culturalism is life. We have a family culuture, we live in a neighbourhood culture, a town culture, a city culture, a province culture and finally a National culture. We have to fit all of the little parts togehter.
DeleteHi anon@11:33 AM...please Trumpling try to control yourself. I forgot to mention he possibility that the Nanos poll like the Forum is an outlier. How for example can Justin Trudeau be way ahead of Scheer as preferred Prime Minister and the Cons be more popular than the Liberals? And even if the poll is accurate and some Canadians have been scared by Scheer's lies, when they find out they've been fooled they are not going to be too happy. Finally you dumb Con this country has been multicultural from the day it was founded, so what are you talking about?
DeleteHi Jackie....good for telling that dumb Con where to go as I should have done. I'm too damn polite. 😉
DeleteA. 11:33 a.m. I'll get in touch with the First Nation's sister and ask her how she feels about it. Guess all of us and that is all of us who aren't First Nations can start packing up and going back to where we came from. You may not like multi culturalism, but its been going on for centuries. So are you First Nations?: If not, when did your family arrive?
DeleteIf we just go back to after WW II it really started. Oh, right they were all from Europe, but I can remember when those from Europe and blonde and white with accents were not accepted in Canada. You were referred to as a "dirty D.P.". Then the Italians came and they said everything about them in Vancouver that they then said about the people from India. Then the Portugese came but no one could figure out they were different from the Italians so the same smears hit them. today their grand children could be voicing their "concerns" about multi culturalism just like the French did about the English and the English did about the French.
You know what, each group assimilates and the country moves on. In the late 1960s people complained about people from India. Now turn on your T.V. and about a 1/3 of the staff are descendents of those who came from India, out here in B.C. Get over yourself. If you don't like the "multi culturalism" of Canada, go back to the country your ancestors came from. If you're First Nations I apologize for the comment.
I just checked out CNN and there was Trump arguing with Nancy Pelosi about border security. The Cons are Trump’s Canadians, and that’s why they must be defeated.
ReplyDeleteHi anon ...i just saw the Trump and Pelosi exchange and it was both pathetic and hilarious. I especially liked the Internet version where Trump is a baby sitting in a high chair. But yes you're right, the bigot Cons are our Trumplings and that is the main reason they must be defeated....
DeleteI watched the exchange and then Stephen Corbett for more of the exchange. It was priceless. Next time Trump has to meet with Pelosi I'm sure he'll take her advise and meet in private. She is going to make a great Speaker and when they broom Trump, she's going to make a great V.P. Can see it now. She is formidable. Can't wait to see more of the dtrump/Pelosi show.
DeleteSimon, I would wait before jumping to conclusions. Eric Grenier suggests the Nanos poll could be an outlier, and should not be used to corroborate the Forum poll that you wrote about yesterday. My prediction is that the Liberals will regain their comfortable lead after the holidays are over.
ReplyDeleteHi anon...you're probably right, I should at least have caution readers that the poll could be an outlier,or been affect by the time of the year it was taken. However the Forum poll and the Nanos poll seem to register a sudden reaction, and since migration is such an emotional issue for some people, I'll have to wait for more polls after the holidays to see if some trend can be established....
DeleteWhat goes up fast tends to come down even quicker. If the Scheerites did manage to stir up a panic, when people realize they’ve been fooled they won’t be amused, and the Cons will deflate like a leaky balloon.
ReplyDeleteHi anon...that's a very good point. When people get carried away and react hysterically, they usually come down to earth with a bump, and if they feel they've been made to look like fools, they tend to take it out on those responsible. And believe me Scheer will be made to look like a liar, and he will pay the price...
DeleteIf the Cons are ahead how come on the question of preferred prime minister Trudeau leads Scheer by 36 percent to 25 percent? There is something screwy about this poll and I for one don’t believe it. Scheer is still a loser, and Trudeau is still going to humiliate him.
ReplyDeleteHi anon...yes, as I mentioned above, I should have put in the preferred Prime minister numbers if only because they do make the poll look a little screwy. We'll have to wait and see what other polls say, but I haven't the slightest doubt that when the only poll that counts arrives Trudeau is going to humiliate Scheer beyond recognition....😺
DeleteI am curious about that poll. The Greens have certainly shot up. While I support the Greens, I suspect this poll may be an outlier.
ReplyDeleteUU
Hi UU....I don't know what to the no about this poll or the Forum one. I suspect something is not right, but we will just have to wait for new polls in new year to get a better idea of what exactly is going on....
DeleteNanos is also a CON fav. It could be a double team to keep weak andy from being made into yesterdays tea.
ReplyDeleteI really dont think most Canadians consider immigration a ballot question. I would like to see the goverment pass legislation and even if it needs a provice signature to prevent 3rd Nation imigratation, and to limit the appeals of the people who jump lines to be Canadians.
Hi Steve....Nanos has usually proved reliable over the long term, but there are powerful interests trying to make it look as if Con supporters should not abandon Scheer and join the Bernier party. So I suppose anything is possible. As for the immigration issue, it can inflame the ignorant as it has in the UK and the U.S , but when the Cons tried it during the last election it backfired badly. So we'll just have to see, but the important thing right now is to make sure Canadians know that Scheer is once again lying like a thief...
DeleteThe value of public polls is exceedingly limited for a whole host of reasons of which I will not go into here.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see how the political winds are blowing look at the political parties. The political parties maintain teams whose function is to constantly take the temperature of the electorate. They have many more data sources than the media and they actually have people who are experts at analyzing that data. You see they use it for more than just talking points for media columnists. Of course, the parties do not release this data publically but you can catch a hint of what it is saying by watching how the parties act.
The Liberals have not looked uncomfortable since the writ was dropped in 2015. They have not felt the need to "change the channel" since they gained power. They have not used budgets, economic updates or cabinet shuffles to overcome some perceived problem. They have not prorogued Parliament since they won power. Governments routinely reset themselves halfway through their term with a new Speech from the Throne but this government did not feel the need. Although the Liberal Party has been critical of the Conservative Party and Andrew Scheer on social media those two names rarely pass the lips of Justin Trudeau. If you believe the media (which I do not) the Liberals have been in trouble a few times since 2015. If you look at how the Liberals are acting you can see that the media is talking out of their butts.
The Conservatives have looked uncomfortable since the Duffy Scandal broke in 2013. Since Mr. Scheer won the leadership of the Conservatives they have looked even more uncomfortable. Simon has documented much of their troubles very well on this site. Although it is the function of the Opposition to go after the government Mr. Scheer has been going about it like a demented Energizer Bunny. The level of shrillness and stridency of his attacks on the government has been over the top and unnecessary under normal circumstances. He blantantly lies about things that are easily fact checked and he has been called on those lies on a number of occasions. Lying is a political strategy but it is a very risky strategy that can come back to bite you on the ass. So why does he do it? Many say because he is firing up his base. Which leads to the question of why he believes he needs to keep firing up that base? Is there a danger that not keeping them fired up will cause him political problems down the road? I would not be surprised that the answer is 'yes'. I believe Mr. Bernier is a symtom of a much bigger problem in the Conservative Party of which we have only seen glimpses.
The next few months promises to be interesting but if you really want to see what is happening politically I would advise that you ignore the public polls and watch the parties.
Hi Ottlib...you make some very good points, as usual. One can't rely on polls especially since they have shown themselves to be so unreliable. I only use them to try to track trends, which is why I am surprised by the recent Forum and Nanos polls. The reason the Cons have to keep stirring up their base is because they can't afford to lose any of them, especially now that Bernier is out there trying to lure them away. But what I think is essential is that the Liberals and those of us in social media need to start making a bigger deal out of Scheer's many lies. If they don't many ignorant Canadians may start to believe them, and also believe at the start of the election campaign that the Liberals are just accusing the Cons of lying for crass political reasons. Which is of course ironic, but could be dangerous. We live in extraordinary times, and a lot of the things we once could take for granted we can't any longer..l
DeleteTrudeau has already rocked the world with his legalization. This will save billions and billions and let the people be happy. How many other best practices can he bring before his end. His father died on the NEP which in retrospect was the greatest thing Canada could have ever enjoyed. Look at Notley today. She say why not make a refinery. E**on says we have to many already. Thats why we pay the same for a liter of gas when it is $40 a barrel as when it is $100.
DeleteHi Simon, this could easily be an outlier as Nanos is known to do from time to time. I have been following the poll a lot and I’ve noticed when there’s a change in the “party consider” category, it usually shows up the next week in the popular vote. If that trend continues, look for a drop in the cons and a rise in the Liberals’ votes. They’ll likely be 3 points ahead by 2019. Grenier also pointed out that the Liberals went up in Forum. All that said we need to be extra vigilant going into 2019.
ReplyDeleteHi anon...yes, it could be an outlier, and the elements in it don't fit together well. However there is something troubling about the sudden rise of the Cons in both the Forum and Nanos polls so one can't rule out that some issue has suddenly scared a number of Canadians, and if so I'm pretty sure it would be the "open borders" myth Scheer is blowing out of every orifice.Shoot that down, expose Scheer as a liar, and as you predict, we shall see Scheer sink into the swamp where he belongs....
DeleteBy the way Simon, if you haven't seen this already, you should highlight Supriya Dwivedi's tweet from a couple hours ago in a follow-up post about the Cons' rhetoric on this file:
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/supriyadwivedi/status/1072585333861171201
Time magazine just named Khashoggi and journalists in general ("the guardians," possibly a nod to the British paper of same name) as Person of the Year. I would put this threat to Ms. Dwivedi in a dual category of not just threats to immigrants and people of visible-minority background being riled up by Trump/Con hatred, but threats to journalists as well.
This is absolutely disgusting, and for the rest of the media to not hold Scheer to account on this demonstrates a profound unwillingness to not even have the back of their colleagues. Shame on the Cons and their own fake-news mouthpieces at Postmedia and its attendant tentacles at the national broadcaster. They're fomenting threats of violence against other human beings, and shamelessly disclaiming responsibility by hiding behind "parliamentary opposition" and "editorial opinion."
From Outer Space there are No Borders! Think about it!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen...yes I know, and I am grateful. For if there were bidders around this planet I never would have been able to settle on Earth. Although these days I sometimes think I might have made a terrible mistake...😉
DeleteHi Jackie...as you know, like you I have repeatedly warned about where the violent bigoted threats of Con supporters could lead this country. But apart from a few stories, like the one I linked to in this post, the media have failed to do their civic duty. And the complacency of many Canadians, and their apparent ability to normalize hate, are leading us to a very bad place. I have already made plans with some friends and associates to step up our activities in the new year, and we will see what we can do to expose the Cons and embarrass their filthy leader. I am still very optimistic that Trudeau will bury our Trumplings in the next election...
ReplyDeleteTravner has backed down and will wait. Something about the real estate deal, and the need to find this guy a high paying job does not sit well. The question is why, why him, why the need?
ReplyDeleteJust read Faith Goldy lost the court case against Bell for refusing to run her ads on their station during her run for Mayor of Toronto. Best thing about it, she has to pay Bell $43K and change. Being a "bigot" allegedly, isn't cheap these days.
ReplyDeleteThe sheer smug hypocrisy of Scheer and the Cons.
ReplyDeleteUnder the Harper Cons, Canada led the operation to enforce a "no fly zone" over Libya that destroyed the Great Man Made River Pipe Plant {a war crime} and killed hundreds if not thousands of people in air raids, causing civil breakdown and the subsequent illegal migration of thousands across the Mediterranean to Europe, many drowning in the process. Libya has gone from a viable state to chaos directly through Canadian led military action.
Where is Scheer's outrage at the bogus extradition treaty being used to "strongarm' China by the US whose civil rights record is not "Lily White" with the continued existence of Guantanamo and the daily police shootings of black Americans?
Where is Scheer's outrage at Canada's continued membership in the "5 Eyes"
intelligence organisation that has been described as a "supra-national intelligence organisation that does not answer to the known laws of its own countries"?
That spies on us!!
It seems that we are now being exhorted to hate China now, after the hate Russia campaign that was preceded by the Hate Islam "War on Terror".
Here in Alberta we have the apparent rise of Alberta Separatism.
The right wingnuts are out in force drumming up hatred for "central Canada, Quebec and Trudeau".
We may have the Refugee Health Care Program cutting ex Harper Con Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenny as premier next year.
God punishing Alberta for electing Rachel Notley's ND's perhaps?
Cons are colder than stone!
Weak Andy was on 640 AM, the station where the right rules. So he was complain about how decisive and condescending Trudeau was being about immigration. " Canadians dont want immigration made by Trudeaus celebrity friends" For Trudeau to push back against Canadians anger at this is decisive.
ReplyDeleteAndrew has the worlds best Climate Change plan. We will make more products in Canada using Hydro Electricity. By doing this we will lower the global contribution. Its the best free lunch ever.
Simon, I hope all is well right now and you're having a good holiday. I'm getting worried for Trudeau, what with these yellow-jacket swarms in Alberta literally calling for his head, Andy and Hamster's bot farm dialing the disinfo and fear up to 11, and now this surreal tug of war between Trump and China that oh-so-conveniently has Canada caught in the middle. My sincerest "grown-up Christmas wish" is that all these vile miscreants end up gone in 2019, washed up and relegated to a status as has-beens in the dustbin of history.
ReplyDeleteThe Trump I wished for is emerging. Pulling out of Syria. Cutting off war oxygen to the deep state. No doubt all his flaws are obvious, but no one since JFK has challenged the Deep State.
