Andrew Scheer and the Mad Max Bernier Effect

I think it's safe to say that Andrew Scheer is not the man he used to be. His creepy smile has been replaced by a werewolf snarl.

He's angry, he's desperate, his polls are tanking, some in his party are already talking about quickly replacing him if he loses to Justin Trudeau.

And that old sinking feeling that time is running out, is driving him to new depths of degradation.

So when Trudeau tweeted this to the American late night show host Trevor Noah.

This is how Scheer responded:

Only to be left looking like an idiot when the truth was revealed.

According to one government spokesperson, the money pledged in a tweet to Trevor Noah, who is hosting the Global Citizen Festival in honour of former South African leader Nelson Mandela’s pursuit of ending extreme poverty, is part of the $400 million already announced during the G7 Summit in June to support education for girls.

Or worse, looking like a ghastly misogynist who hates women AND girls.

But then while Scheer's crass tweet was fired in the general direction of Trudeau, it was also aimed at trying to outdo his bitter rival Maxime Bernier...

In a pathetic attempt to convince his own supporters that he is just as much of a right-wing extremist as is Bernier.

And for good reason.

For if this new Leger poll is accurate.

And if Bernier is really at four per cent and climbing, Scheer and his Cons are now in a desperate struggle for survival.

As both him and Bernier fight for the same ugly group of Con supporters...

And since Scheer won't be able to do that, and at the same time attract the more moderate supporters he needs if he is to have any chance of winning the next election.

And since the NDP still appears to be going nowhere, and is in no position to split the Liberal vote

And with millennials, the largest voting bloc in the next election, supporting the Liberals over the Cons by 40% to 19%, it all suggests that Justin Trudeau is heading for another big majority.

With a little help from the Mad Max Bernier effect...

Which should leave Scheer looking like a double loser.

A cowardly right-wing extremist, who has no respect for women and girls.

And definitely NOT a Canadian prime minister...

No wonder they call Scheer #weakandy. What a screamer he is. Somebody needs to take him aside and tell him he’s never going to be Prime Minister, so he can stop crawling through the sewer and telling so many lies.

    1. Hi anon...I have tried to argue why Scheer should never be prime minister, but unfortunately many Canadians are still attracted by his appeal to greed, and don't seem to be bothered by his vicious divisiveness and his never ending lies. I will keep repeating that the man is unfit to be a prime minister, and hope that more Canadians eventually come to the same conclusion....

Those two right wing idiots don't understand that educating girls is the way to lift countries out of poverty and while they're at it helping the environment. The more educated girls are, the later in life they marry and start families. With an exploding population, keeping the world's population down is a good thing. When girls have decent educations they understand what a democracy is and may want to change how their countries are governed. They will want to avoid polluting their environment to ensure their children have better lives. When girls have higher education, they can provide more necessary services to the people of their own countries, such as being medical professionals, police officers, teachers, researchers. Try to think of educating girls as a way to save the planet.

    1. HI e.a.f...I will never understand how the Cons can object to Canada helping girls and young women to overcome the obstacles that are placed in their path all over the world. So I applaud all the reasons you mention and have nothing but contempt for Scheer and his religious fanatics who would diminish the lives of women for no good reason...

    2. Here's the thing: Let private citizens donate THEIR OWN money to whatever charities they wish. "Canada" (i.e., taxpayers coerced by the State) doing it =/= compassion or generosity.

Scheer’s contempt for women stems from his hardline religious beliefs. He believes, like Harper did, that women must be submissive, and preferably stay at home barefoot and pregnant. He can’t even use the word “women’s rights.” But women have long memories, and when voting day arrives they will punish him by throwing that sexist pig out of office.

    1. Hi anon....yes, religious fanaticism is what motivates Scheer and his inner circle above all things. Harper's church specifically spelled it out: women should be "submissive." My reaction to that is unprintable. But hopefully you are right, and women supported by decent men will throw those sexist pigs out of office...

I'm getting worried here. I don't know if you will talk about it, but with yesterday's by-election in Leeds-Grenville riding, the conservatives were able to maintain by a strong margin (compared to the last election where the liberals nearly won it). Would this mean that it's a sign that conservatives will win the next election?

Its not unusual for a by-election because the Liberals have a clear majority so their supporters are not motivated to turn out and vote. The problem is that the Con's continuous attack on Trudeau keeps their base highly motivated to vote in the next election while sowing the seeds of doubt in the minds of other voters which could cause them to either stay at home or vote split on other alternatives. Its likely safe to assume that the Con base were highly motivated in the last election and have not grown in numbers so their only route to power is sowing enough doubt to keep Trudeau leaning voters at home or vote for the Green, NDP, or Bloc. The fail safe antidote is if voters recognize Scheer as the same clear and present danger that Harper represented. Although many of the wounds are still there and they could be used to motivate liberal supporters its unlikely Trudeau will play that game so we have to hope the NDP stays weak and Mad Mad steals some of the Con base. Hopefully it will come to pass that four years of non stop targeted political assignation will be flushed down the drain along with weak Andy and the Reformatory->Alliance->Crap party! It certainly would not hurt for any liberal friendly media to remind voters of the nasty Harper era and if anything the Con party has gotten worse as there is no realistic platform constrained by Canadian law or rudiments of democracy where all citizens are treated as equals.

Anon 6:48, I wouldn't be too worried. This riding which is largely rural is a Con stronghold thanks to the late Gord Brown who was for the most part a decent guy and one of the few remaining true Conservatives who stood up to Harper when he was slashing the PS.
I wish I could say the same for the winner, Michael Barrett, who is already parroting Scheers twisted version of JT's tweet to Trevor Noah.
Scheer was so proud of his new addition that he called to congratulate him and thanked him for not letting the facts get in the way.

    3. Hi anon...both RT and JD have give you some very good reasons why if you really are a progressive you shouldn't worry. So I would only add that if you look at that Leger poll the number of millennials who support the Cons is roughly half the number who support the Liberals. The next election will be the first one where the millennials outnumber the boomers, so I am confident the Cons will be taught a lesson they'll never forget...

  5. It sick how they take everything JT does and make it a hanging offence. It was great for Canada's brand for JT to tweet. Fuck off media. Right now Doug Ford has been accused of meddling with the highest Police choice in Ontario. If Trudeau had the same optics in the hireing of the cleaning staff there would be calls for resignation. But the National Disgrace et all defend Doug.

    1. Hi Steve ...yes it is disgusting how the Cons and their bought media try to demonize Trudeau, and degrade politics in this country. Part of the reason is that by making politics look so dirty they hope to suppress the vote of decent people, who they hope will throw up their hands in disgust and withdraw into their own lives. The challenge for progressives is to convince those Canadians that if we stick to our values, and fight for them, we can all build a better world for ourselves and our children...

  6. The term moderate Conservative is now an oxymoron. It should be noted that the last two standing at the last Conservative leadership convention was a social conservative and a libertarian. The only real moderate, Michael Chong, barely registered and he is invisible in the Conservative caucus. Even those erstwhile "moderate Conservatives" Ms. Raitt and Ms. Rempel have gone full on Trumpian.

Any moderate conservative that might have looked at the Conservatives as an alternative to the Liberals is probably wondering what they are going to do next Fall.

It is just my impression but Mr. Singh looks like someone who has a great deal of buyers remorse in winning the leadership of the NDP. It would not surprise me that he is attempting to engineer his departure from the position. It is the only explanation I can find for his insistance on running in a by-election in a riding that is not a safe NDP riding.

    1. Hi Ottlib....Yes, I'm afraid you're right, the term moderate Conservative is now an oxymoron. For years after Harper came to power I hoped that the Progressive Conservative party would rise from the dead, and chase the Reformers out of Ottawa. But it never happened, and never will unless the Harper Party is absolutely humiliated. So if there are progressive Conservatives out there they should know who to support. As for the NDP, I've almost given up on them as well, even though they are the only party I have ever voted for. I dream of the day progressives finally unite into a grand coalition, and work together to defeat the common enemy instead of fighting each other....

Not just misogyny but racism, how about that. How low can Afrikaner Andy get? Griping about a pledge to help young black girls get an education, made at an event to honor Nelson Mandela! The party of Diefenbaker is indeed dead.

    1. Hi Jackie...I know how can those Con bastards defile a project that would enhance the wonderful legacy of Nelson Mandela. But the Con dog whistles are blowing so strongly these days I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They are misogynists AND racists and they must and will be defeated...

Far be it for Scheer to commend JT for doing Canada's part in helping oppressed females let alone that they're not white. This double whammy must be hard for the bigoted misogynist to comprehend.
His tweets are becoming more and more inane or more precisely, Trumpian as his desperation grows and he lashes out at JT for just about everything he does.
These tweets will play well to his ignorant, JT hating base but now you have Mad Max vying for those deplorables as well so let's hope they split the shit pile right down the middle.

  9. Hi JD...you're right, Scheer's tweets are becoming more irrational and more Trumpian with every passing day. As I pointed out in my post, I believe the main reason is that he is terrified that some of his bigot support will abandon him and go join the Bernier party. I have to wait for other polls to see how legitimate that threat is, but if it keeps heading the way it seems to be going, the Cons are facing virtual extinction. And won't that be wonderful to behold...🌝

  10. I'm anti-racism and a big Bernier fan. Cuz he's not racist. Smearing him as such only displays massive ignorance and deep-seated soy-boy prejudice.
