The Liar Donald Trump And The Corruption Of The Cons
He's always been a liar. A firm believer in the old saying that a lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.
But during the midterm election campaign he has been outdoing himself.
In the first nine months of his presidency, Trump made 1,318 false or misleading claims, an average of five a day. But in the seven weeks leading up the midterm elections, the president made 1,419 false or misleading claims — an average of 30 a day.
And what is now only too clear is that it takes two to play that dirty game. The monster himself, and the Republican Party.
Which as Paul Krugman writes, is now a party defined by its lies.
At this point the G.O.P.’s campaign message consists of nothing but lies; it’s hard to think of a single true thing Republicans are running on.
And the total dishonesty of Republican electioneering should itself be a decisive political issue, because at this point it defines the party’s character.
A party that like its ghastly leader lies about everything, but hammers home two main themes:
They lie about their agenda, pretending that their policies would help the middle and working classes when they would, in fact, do the opposite. And they lie about the problems America faces, hyping an imaginary threat from scary dark-skinned people and, increasingly, attributing that threat to Jewish conspirators.
And by so doing has corrupted all those who support it...
The crucial thing to realize is that these aren’t just ugly, destructive lies. Beyond that, they shape the G.O.P.’s nature. It is now impossible to have intellectual integrity and a conscience while remaining a Republican in good standing.
For we’re not just talking about a party selling bad ideas on false pretenses. The addiction to lies has also — let’s be blunt — turned it into a party of bad people.
Which is of course the same thing we can say about the Cons in this country, whose leader also lies like a thief...
A sweaty fibber who likes to smear or Schmear his opponents.
And is still claiming that Canadians are desperate for change...
Even as his polls go down, down, down.
But here's the ironic part.
By lying so shamelessly Scheer is not only revealing the depth of his personal corruption.
He is also showing why his Cons are the Trump Party of Canada...
And for that reason alone are unfit to govern this country.
Don't let their lies confuse Canadians, say it loud and proud.
The Cons are bad people, and the truth will destroy them...
Lugenpresse. That was the word Goebbels and Hitler used to attack the free press in Germany. In English it's translated as two words - 'fake' and 'news.' Trump is no Hitler but he sure works from the same playbook.
ReplyDeleteThen there's the bilingual pun on the fakest of all fake news outlets: Faux News. The core of "modern" conservatism is projection, more than an IMAX theater showing movies on the surface of the moon. That and pure selfishness: the advertising slogan for Trump's ill-fated ripoff of Monopoly (a game invented by a socialist, originally intended to be an educational demonstration that the bankers always win) was "it's not whether you win or lose, it's whether you WIN." Lying, cheating, even murdering -- it's all fair game as long as you own the libs.
DeleteHi anon@3:11 PM...I like to remind people that according to his first wife, Trump kept a copy of Hitler's speeches on his bedside table. His affection for tyrants is well known, and one can only wonder what tyrant he models himself after...
DeleteHi Jackie...Projection does seem to be a big part of the Cons. The Scheer Cons also do it all the time. Accuse others of what they are doing. I believe Goebbels was also a firm believer in that, so the Cons are in good company...
DeleteThe M$M sure doesn't help matters with their bothsider approach that muddies the waters and presents outright lies as a mere "difference of opinion." Who could forget CNN's atrocious chyron "Alt-right leader questions if Jews are people." What's sorely needed is to de-platform the right-wing obfuscators like the BBC did with climate-change denialists. They have just as much culpability in creating this monster. Hate deserves no oxygen, and reality has a liberal bias. The problem that seems to be difficult if not impossible to overcome is addressing the elephant in the room, capitalism itself. Lying and generating outrage gets clicks and ratings and sells ads. Social responsibility appears incompatible with the "free market of ideas" and the perpetual outrage machine that pads someone's bottom line. The bullshit-industrial complex. "Eat your dirty laundry."
ReplyDeleteWell, you are constantly down on socialists, who are the ones addressing the elephant in the room.
DeleteWe wouldn't have healthcare here without its introduction by the CCF, the ancestor of the NDP.
Yes, the Marlborough man is free to express his opinion on all the benefits tobacco has provided him but when news sources constantly repeat and embellish on those expressions it falls into a different category. As a minimum we need to start rating news sources on the percentage actual news vs opinion and overall bias. As the scale slips towards opinion total money sources going into producing those opinion pieces needs to be disclosed.

Hi Lagatta...I don't think Jackie is constantly down on socialists. She is fierce opponent of the fascists who threaten us all. And the ones all progressives should be fighting instead of fighting themselves...
DeleteHi Jackie...capitalism is the elephant in the room, and we need to get beyond that because it's clear that the uncontrolled version is helping to torch the planet. And if it can't be radically reformed, it must be replaced with a more equal, just, and sustainable system. At least that's the theory...
DeleteIn Toronto the far far far Right voice of Steve Bannon will debate the far far right voice of David Frum, and they call it a debate.
ReplyDeleteNot much of a productive debate.

No more productive than these idiotic "It's ok to be white" signs in Ottawa:
Deletehttps://ottawacitizen.com/trending/its-okay-to-be-white-signs-appear-in-ottawa-2
Posters proclaiming “It’s okay to be white” were reported at downtown Ottawa intersections Thursday morning, a year after they first appeared on streets and campuses across the continent.
Bannon looks more purple than white, actually.
I've seen picture so of him, where his face is pretty red, also. He most likely has rosacea. there are remedies for that, but not for the hate he spews. Rosacea does not effect your brain, but who knows perhaps he has had an infection which has travelled. its hard to tell, but the man clearly has a set of views which do not bode well for the majority of people in the world. That is what some of these racists need to remember, they are the minority.
DeleteIt is true, its O.K. to be white but that doesn't make it some master race. Its O,K. to be any colour you are born. Now many who declare, "its O.K. to be white', ought to realize a lot of the world's wars, nastiness was caused by "whites" from Europe or descendants of Europe, so try to think of colour as simply a matter of genetics and has nothing to do with who or what you are.
Bannon might want to understand once the shit hits the fan, the "true financial elites" will leave him on the other side of the gate. He will have served his purpose and can die. Many who support Trump and even Trump himself are no use to the 1% of 1%ers when push comes to shove.
some of these self important idiots might want to understand if Bilderberg were to have to decide who makes the cut it will be the scientists, doctors, the brain trust of the world, some to do the heavy lifting and themselves. Trump and Bannon will not be on the last bus out of town. They serve no useful purpose beyond keeping people divided. as the old saying goes, in tough times you can get half the working class to kill the other half of the working class. if you work for some one, you're the working class regardless of how much money you have.
Its okay to be white. I am white. They are tapping into something primal, tribalism. I give you two examples. PK Subban who I admire is called the most important man in hockey, mainly because he is black. The new movie I want to watch about D day called overlord has a black charater at the center of the battle. Thats a historical lie. You cant whitewash everything to make black people more important. I contrast this with imitation game. A true story of a Gay man who may have singlehandly saved us from Nazi domination. If we start making up stuff
Deleteit only feeds the tribal leaders who want to divide us.
Hi Steve...Well if you're white it must be OK 😉But seriously I don't think PK Subban is called the most important man in hockey because he's black. I think it's because he's a great hockey player, and a model citizen...
DeleteHi e.a.f....I believe that white people with red hair are the master race. 😼 But I'm not interested in listening to anything that Steve Bannon has to say. As far as I'm concerned he's just an intellectual Nazi peddling the same old shit under a different name. Bannon is a multimillionaire, and every time I hear him talking about the working class I don't know whether to laugh or vomit...
