Ezra Levant and the Slow Death of The Rebel
As everybody knows Ezra Levant is Andrew Scheer's favourite right-wing YouTube host.
Although relations have been strained ever since Scheer was forced to pretend he hardly knew Levant.
And ran off with the co-founder of The Rebel, Hamish Marshall.
Leaving Levant bobbing up and down in his own excrement, and The Rebel sinking like the Titanic.
For as Canadian Cynic, who was recently suspended from Twitter for no good reason, reports. Levant's predicament couldn't be more dire.
As recently as May 2017 Alexa.com ranked the Rebel 1818th among Canadian websites in terms of traffic. These days Ezra's AV alt-right club is down to number 3,451 and sinking.
Further grinding the Rebel's gears, a boycott by Sleeping Giants, the anti-racist buzzkill collective which claims to have driven 3,700 online advertisers away from fake news stalwart Breitbart, and 576 from its dumber Canadian cousin.
Not only is his traffic tanking, not only is less money coming in, and all those losing lawsuits costing him a bundle.
The bestial Levant and his hate mongering site are also being publicly humiliated.
How radioactive has the Rebel site become? A Christmas fundraiser for military families at CFB Borden raised 15,000 -- but the base, after a quick googling of its source declined the cheque. ( The Rebel is, sans doubt, in the process of returning the dosh to its original donors.)
Then there is the fate of Levant's monster home, which recently had to be placed on the market.
The 8,000 square-foot pile, designed by Robin Nadel, features a finished basement, two family rooms, five bedrooms, eight (!) bathrooms, heated floors and intriguingly a "secret library." Poetically, for the veteran astroturfed, Ezra's backyard is covered with a durable carpet of artificial grass. Fake news, fake lawn.
Can you believe it?
The house that all those suckers built, and now this could be the scene in any one of those EIGHT washrooms...
But then who can be surprised?
Levant and the Rebel are finally being flushed.
And for having consorted with them so disgustingly, and polished Levant's bigot ass for so long.
We'll make sure that Andrew Scheer and his filthy Cons go down with them...
This makes me happy. I missed that Rebel story where Menzies told the rebels that nobody would accept the cheque. The responses by the readership is hilarious and short. I expected way more of them to chime in. Now they hate the military! You couldn't script this better! Loons.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe...I also missed this story, but I always found it hard to believe that the military would accept money from anybody let alone the bigot Rebel. So Like you I found the reactions hilarious. Of course, I don't believe that Levant thought the military would accept his money either, so I really want to know what he plans to do with that $15,000. Not build another washroom I hope...🙄
DeleteI still listen to CFRB. Cause there is intelligence there. For sure they are right ALt at heart. However today I was blown away at an opinion given on a panel. The topic was that Canada is number two in the world behind Swizterland on everything that is groovy. One panalist said that it has always been this way lead by Stephen Harper (I slight mischaracatrizon). No one said are you fucking out of your mind.
ReplyDeleteHi Steve...are you sure tha they weren't talking about a survey released at Davos that Canada is seen as the country with the most positive influence on the world? If you add you, and me, and the other readers of this blog to that, would it really be a surprise if we were also thought of as extremely groovy? On the other hand how did those boring clock makers make number one???? ðŸ˜
DeleteI've noticed how diminished the Rebel is looking, but it's good to know that Levant is also struggling. I wonder how many of its lowlife supporters realize what kind of a palace they have been building for their "Rebel Commander?" In my opinion Levant and the Rebel are begging to be audited.
ReplyDeleteHi anon...I have been calling for years for the CRA to audit the Rebel. And after reading about Levant's monster house I am even more convinced that an audit is necessary. Levant has always struck me as a huckster and I can't believe his mouth breathing supporters never seem to ask for a proper accounting. I'd like to see him jailed for hate mongering, but a fraud conviction would please me almost as much...
DeleteI don't know what CRA's problem is. They should have been looking into the 'deep pockets and foreign special interests' of Ethical Oil long ago, let alone The Rebel now. White nationalism has become normalized to the point where Marshall is in charge of Scheer's communications, Kay and other White Nationalist Post writers like Ivison now are hoisted by the 'liberal' media, appearing on CBC daily. I guess if the Conservative party think tank Fraser Institute can't get away with their scam, why can't The Rebel?
Deletehi Jim....I completely agree with you. Ethical Oil was where Levant and Marshall first teamed up, and it was obvious that foreign money was fuelling it. But as we know the Harperites made sure the CRA went after other targets like those poor birdwatchers. And as you say white nationalism has become normalized to such an extent that Marshall is now the campaign manager of the Cons, and nobody in our rotten media thinks that there is anything wrong with that. Also am I the only one who thinks that the Fraser Institute is becoming even more active than usual? And when I wonder are they going to be audited to see how much money are they now getting from groups like the Koch brothers?
DeleteHow nice to see the cancerous rebel slowly dying as the forces of good attack it from all sides. How long Ezra irreLevant carries on now will depend on how much money his secret benefactors keep funneling to him. Maybe they have finally realized how toxic the rebel is and seeing that the Cons already have the MSM in their corner, they are now devoting their efforts towards Post Mortem Media.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the cause may be, the end of the rebel can't come soon enough. The day Ezra and his empire of hate are destroyed will be a day worthy of celebration.
JD
Hi JD...the Rebel is so much less than it once was, but as you point out Levant has secret benefactors. Some of them may have cut off their funds after the Nazi debacle, but for others anti-Muslim/anti-Trudeau propaganda will always be worth financing. So I think it will take another major scandal for the Rebel to be brought to its knees. On the other hand its supporters aren't getting any younger, so there's always that to look forward to...☠
DeleteI hope they all end up in prison for aiding and abetting criminal harassment and threats of violence against the Prime Minister and his family. And also for Jack Posobiec's meddling with the French elections by publishing the phony, Russian-originated "Macron Leaks"; for Lauren Southern's helping out the right-wing European youth terrorists sabotaging refugee-rescue ships off the coast of the Mediterranean; for Faith Goldy's shit-disturbing at Charlottesville and promulgating of "14 Words" propaganda; for numerous "cast members" smearing the Muslim community by painting the Québec mosque shooting as a "false flag"; for Gavin McInnes' rape apologism, founding of the Proud Boys hate group that harassed First Nations demonstrators in Halifax, and anti-Semitic hatemongering in of all places Israel; and for Ezra's own long and deplorable history of lending a platform to hatred — including the hatred he himself spews out.
ReplyDeleteA cursory glance at Ezra's Wikipedia entry reveals that this behavior goes back all the way to 1990 when he was still in college. In the interest of "free speech," he invited the defense lawyer, Doug Christie, representing two notorious Holocaust deniers Ernst Zündel and Paul Fromm, to give a talk on "defending the indefensible." He has given free airtime to the silver-tongued transphobic pied piper Jordan Peterson, who is creating a hostile environment for his colleagues at U of Toronto and willfully misrepresenting both the letter and spirit of Bill C-16 to build his own cult of celebrity among the alt-right, at a time when anti-LGBT hate crimes and hostility towards academics and activists are exponentially on the rise in Canada. He has been using Rebel videos to harass the family of the 11-year-old Muslim girl who told a tall story about the (thankfully) nonexistent hijab attack, and for what else to raise blood money by fomenting an Internet lynch mob against this kid.
They all belong behind bars, every last one of them, Peterson and Scheer included. Internet companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter, and whoever is the server host and domain registrar behind therebel dot media and Marshall's plethora of fake-news websites, need to step up their game and scrub every last kilobyte of Rebel-originated and Rebel-affiliated hate speech off their platforms once and for all. Hate deserves no oxygen. Hate deserves to be driven back under the troll bridge and quarantined like the toxic disease it is.
Hi Jackie...if Canada had the same anti-hate laws Britain has Levant would have been jailed long ago or driven out of business. But unfortunately Canadians were influenced by the American free/hate speech arguments, and the Harperites killed Section 13 which helped restrain the hate mongers, so now our country has Nazi groups running wild all over the place. The good news is that the Trudeau government is thinking of bringing back Section 13, and hopefully we can get serious about fighting hate again. For as you say, hate deserves no oxygen, and if left unchecked it will poison our society...
DeleteWhat I want to know is why we have to get our news about the Rebel from Frank Magazine instead of from the MSM. It's another example of how out of touch the Con media is from the real lives of Canadians. In the U.S. a story about a racist cult leader building himself a mansion with eight washrooms would have attracted a lot of media attention, but here nothing. What's wrong with this country?
ReplyDeleteA racist cult leader built himself an empire of failed casinos, gaudy hotels, child beauty pageants, and reality television with help from Russian mob money... and we elected him president.
DeleteAt least you're not there. I hope you never are.
Hi Anon 3:40pm...I share your frustration. Under normal circumstances I would never use Frank as a source for anything. But to their credit they have always been Levant's nemesis, while our Con media have bent backwards trying to normalize Levant and his racist goons. We need serious investigative reports on Levant's hate mongering empire, and how it's run and financed...
DeleteHi Jackie...yes, I suppose we should remember that all things are relative, and that although this country isn't perfect we're a long way from Trumpland. Thank goodness... :)
Deleteheated floors
ReplyDeleteActually this may indicate that Ezra is not as demented as the Orange Cheetoh. It can be a very good heating choice.
@ Anonymous 3:40 PM
a story about a racist cult leader building himself a mansion with eight washrooms would have attracted a lot of media attention,
You're joking? This is considered the poor, poverty-striken pastor's hut among most of the really nutty fundies.
Twenty bedrooms, any number of bathrooms, a helipad (and helicopter) just begins to raise an eyebrow south of the border. And, unfortunately I am not being that sarcastic.
Hi jrkrideau... I realize that by the standards of U.S. evangelical leaders, Levant's mansion might look like a shepherd's hut. And I know how those nutty fundies get their money since I have over the years been woken up by a long message from Benny Hill asking for donations !!#@!!
DeleteBut Levant is only the "Rebel Commander" of a tacky YouTube site, so EIGHT washrooms are excessive ... ;)
Benny Hill? Wow, wait I must have the wrong Benny Hill or was he canvassing for money for Rotton Tomatoes.
DeleteI used to love listening to "Dr. Gene Scott" on shortwave when I could not sleep. For the first year or so I thought he was a Poe but apparently not. His hour-long rants demanding money were boring but his pyramidology and learned discussions on the lost tribes of Israelites was fascinating. I'd say brilliant and totally mad.
Simon, is there any way we could find out where that $15,000 eventually ended up? If we could show that the money wasn't returned to the donors but used for something else, we could highlight the results and hopefully someone in the MSM (I know it would be a stretch for that to happen)would show where the money went.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the Rebel internet meme or fad has progressed beyond its best before date and the novelty of expounding the offensive rather than the old fashioned frustration release of kicking the dog has started to wear off. The turning point for the Rebel seems to be the Charlottesville supremacist rally and terrorist ending where early adopters and sheep like followers decided this was not fun anymore and started to move on. Seems some decided to move on to slightly more respectable media outlets but once addicted to edgy offensive fads hopefully more will take the Pod challenge. We will know the Rebel fad is definitely dead when Hamish and the Smearmonger decide to resign in order to spend more time with their families. The possibility of the Trumpkin fad meeting the same end is uncertain now that Melania is starting to look like a flight risk.
ReplyDeleteRT
Hi RT... You may be right about the Rebel. I spend a fair amount of time combing through the comment sections of that filthy rag looking for death threats to on pass to the police. Somebody has to do it. :( And I've noticed that many stories have less comments than even this humble blog. So there are signs that many followers are abandoning him. My guess is that his never-ending begging has driven many of them to distraction. As well as the fact that the Rebel sometimes seems to be aimed more at Britain than at what's happening here. However, we live in a dangerous time, and if Canada should face a flood of migrants seeking to escape being deported from the U.S. the Rebel could rise again. But the good news is that as long as it's around it can be used to attack Scheer and his buddy Hamish Marshall. And needless to say I intend to take full advantage of that opportunity... ;)
DeleteI find the story about Levant's house interesting in light of how his minions went after Theresa Spence claiming she was sucking off people whilst living the good life in a nice big house. I've worked in close proximity to a few FN reserves in the past and recall wondering what the hell he was getting on about every time he would raise the issue. You can only sustain anger and vitriol for so long before it reaches a tipping point, I suppose. Nice to see that more and more people are waking up.
ReplyDeletehi Way Way Up....yes, I remember that too, and how disgusted I was by those attacks. Levant help stoked the flames of anti-First Nations bigotry to a point that the CBC doesn't dare run a comment page on any FN story. A lot of people have forgotten that fact, but I haven't, and every time I think about it I get really really angry. Levant's filthy hate mongering rag has been normalized by too many in the media, even though hate crimes have more than tripled in the last couple of years. And in five days time we will be marking the anniversary of that mosque massacre in Quebec City, that Levant and his scumbags tried to blame on Muslims, instead of the killer a white supremacist, who was probably inspired by some of the garbage he read in the Rebel. They are vile, they are evil, and we can't destroy them soon enough...
DeleteI should add too that my young nephew is a proud CF member. If any Levant supporters want to use this event to disparage our military they should either pick up a weapon and stand next to our service members or take a seat and shut the hell up!
ReplyDeleteHi Way Way Up...This too is unbelievable. First they insult the honour of the soldiers at Camp Borden, and then when the military refuses their tainted gift, they turn against them. I know what Seb's soldier friends would like to do to Levant, but I can't tell you because it's not pretty... ;)
Deletehi Yvonne...there is unfortunately no way we can find out where that $15,000 ended up. Our only hope is that the CRA finally takes an interest in Levant and the Rebel and conducts a thorough audit. But as you know the CRA has other priorities, so unless we can convince them that the nutbars at the Rebel are actually birdwatchers, we're probably out of luck...
ReplyDeleteWhy we didn't hear about the 8 bathroom mansion? Perhaps because at some level The Rebel provided a "service" for some that the msm couldn't. Now that it is clear those services will no longer be needed, at least for now, it is best to separate themselves from the Rebel and its owner. However, we ought to remain alert because things like this always come back......
ReplyDeleteI would think that 8 washrooms is the bare minimum Levant should have in his house, no matter the size.
Deletehi e.a.f....I knew that Levant was building himself a big house, after having lived in his parent's basement for years, but I had no idea it was THAT big. And all I can say is that the "Rebel Commander" definitely has delusions of grandeur, and I wouldn't trust him as far as I can spit...
DeleteHi Filcher...you know it's funny, I used to portray the Rebel as an outhouse. I guess some things get bigger, but don't really change. On the other hand, maybe Levant was planning to turn his house into a bed and breakfast. And for a suitable donation his idiot supporters could get to spend a night under the same roof as the Rebel Commander. OMG no, forget I ever said that....

ReplyDeleteI actually think ezra is an undercover liberal trying to make people violent against the so called left, so the liberals can have something to use against the conservatives and keep themselves in power.Very smart indeed!
