For about four days before he abruptly fired FBI director James Comey, Donald Trump practically disappeared from public view.
Later he'd claim the reason he fired Comey was because "he wasn't doing a good job."
And that his decision had absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that Comey wanted to step up the FBI's investigation into the Trump mob's alleged links with Putin's Russia.
Claim he was just doing what others had recommended.
Or just doing what a good
But sadly for Trump, when the media found out what had really been going on inside the White House, and inside his head, it turns out he had been acting like a madman.
President Donald Trump weighed firing his FBI director for more than a week. When he finally pulled the trigger Tuesday afternoon, he didn’t call James Comey. He sent his longtime private security guard to deliver the termination letter in a manila folder to FBI headquarters.
He had grown enraged by the Russia investigation, two advisers said, frustrated by his inability to control the mushrooming narrative around Russia. He would sometimes scream at television clips about the probe, one adviser said.
It was all about the Russians.
And to make matters worse, now he's changed his story and claims that firing Comey was all his idea..
Leaving his top advisers, and vice-president Mike Spence, looking like idiots.
While Trump himself was humiliated by the acting FBI director.
Acting FBI director Andrew McCabe on Thursday rejected the Trump White House’s characterization of the Russian meddling probe as a low priority and delivered a passionate defense of former director James B. Comey — putting himself squarely at odds with the president while the bureau’s future hangs in the balance.
And trolled by the Russians
The White House did not anticipate that the Russian government would allow its state news agency to post photographs of an Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russia's ambassador to the US, a White House official said.
"They tricked us," an angry White House official said. "That's the problem with the Russians -- they lie," the official added.
And yes, enough is enough.
The Russian chess master and political activist Garry Kasparov once warned where we were going...
And I think with Trump we are already there.
James Comey apparently told some of his associates that he believed the orange oaf was “outside the realm of normal,” even “crazy.”
By firing him Trump has only proved him right.
He really is crazy.
President Trump on Friday warned James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director he fired this week, against leaking anything negative about the president and warned the news media that he may cancel all future White House briefings.
He has finally crossed the line.
And his chances of getting impeached, or worse, have never looked better...
Arrest.
ReplyDeleteYou can't be serious, Simon. Impeachment requires that a majority of the House AND two-thirds of the Senate vote to find Trump guilty of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
ReplyDeleteI hardly need remind you that both the House and the Senate are in Republican hands. And despite everything we've seen so far, here's the most important line from the latest Quinnipiac poll:
Do you approve or disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as President? — 82% favorability rating from Republican voters
As long as Republican voters back Trump with numbers like that, he’s going to be in office. The GOP will not pursue a special prosecutor, and they certainly will not pursue impeachment. To do so would be a death sentence in 2018.
Well the Repubs love the power they have now, but if Trump keeps going on being publicly crazy, enough of them may feel that they need to get rid of him before he takes them down.
DeleteI think it is just starting to hit a lot of Americans what the repeal of the ACA would mean. Apparently a lot of them did not realize Obamacare == ACA.
And since all or almost all Republican members of Congress and Senate are in favour they may need someone to throw out the back of the troika (to maintain a Russian flavour) to distract their constituents.
And if there are continued alarms and rumours about the Russians the American paranoia about Russia may start eroding support for the Orange one.
hi anon... while Trump still enjoys the support of his most loyal and dumbest supporters, he has lost the support of many independents, and those in his working class base who feel betrayed by his ghastly Trumpcare. More importantly a good number of moderate Republicans in Congress are starting to fear that Trump's record low poll numbers could drag them down. And once that fear becomes generalized they'll vote to impeach the orange oaf quicker than you can say Mike Pence....
Deletehi jrkrideau...I think you're right. The Republicans may enjoy the power they have now, but the moment Trump starts to threaten their re-election chances they be quick to cut him loose. Personally, I don't think Trump will be evicted that way. I think he'll see the writing on the wall, and resign before he's forced out. But at the rate he is going I would be very surprised to see him last a full year...
DeleteTrump's low approval numbers include Dims and Indies. The GOP doesn't give a dog fart about them. As long as the pig people continue to back Trump - and they do at over 80% - Trump is gold. The pig people have already being programmed by hate radio, Fox News and their pastors to blame any lack of health coverage on Obamacare, which "everyone knows was failing." Anyone who says otherwise is "fake news."
DeleteThe only way to get Trump impeached is to get Dim voters out in 2018. And they'll need to get a lot of them out to overcome the massive vote suppression efforts the GOP's got planned. The GOP has shown time and again that they will always put party and donors ahead of country.
Well Simon, if a picture is worth a thousand words, the one with Trump and the Russian Foreign Minister and Ambassador looks absolutely diabolical.
ReplyDeleteRG
hi RG...yes, there's something about that photo. The Russians seem to be having a great time, while Trump looks mildly confused. But then who can be surprised? He's swimming in the deep end of the shark tank, and he doesn't know what he's doing...

I love that. If you don't allow US reporters in but you do allow TASS reporters/photographers in , duh. Did the White House get a promise not to post photos, photos that probably are pretty valuable to Lavarow on the home scene? I bet not. I mean, TASS is in Russia. They probably don't even speak English over there!
It is the absolutely frightening level of incompetence that we have come to expect from White House staff.
Is that aircraft carrier heading for Greenland or Australia.
NY AG is preparing a RICO case. Bye, trump.
ReplyDeletehi jrkrideau....As I've said before, Trump's White House is such a lunatic asylum it makes me question my own sanity. And did you hear the latest on that story? Now some are wondering whether the Russians might have bugged the Oval Office. If as Kasparov says, the Trumplings are trying to exhaust our critical thinking, they're doing a pretty good job....
ReplyDeleteLouise Mensch (aka "Unhinged British witch") is going at Rebel media on twitter right now, check it out.
ReplyDeleteOh, Rebel Media, Rebel Media. Who doesn't love Rebel Media? Canada's own version of Hatebart. Ezra Levant, their Steve Goebbels, who I call Libel Suit Larry. He is a disgusting little creep who's skated along for long enough just losing civil cases, but has finally gone too far. He needs to be investigated for aiding and abetting the French Election hacks. Him and Posobiec both belong being roommates in the same cell at the Bastille. What was it his torch-and-pitchfork trolls shouted at Premier Notley? "Lock her up"? Yeah, OK bub. You first.
DeleteUnbelievable, as usual Trump-land.
ReplyDeleteCompletely on the side.. James Comey is 6' 8". Interesting angle if one were to incorporate that into a political cartoon.
As one of my US relatives pointed out, one year to impeachment if we follow Nixon timeline.
TS
p.s. Missed your posts as I was dealing with personal heart breaking loss. Glad to have my staples in life. Montreal Simon. is close to my heart. I have some catch up reading to do :-)
Hi TS...how nice to hear from you again. And I'm very sorry to hear that you have been through a sad time. I hope that you are recovering, and that Spring will help heal you. I am bit wounded myself, and unable to write much after a motorcycle accident. But I'm hoping to recover soon. Life can be awfully painful sometimes, but it's the price of being human, and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. All the best....
DeleteNice to have you back and sorry for your loss TS.

"Trump's White House is such a lunatic asylum it makes me question my own sanity."
ReplyDeleteSame here Simon. If I keep shaking my head over this clown president I'll surely need a neck brace.
Spicey hiding in the bushes, KellyAnne reappears with a fresh load of manure, etc. etc. etc.
The clock is ticking down on this circus as The Donald is frothing at the mouth with white hot rage, screaming at the TV and probably babbling to himself.
Predicting the end is difficult but he will not survive this. The more the GOP enable him the more likely they'll lose control in 2018.
I pray it wont take that long.
JD
Fairly early in the News of the World débâcle, I heard an interview with an author/reporter say that if he had proposed a book with such a plot to his publisher he would have been told it was too fantastic a plot to fly. It got much worse after that.
DeleteI think we can say that the same view with Robb Ford whose careening around was unbelievable for staid Toronto.
We are now getting an even more deranged story. Heck, Caligula was a rather dull character by contrast with Donald
"They tricked us"???
ReplyDeleteWell that was easy. How about 'you were willing dupes'?
If that's all it takes to trick the Trumpsters, it's far worse than I thought.
