How Can We Get Rid Of Donald Trump?

Donald Trump has now been president for a full month, and already his presidency seems to be falling apart.

His ratings are falling like a stone, psychiatrists can't decide whether he's mentally ill or just senile.

And the Swedes are wondering what he's been smoking.

So the obvious question is, how can we get rid of him?

For as Nicolas Kristof writes, never has a president acted so dangerously crazy. And never have so many wanted a president impeached so soon.

We’re just a month into the Trump presidency, and already so many are wondering: How can we end it? One poll from Public Policy Polling found that as many Americans — 46 percent — favor impeachment of President Trump as oppose it.

Ladbrokes, the betting website, offers even odds that Trump will resign or leave office through impeachment before his term ends.

But while it's possible that Trump's mental state could trigger section 4 of the 25th amendment.

The 25th Amendment route is to be used when a president is “unable” to carry out his duties. I asked Laurence Tribe, the Harvard professor of constitutional law, whether that could mean not just physical incapacity, but also mental instability. Or, say, the taint of having secretly colluded with Russia to steal an election?

Tribe said that he believed Section 4 could be used in such a situation.

Whether or not he's impeached depends upon the mental state of the Republicans. And like most Cons they care more about themselves than they do about their country.

“The only incentive for Republicans to act — with or without the cabinet — is the same incentive Republicans had in 1974 to insist on Nixon’s resignation,” Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia told me. “The incentive is survival.”

So it might be difficult, but not impossible.

Not if he's arrested for treason.

And not if the Republicans finally understand where he is taking them...

If I were betting, I’d say we’re stuck with Trump for four years. But as Sabato says: “Lots of things about Donald Trump’s election and early presidency have been shocking. Why should it stop now?”

And what does it say about a presidency that, just one month into it, we’re already discussing whether it can be ended early?

And here's the best news eh?

If Trump keeps shrinking there soon won't be much left of him...

You mock him, he goes crazy.

You shrink him down to size.

And when he's good and ready.

You crush him like a bug...

Keep pushing, keep being loud, and keep being aggressive. Don't let people shame you and say "liberals are making people run to trump." That is complete and utter bullshit. Fuck those people, they voted for a fucking fascist and now they cheer on pedo defender Milo. Fucking loser, morally depraved cons.

    1. hi anon...yes I've heard that absurd argument. How can we fight those Trump bigots if we don't stand up for our own more decent values. My belief is that progressives must unite and stop taking a spoon to a knife fight...

  2. I'm sorry but I can't support impeachment, that's undemocratic act and as bad as Trump is, he hasn't actually done anything yet that justifies ignoring the election results, and staging a coup de tat.

Again this is not an endorsement of Trump, he's a tool, but democracy needs to be respected, the alternative is, worse then Trump.

America will survive, in 2 years the democracts, will likely steam roll the Republicans at the legislative level allowing them to block Trump on a lot of things.

And two years after that a Democract president.

    1. hy Gyor....as the Kristof article pointed out, impeachment is at the present time very difficult and extremely unlikely. But only at the present time, for who knows what we have still to learn about Trump and his Bannon mobsters? I do respect democracy, and I actually believe the orange oaf will end up helping progressives, by blowing up some of the globalist conspiracy. But of course, that's only if he doesn't blow up the world as well...

  3. Gyor has a point. Trump hasn't done anything impeachable - that we know of - yet. I would not be surprised to see revelations of impeachable acts in the coming months as the intelligence/security community, a.k.a. the "Deep State," fights back.

Some see Trump as a latter day Hitler or Mussolini. I see him more as America's own Robert Mugabe.

    2. hi Mound...as I told Gyor, impeachment at this point at least is nothing more than a pipe dream. But as you also point out, who knows what revelations about Trump's activities will emerge in the months or years ahead? And yes. he probably is more like Mugabe than Hitler or Mussolini, even if his bluster does somewhat resemble the buster of Benito....

So how about the prospects for the Democrats in the House of Reps for 2018 given that the party of a first-term president generally always experiences losses there in the midterm elections?

"History suggests it is too much to overcome. In a great year, they will get a seat the table and that will be helpful to them. It will take further Democratic gains in the next decade [after redistricting based on the 2020 census] to make that seat at the table result in real congressional gains that stabilize this thing back to 'fairness'. ...

"Even if [the Democrats] are successful in gradually getting some gains back - if you only get one chamber, all you've bought yourself is a seat at the table. You don't have control. So what do you do with a seat at the table when you have an overwhelming congressional delegation of Republicans? Well, you're not shifting it to overwhelmingly Democratic. You might knock of one Republican. ...

[The worst case scenario for Republicans:] "A really unpopular Republican president. But that's not enough. [Democrats] would have to set another historic record in 2018 and then 2020 would have to be another big one.

"I'd rather be us than them."

    - Chris Jankowski, Republican Redistricting Strategist

Of course, let's remember that Mr. Jankowski said all that before Trump won the election. Maybe Trump will motivate more Democrats and independents who trend Democratic to vote in midterm elections and not just in presidential years. Maybe Trump will be so bad that some or many right-leaning independents will have had enough of him. Given the effects of previous congressional district gerrymandering favouring Republicans in swing states, it will take a lot of them - something akin to movement.

    1. hi John...I must admit I was quite disappointed to read this from Kristof:

Some people believe that the 2018 midterm elections will be so catastrophic for the G.O.P. that everyone will be ready to get rid of him. I’m skeptical. In the Senate, the map is disastrous for Democrats in 2018: The Republicans will be defending only eight Senate seats, while Democrats will in effect be defending 25.

But I cling to the hope that enough Republican senators can be recruited to at least serve as a bit of a brake on Trump's rush to catastrophe. Other things can change too. If climate change continues at the speed it is now, Trump will have a hard time justifying his plan to all but demolish the EPA. And when millions of supporters find themselves without any medical coverage, the Republicans will have to do something or look like criminals. Or should I say more like criminals....

OMG THAT FIRST CARTOON IS FUNNY! Now put it on a t.shirt and I'll buy.

funny the Mound of Sound mentions Robert Mugabe. An article in the weekend paper quoted his wife as saying they could run Mugabe as a corpse and he'd still get elected. Mugabe was democratically elected and then turned the country into a dictatorship which he financially plunders. Sounds about like Trump

I'd have to agree, Trump hasn't done anything which he can be impeached for that we know of. Until he there is proof to impeach him is a violation of democratic rights. In 2018 people will have been able to see if he has improved their lot in life. If he hasn't the new crop in Congress will be Democrats who can put the boots to any changes he tries to make. Until then, Americans will have to wait unless Republicans in Congress decide to do what is best for their country instead of themselves. of course that might be one and the same.

The Republicans can't even agree on how to "eliminate" the ACA. Some want a replacement, others such as the Freedom caucus want nothing in place of it. its going to be interesting.

as to the referances to Sweden, That is just funny. Nothing happened in Sweden. There are some referances to a rise in crime last year which the Republicans may try to use as caused by "immigrants". However, a review of Swedish newspapers reflect the rise in crime in 2016 was because of a decline in 2015 and the crime rate simply returned to what it had been or there abouts. The Bannonites are desperate to paint Europe as a festing pool of crime because of immigrants from the middle east and northern Africa. What they don't do is compare crime in Europe with crime in America.

Trump and Bannon will continue to carry on about it all. their base will continue to buy into it until they notice they don't have the jobs they were promised, they don't have any health care, not even Obamacare, and their Veterans aren't being looked after.

    1. hi e.a.f... I think I have been praying for Mugabe to kick the bucket, or fall into a crocodile infested river, for at least ten years, but so far no luck. So now I'm praying that an alligator crawls out of the swamp and takes a big bite out of Trump, and hoping that somebody listens to my prayers. But as you point out, Trump and Bannon will eventually bring the roof down on themselves....

  6. And, speak of the devil, Robert Mugabe has now come out comparing himself to Donald Trump. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/robert-mugabe-donald-trump-claims-similarities-zimbabwe-head-of-state-us-president-a7590181.html Nailed it.

Judging from recent polls the faithful zombies have not flinched in their ardent support for the Grey Champion but those that voted for positive economic change are starting to loose confidence in his ability to deliver. Trump and his cronies have the tools available to spike the economic punch bowl in the short term but given his performance to date he will likely spill it on the start line. That's when the GOP will head for the life rafts leaving him on the sinking ship unless there is another distraction such as a real terrorist attack or dire threats of a escalating armed conflict. An actual war with Iran or Korea is another option to keep the ship afloat but that takes time and support from the media and the intelligence community to build up sufficient hype to capture non zombie public and allied support before the launch date. Perhaps a good ploy in another 2 years but the ship will sink before then unless something clicks. Anything to gain some traction and fill some holes! Based on his business dealings he seems to "get lucky" about 50% of the time.
At present he may be sinking in his own cesspool of lies and deceit but unfortunately nowhere near being flushed. Meanwhile the epic battle between the crony capitalists and the oligarch wannabees rages on while the people either cheer from the sidelines or tirelessly work and hope for the day that the combatants weaken each other to the point where a new American dream rises from the destruction.

    1. hi RT...as I think I've said before, I'm vey afraid that Trump will start a war to try to distract Americans from the failure of his economic policies. And in that regard, I now have another country to add to his list of targets: Venezuela. He might not dare steal Iraq's oil fields, but you can be sure he would like to turn Venezuela into another Granada. Meanwhile it's going to be 17 degrees later this week in the place where I live, in Canada, in February. And I can't help feeling that Trump is leading us to a disaster we can't even imagine...

  8. If non-partisan Watergate-style hearings looking into the Flynn affair show Trump was directly involved, he could be asked to step down in a matter of weeks or months. Can't wait for the audio and transcripts to be released.

    1. hi David... I'd like to believe that, but in the frantic news cycle we live in now, what happened last week is soon forgotten. Who can remember all the atrocities that happened during the election campaign? And yet Trump was still elected president, and it's like none of that happened...

Simon... Venezuela does make some sense, why give China a free pass. Pivot back towards South America and leave the middle east to the flock of circling buzzards including his comrades. It took 5 billion to escalate the Ukraine to the point of war. Venezuela fits the profile of a bargain distraction he so desperately needs.

For those living in the rust belt, jobs have not returned. Life has not improved. Given its only been a month, ...............however, the stock market is doing well. That works for those who have the money to play the stock market, but the rust belt who voted for him can't play the stock market. They can't even play in the food market. they're on food stamps. Once the people in the rust belt see no improvement in their lives and loose their AC, the trouble will start. There will be calls, which will go unanswered. The people in the rust belt will not gain employment by the building of the wall or the making of steel in the US.A. The factories are closed and won't be opening and those in the rust belt won't be moving to the south for the jobs.
