The Con Leadership Race: Now It's Even More of a Porky Show

As we all know the Con leadership race badly needs any publicity it can get. Because not only has it been a porky show, it's also been incredibly boring.

And if pigs could fly there would be pork in the trees.

But now at last that ghastly show could become the mud wrestling match, I've been hoping for since it began. Or at least a third rate comedy show.

Now that Lisa Raitt has come thundering out of the pen honking wildly.

And blasting Kellie Leitch and Kevin O'Leary.

Conservative leadership hopeful Lisa Raitt declared war on Donald Trump-style politics Wednesday with a full-throated attack on Kevin O’Leary and Kellie Leitch, rivals she said would “destroy” the party and keep the Tories from power for “a generation.”

Only to look ridiculous...

Or just desperate and hypocritical.

For while O'Leary is indeed a Con clown...

And among other things an enemy of unions. Raitt is no friend of them either.

Not when she once called a group of Air Canada workers "animals," demanded that they be arrested for slow clapping her.

Only to trigger wildcat strikes that almost shutdown out air transportation system.

And not when her record of incompetence more than matches that of Mr Wonderful.

For who can forget the time she lost some nuclear documents?

And sacrificed her faithful aide instead of herself...

Or the time she called cancer "sexy."

And of course who can forget how faithfully she served her lord and master Stephen Harper?

Despite my fond hopes that he would fire her...

But then who be surprised that it's such a gong show?

When this is how Kellie Leitch reacted to Raitt's criticism of her campaign.

“Lisa Raitt drew a line in the sand today and showed that she stands with the Liberals and media elites. She does not think it is important to ensure that the people we welcome into our country share our historic Canadian values of hard work, generosity, freedom, and tolerance,” the statement said.

Even though Leitch is a member of the elites, who wouldn't know a Canadian value if it jumped up and bit her. And in addition to all her other flaws, she can now be called a would be medicare killer.

Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch told Fox News’ Business Network on Tuesday that elites, insiders, and left-wing media, are doing everything they can to stop her and also suggested she doesn’t agree with universal healthcare.

So much for those Canadian values, so much for the Con leadership race.

And Lisa Raitt is only right about one thing:

This Con clown show could very well destroy the Harper Party.

And keep them out of power for at least a generation...

For it is still just a sad circus.

And still just a bad joke...

We should not be so dismissive. Everyone said Trump had no chance and look what happened. There are many stupid white people who believe they are just down on their luck millionaires and the only thing preventing them from a life of riches are wimmins, minorities, and gubmint. We must never become complacent and think we are inevitable.

    1. hi anon...you are quite right, we should never become complacent. That's why I keep covering the Con leadership race. It's not a threat now, but in the times we are living in anything is possible....

Trump came to power on the wave of a thousand but-fors. A friendly media. Russian hacking. A complacent opponent. Gerrymandered districts. James Comey. An antiquated Electoral College. On and on and on....

The Cons don't have any such advantages. But keep an eye on the media: they have a vested interest in narrative first, and if the narrative becomes "horse race", that only benefits the right. They've already made it clear they wanted to take Justin down a peg by taking him to task for essentially playing politics as usual, so taking down the "golden boy" by giving his opposition a pass wouldn't be beyond the scope of the press, particularly PostMedia.

"Mona" Lisa Raitt has finally found her niche and the war for the Con leadership has begun in earnest. Now that's sexy. As big a hypocrite as she is, we need to thank her for attacking the likes of Kevin "just visiting" O'leerie and Triple K Kellie. To read about Leitch preaching tolerance as a value was another gag worthy moment. And how in hell did she end up on Fox news? Were they doing one of those "bizzare news" segments called "Meet Canada's Trumpella?"
The vestiges of the Harper era are now officially at war and I couldn't be happier Simon. Their ex "Dear Leader" can do nothing to stop this train wreck from happening and the sweet irony of it all is seeing these clowns starting to use the same tactics on each other as they did against JT.

    1. hi JD...yes Raitt has finally burst onto the stage, and I'm hoping that she will drag them all down further. And as you point out, the day the Cons start fighting each other is a happy day indeed. I'm hoping for a good mud wrestling match, but a cage fight would be even better ;) And what was good for JT is surely good for the Trumpanzees...

It's rather ironic, isn't it? The smart politico would groom a successor during a long term in office. Chretien failed to do that, much to the detriment of the Liberal Party as it struggled through two failed leaders. Now it looks like Harper failed on that count as well, leaving his loyalists to twist in the wind and war amongst each other for the crown.

Trudeau is young enough that he can stand to be head of the Liberals for decades, and the Cons have never exactly been the party of youth or charisma. They're gonna have a tough time in the wilderness, which is only to the good for Canada.

  5. One thing I can say about Canadian politicians is that it doesn't take long for them to show their "true colours"! 2017 will be a lot dirtier than 2016!

Wow, Leitch really just threw the Canadian health care system under the bus??? Damn, now that's just stupid politics if ever I've seen it. The last thing you want to do is alienate your base by demonstrating any desire to undermine their health care. Even Republicans know better than that: they're already lining up their excuses not to repeal the ACA.

I hope she got something decent in return for her appearance. Bashing Canada's health care system plays great with the numbskulls at Fox, but she just shot herself in the foot here. The opposition had better save that clip in case she wins the Con leadership race, then have it play on every channel in the country.

I think Raitt has upped her game by starting the website. No problem with it at all. Whether we agree with her or not, the Conservatives hold 100 seats in the House and represent a fair number of Canadians. It is in all our best interests to ensure the Conservatives have a new leader who is more moderate than the previous one. without a strong opposition, a ruling party runs amuck. In a true democracy, a country needs at least 3 good strong parties. If the Conservative party disintegrated, it would be a case of the federal Liberals and NDP, with a party from Quebec. That doesn't make for a great democracy, in my humble opinion. We need to look no further than the U.S.A. which has only 2 parties. Three viable parties forces each party to remain at the top of their game, ensure voters are being protected and recognized.

Right now things are good with Trudeau, but if he "retired" and there was no strong opposition and some one with "other qualities" took over the Party the country could be in deep trouble, without strong opposition. Canada is a country of a lot of opinions and positions. The three major parties represent that. And yes, I support the separatist parties out of Quebec also. they again, bring something to our democracy.

In B.C. we have only viable two political parties. It isn't a good thing. Each party has to encompass so much political territory, it makes it hard for a party to find its footing except right now with the ruling B.C. Lieberals, which is actually more like a Conservative Party out of control with no moral compass. The NDP has so many different view points it can't get its act together to win. That isn't good for anyone. Had the B.C. Conservatives been able to get their act together and provide a viable alternative, for those who will never vote NDP, we might not have a premier who is destroying B.C. with a debt load of almost $200Billion in obligations; people dying in the streets from fent.--as many as 9 per day; children going to schools which have not been upgraded seismically; where one in five children live in poverty, etc.

We look at the Americans and their election of Trump and then his choices for cabinet and many suggest this will be somewhat of a thugocracy instead of a democracy. Well that isn't anything new. In my opinion, Trump will be taking a page out of the B.C. Lieberals play book and its been going on here for 15 years. That is what a 2 party system gives you. so I'm hoping for a decent Conservative leader even though I'm a leftie and have been for 55 years.
