I want to look away, I want to escape the insanity, I want to live in our peaceful kingdom, not in some American nightmare.
But I can't take my eyes off the horrifying sight of Donald Trump sounding crazier by the moment, and revealing his inner monster.
For it is a horror show.
It is a total meltdown.
And the monster is out of control.
Donald J. Trump wielded his presidential candidacy on Friday as a weapon for savaging detractors and venting personal grievances, attacking the women who have accused him of sexual assault and unwelcome advances and railing against what he described as a vast conspiracy against him by the news media and Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Now he says he doesn't need an autocue.
Now he's claiming that he couldn't have sexually assaulted all those women because they weren't pretty enough.
Donald Trump on accuser: "Believe me, she would not be my first choice, that I can tell you" https://t.co/UYpqI3w42L https://t.co/00BULex1Nn— CNN (@CNN) October 14, 2016
And revealing his inner misogyny. Again.
Now he's not just threatening to scorch the Republican Party...
Now he's threatening to burn down the house.
A wounded bear is a dangerous thing. Detested and defeated, Donald Trump is now in a tear-the-country-down rage. Day after day, he rips at the last remaining threads of decency holding this nation together. His opponent is the devil, he says — hate her with all your heart. Forget about the rule of law. Lock her up!
He’s made America vile. He’s got angel-voiced children yelling “bitch” and flipping the bird at rallies. He’s got young athletes chanting “build a wall” at Latino kids on the other side. He’s made it O.K. to bully and fat-shame. He’s normalized perversion, bragging about how an aging man with his sense of entitlement can walk in on naked women.
And set his own country on fire.
Those who take pleasure in watching Trump destroy the Republican Party are missing the bigger picture. He’s trying to destroy the country, as well. Civility, always a tenuous thing, cannot be quickly restored in a society that has learned to hate in public, at full throttle.
Just as I feared he would...
But then he is crazy desperate.
For while his most fanatic supporters are sticking with him...
Because many of them are too ignorant to know better.
You don't have to be a genius, or a weatherman, or a fireman, to know where this one is heading...
And no wonder Hillary Clinton is laughing AND dancing...
But of course, anything could happen.
There are still 24 long days to go.
And I really can't wait until this horror movie is over...
And let's just hope the sequel won't be even scarier.
And yes, as I said yesterday, thank goodness we live in our peaceful kingdom...
Hey fall come back here !!!!!
And have a great weekend everybody...
I think you are right, the big picture is more frightening than the small one here. The nastiness of Trump's supporters in the face of his meltdown is a more important story, in some ways, than Trump himself. And his reaction to his troubles is scarier than he troubles themselves. I have noticed, though, that a number of American commentators (including in the New Yorker, the NYT, and the Washington Post) have picked up on this and are writing about Trump's reactions as more illustrative that he is unfit for office than his previous misdeeds.
ReplyDeletehi Kirby...yes, what Trump is doing is criminally irresponsible. Half his supporters now believe the election will be rigged, and if or when they lose there is no telling what they might do. Trump is already urging them to "guard" the polls, which could lead to massive voter intimidation, and it is indeed just one more reason why he is unfit to be president...
Deletei wonder what measures will be needed in the next 24 desperate days.
ReplyDeletegawd! make this filth stop already!
hi Luce...yes, Trump is dragging himself and American democracy into the gutter. It has to be the worst election campaign I have ever witnessed. But I'm afraid it's going to get worse before it gets better....
DeleteThis blog makes Alex Jones appear sane. What senseless and hysterical demagoguery.
ReplyDeletehi anon...no I'm sorry, you may disagree with what I'm saying. But nothing I have written or will ever write will be as bad as the racist sexist garbage spewed out by Alex Jones...
DeleteIn January 2016, Trump boasted: "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters."
ReplyDeleteYou know what? If Trump's daughter Ivanka said in an interview that she has had consensual sex with her father since she was 16, and continues to do so, people would still vote for him.
hi anon...that remark about shooting a person on 5th Avenue should have been a warning that Trump was unfit to be president. And you're right, there seems to be nothing that can lose him the support of his rabid or abysmally ignorant supporters. But luckily Trump can't win with their support alone, so hopefully this horror story will have a happy end...

LEMON: So, Larry, you wrote your book. Harry, excuse me. Harry, I know. In 1993.
HARRY HURT III, AUTHOR, "LOST TYCOON: THE MANY LIVES OF DONALD J. TRUMP": Correct.
LEMON: Is this the same? Is this man different from the man that you wrote about then?
HURT: No, it's absolutely the same. And here's the thing that people have ignored. In 1989, during their divorce proceedings, Donald Trump, according to the sworn testimony of his ex-wife Ivana, came into the bedroom in Trump Tower and raped her.
[23:20:09] LEMON: And then she retracted that.
HURT: No, she did not retract it.
LEMON: She said she didn't want it in a public record?
HURT: No, no, no. No, she did not retract it. And in fact, this is the misconception that everyone said, which is why I brought my book here. I will tell you exactly what she did say. She said, and I quote -- statement of Ivana Trump sent in to my publisher in 1993, "During a deposition given by me in connection with my matrimonial case, I've stated that my husband had raped me. I wish to say that on one occasion during 1989, Mr. Trump and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently towards me than he had during our marriage. As a woman I felt violated."
OK. That's not a denial. I'm sorry. What's she's saying here is there was nonconsensual sex. There's also a context of this. What prompted this was Donald had had an operation called scalp reduction to cover a bald spot on the back of his head at the hands of her plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Hofling. He came in and started grabbing her hair on the corresponding spot where he had that operation and then this rape occurred.
OK? Rape is not an act of sex, it's an act of anger. This guy was enraged. She ran down to the bedroom normally occupied by her mother, closed the door, cried all night. And when she came out in the morning, he said, did it hurt? This is according to her sworn testimony in a deposition. This is not a denial, Don.
LEMON: OK. Yes. And we're going to -- producers are probably going to go a little bit longer because of this. I think it's an interesting conversation. How do you respond to that, Betsy?
MCCAUGHEY: That must be some book. Hold up the cover. (LAUGHTER)

hi David...it's interesting that anyone who has written a book about Trump is now warning that he is unfit to be president. There have been so many warnings, but so many have been ignored, I shudder to think what might happen...
DeleteEven Trump's hair is unfit to be president!
DeleteHere's why Trump always a baseball cap when he speaks at outdoor rallies:

When the Republicans start to re-build their party lets they ensure the wing nuts are left outside. It is when the Republicans started to "welcome" these wingnuts, evangelicals, tea baggers, etc. that they set the stage for this.
ReplyDeletepart of the problem, in my opinion, is the U.S.A. has only 2 dominate parties, which is not enough for a country of their size. Both parties are placed in the position of having to accommodate people they aren't really in tune with. The U.S.A.'s political landscape would be much better if they had 3 or 4 major parties.
