Jason Kenney, Tony Clement, and the Mediocrity of the Cons

It may seem hard to believe, but many in the MSM are saying that Jason Kenney's decision to leave his job in Ottawa to go fight the commies in Alberta, has blown a giant hole in the Con leadership race.

Which speaks volumes about the dilapidated state of Rona Ambrose's Harper Party.

And so does this...

Tony Gazebo Clement, announcing that he will soon be announcing that he will be a candidate for Con leader.

Veteran Conservative MP Tony Clement is set to join the leadership race to take over the helm of his party. The former cabinet minister will make an “important announcement” in Mississauga, Ont., on Tuesday night, alongside his wife Lynne, about the “future of the Conservative Party of Canada,” according to a release.

Thinking that he can keep the suspense building for another four days.

“Obviously, I’m going to talk about the future of our party and our country, and I look forward to getting the feedback,” Mr. Clement, who declined to confirm his leadership bid, said when reached by phone on Friday.

When in fact nobody really gives a damn. Nobody thinks he has the slightest chance of winning.

Not after his appalling record in office.

Not after the way he gutted the census...

Only to later admit it was all a terrible mistake, but don't blame him because he was just following orders...

And of course not after this nightmare that will haunt him forever...

Or this nightmare that will haunt US forever....

For what will Clement do next to try to attract attention? How low will he go?

And yes, no wonder Jason Kenney decided to leave the sinking Con ship and try to revive his sagging career in Alberta.

Where yesterday he announced that he does indeed have the support of Stephen Harper.

Jason Kenney says his Alberta PC leadership aspiration — which involves reuniting the province's fractured right — comes with the support of his old boss Stephen Harper.

"You know I have discussed this with him and he, I shouldn't probably discuss our private conversations ... he's encouraged me to offer myself in either the provincial or federal leadership," Kenney told CBC Calgary News at 6 on Friday.

Which while hardly surprising, does seem fitting.

For it's thanks to Harper that the Cons were never able to develop a new generation of leaders. And now look so old, so tired, and above all so mediocre.

For Great Fallen Leader was always too paranoid, or too vain, to encourage any serious contenders lest they one day fancy his job...

So now the Cons are paying a terrible price. Unable to renew themselves, unable to attract any decent leadership candidates, still the Harper Party, and still going nowhere.

You know I once thought Clement might have another career as a street musician, after seeing this picture of him performing with an Elvis impersonator...

But after hearing him sing this old Clash song on the Todd Shapiro show I change my mind...

For it's clear he can't sing either eh?

And he really should have gone.

Tony Clement, just another Con clown.

Clinging to the past.

And like all the others, more than ready to get the hook...

First time since October that I can read anything about Tony Clement and not have my blood pressure through the roof. In hindsight I guess Harper was clever in using Clement to do his dirty work. Without the gazebos, I wonder if he would even be electable. The sleeze just oozes out of his pores...

    1. hi TS...as I said in my post, I just can't believe that Clement is so deluded that he would jump into a leadership race he almost certainly can't win. The man must have an ego as big as a mountain. Bt then also said in my post, we should celebrate the fact that the Cons have so far been able to attract such a mediocre collection of candidates. And the more popular Justin Trudeau remains, the harder that will become....

  2. As mediocre as they are, the party grass-roots are generally too ignorant and/or stupid to notice. Someone will lead that gang of idiots. And our elites will continue to try convince us that they're a respectable political choice.

    1. hi thwap...I suppose that's true too. Although I must say I find it hard to believe that Tony Clement will get many votes. But you're definitely right about the media, for I can't believe what good press Jason Kenney is getting from the MSM. And how they downplay his social conservative views and his grotesque bigotry. But then Kenney is desperately trying to improve his own image by lying like a thief. And believe it or not is now even claiming that he never really made a a vow to remain chaste until he got married. It was according to Kenney just something he said to inspire young Catholics to be as sexless as he is. Honestly with him running for premier of Alberta, and Trump running for President, we really have hit the bottom of the barrel....

  3. Chasing Jason Kenney sounds like a fantasy created by Post Media.

    1. hi Steve....well it does sound a bit like a movie, a horror movie. Kenny has a lot of money, which he uses to buy favours from other Con MPs, and he also has a small gang of fanatics working for him who treat him like a god. But nothing can change the fact that he is that he is an unrepentant bigot and Cold War warrior, and unfit to lead any Canadian party....

    1. hi Steve...it's not just Postmedia. I just finished reading a piece by the CP reporter Bruce Cheadle in the Toronto Star. And it claims Kenney isn't as bad as most people think he is. Which only reinforces my belief that Ottawa is a small and incestuous place, and totally out of touch with the reality of life beyond it....

"When in fact nobody really gives a damn. Nobody thinks he has the slightest chance of winning." Seems to be the census Simon. He must be talking into the mirror when he thinks he has someone in his corner!!!!! I am quite confident that he will never amount to a decent human being, let alone be in a position of authority. This will finally be the end all to that self serving, ignorant, nasty, morally depleted, waste of human flesh. Anon 11:41am don't waste a hike in your blood pressure on a useless, going no where piece of shat!!!!!!!!! Please Simon no more shirtless pictures. I seem to want to throw up looking at the face, let alone anymore of his useless human flesh,,,,, Had to scroll past that one real fast. ha ha FS

    1. hi FS...I thought the gutting of the census was one of the worst things the Cons ever did. It made absolutely no sense, and has left a gap in our collective memory. It was simply insane and for that alone Clement should have been voted out of office. But I will enjoy the moment when Clement is forced to quit, and should he start wailing away at that point it will be even more satisfying. And I can only hope that the late great Joe Strummer didn't hear Clement singing that Clash song, for he would be outraged...

  6. Isn't that Tony Clement in Harper's video?

    1. hi David...yes that is a very good Clement lookalike, and I can't decide what part I like best. The part where he is in the sauna, or the part where he humps Harper in the elevator. I hadn't forgotten that video, but it's a really good one. I must find some excuse to run it again.... ;)

  7. Kenney's entry into Alberta politics must have Peter Mackay feeling very good right now.

    1. Hi David....yes it must be making Dumbo feel good, especially since his SoCon competition will now be Brad Trost or Andrew Scheer. But as I said in my post the good news is that Harper seems to have damaged his own party even more than he damaged Canada....

  8. Harper destroyed the federal PC rump when its new leader treacherously betrayed it to him. He had only to wait for the Reform-a-CRAP-Alliance to destroy itself to weld the two cinders together. He pretended to have destroyed the Liberals---who'd actually beaten themselves to a pulp---and managed two minorities and a single majority whilst they defaulted government to a party that was always about destruction.

Finally Harper destroyed his freak-weasel creation. Alls they can do now is demand a referendum on electoral reform---but I think they're really secretly eyeballing pro-rep, the electoral system preferred by fringe parties so's they can win a few seats and maybe, if they're lucky, win the balance of power and have hung parliamentary influence way out of proportion with their actual democratic weights.

What's a Con destroyer to do?

    1. hi Geoffrey...yes I think you summed up the situation. Harper was always more interested in destroying than he was creating anything. It started when he tried to destroy his high school's student council, and explains why after almost ten years in power he left nothing behind worth celebrating. We can rebuild our country, but the Cons are going to have a really hard time trying to repair the damage Harper did to their party...

If Jason went to Alberta to continue his career, it says to me, he didn't have a hope in hell of continuing one in Ottawa. Now Tony maybe willing to settle for leader of the opposition until he retires, he does get the nice house and that is definitely better than what he has now.

About the only prize in winning the Con contest is you get to live in a bigger house and get a chauffeur. For some that will be enough. if the cons really go down in the polls, the next leader of the NDP wins the house. Of course if the federal Liberals make a huge mistake, its a war for who gets which house.

I like to think of this as winning a lottery for a new house. well if you've been to B.C. lately........
