Rex Murphy's Obscene Tribute to Rob Ford
Well let nobody say I didn't warn you. I predicted that Rex Murphy would have something to say about his fellow demagogue, and millionaire Rob Ford.
And sure enough he did.
And the only thing I regret is that my warning wasn't strong enough.
For this diatribe couldn't be more obscene.
Can you believe it? Invoking the name of the great Abraham Lincoln to praise a man like Rob Ford.
Or following that one up with this:
"Mr. Ford was one of the most remarkable ordinary people Toronto has ever produced."
And failing to mention that the man was a crass, vulgar, misogynistic, homophobic bully and political thug.
And the worst and most disgraceful Mayor Toronto has ever seen.
You know, I promised myself that I wouldn't write anything more about Rob Ford now that he has finally gone, and can't do any more damage. So I won't.
But what I will say is that the Conservative Broadcasting Corporation seems to have very low standards...
And we are going to have to take it back, like we took back our country.
Public pressure forced its management stooges to fire one of those freaks.
Now let's start pressuring them to fire the other one....

What a stupid man!!!! what a friggin embarrassment to the rest of us Newfies!!!!! That prickly piece of shat should have been fired long ago. FS
ReplyDeletehi FS...yes the horror show goes on. But I'm patient, and I will keep demanding that the CBC fire him ...
DeleteThe CBC execs are NEVER going to fire Murphy.
ReplyDeleteAs I said before, a journalist/reporter needs to be given the opportunity to rebut Murphy like CBS News used to do with their regular "Point - Counter Point" segment on 60 Minutes in the 1970's:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/60_Minutes#.22Point.2FCounterpoint.22_segment
For most of the 1970s, the program included Point/Counterpoint, in which a liberal and a conservative commentator debated a particular issue. This segment originally featured James J. Kilpatrick representing the conservative side and Nicholas von Hoffman for the liberal, with Shana Alexander taking over for von Hoffman after he departed in 1974. The segment was an innovation that caught the public imagination as a live version of competing editorials.

hi David....I like your counterpoint idea, that at least would provide balance, and be far more entertaining than Murphy's oily sermons. But the fact is he should be fired so I'm just going to keep plugging away....
DeleteMay mot have liked Rob Ford much as a politician. Don't care if I ever see Rex Murphy again, but its called free speech and he gets to say what he wants, even if its on the tax payer dime.
ReplyDeleteJust because we don't like either person doesn't mean there aren't thousands who do like them and they are entitled to their opinions and their grief,.
Yeah, sure that's what they said about Hitler and Stalin too.
DeleteRex's grasp on reality is not exactly strong, is it?
Deletehi e.a.f....as I told you many times, it's not a question of freedom of speech. It's a matter of journalistic ethics and balance....
DeleteSimon, your really out on the fringe on this one . I was never a big fan of Rob Ford nor am I a fan of Rex Murphy... but on this blog I truly believe your out of line.
ReplyDeleteNothing is as egregious as you seem to imply here. Why bother posting a blog with headline "obscene" tribute, when a tribute is mean't to show respect.
Mr. Ford may have been all of what you said he was, but should his tribute have mentioned what you say " that the man was a crass, vulgar, misogynistic, homophobic bully and political thug" ?
And yes you broke your promise that you wouldn't write anything more about Rob Ford when you made the above comment and then try to veil it in your criticism of the CBC
