Stephen Harper's Day of Defeat and Embarrassment
Well one thing is for sure. In his lonely loser bunker, surrounded by the last of his loyal Cons, somewhere between Alberta and Paraguay, Stephen Harper is having another bad day.
Another Con bastion has fallen.
And a red tide has swept over Newfoundland and Labrador.
Dwight Ball, a pharmacist who had struggled in the past just to get elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador legislature, has led the Liberals to a commanding victory Monday night in a general election that brought an end to 12 years of Tory government.
Brought about thanks to Harper, by the strong desire to vote for anyone but the Cons.
Ball said he plans to create a new tone for government as the Liberals take power, citing a change at the federal level.
"It was just a few weeks ago that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said positive politics is a powerful force for change," he said. "And tonight that has proven itself true again in Newfoundland and Labrador."
Leaving Saskatchewan as the only province in Canada with a Con government.
You know, Brad Wall's Saskatchewan...
Which is definitely a mixed blessing.
And to make matters worse, the painting of Great Leader in his birthday suit, Emperor Haute Couture, has been sold to the highest bidder.
The controversial nude portrait of former prime minister Stephen Harper has been sold for $20,000 to a Vancouver man who describes the piece as "biting political satire."
Bought by a man who wants to share the painting widely.
"I can't wait to get it out in front of as many people as possible," the new owner, Frederick Ghahramani, told Rita Celli on CBC Radio's Ontario Today.
And will give it, and Great Leader, the respect they deserve.
"Every time I look at it I burst out laughing," Ghahramani said. "I do that with all biting political satire. I also understand that it doesn't come from a vulgar point of making fun of the prime minister. It comes from a very dark, depressing point."
So Harper will have his monument after all.
Just not this one....
That one is being demolished for making fraudulent claims, and disgracing this country beyond recognition.
But one that will remind Canadians through the centuries, who he really was.
The leader who after ten years in power ended up living in an NDP province, in a city with a Muslim mayor, in an almost totally progressive Canada, with Liberal government, and a Trudeau as Prime Minister.
The emperor with no clothes, who will keep them laughing until the end of time.
It is quite a legacy.
And the one he deserves...

By the looks of things...
ReplyDeleteIt was a cold day in hell when that portrait was done.
Here's to Con shrinkage !!
hi anon...maybe it's just a bad angle, but yes there does seem to have been some shrinkage. Even the tiny one on the statue of David is bigger than that one. Although it's not the emperor's body that is so Harper, it's the cold dead look in his eyes...
DeleteBeing a Newfie myself I am so proud of NLLab for their decision to dump another CON government. As for Brad Wall his government is due to fall in the spring!!!!!!!! I think the gross picture of Hitler Harper should go on a world tour!!!!!!!! Embarrass the shat out of that lying, thieving, Hitler Harper!!!!!! It will be interesting how the lying CONS will spin the NLLab loss today!,,, I guess Rempel will be all dressed up in her lipstick to flap her gums to justify yet another sweep on Power and Politcs!!!!!! The only pathetic news show that allows her to flap!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehi anon...well let me just say to you excellent work!!! I absolutely adore the good people of Newfoundland and Labrador, and once again they did not disappoint me...
DeleteSimon did you notice 780,000 people marched in 175 countries and 20,000 marched in Ottawa alone in Canada. Made front page in newspaper around the world but didn't get reported in Canadian newspapers. Completely missed on the CBC web site. Write to M. Joly and complain about the quality of CBC news coverage and programming everybody. They seem to be caught in a conservative net.
ReplyDeletehi anon...yes I did, and I simply can't understand it. The MSM these days seems to live in a parallel universe, and is totally out of touch with its readers and viewers. It's appalling, but as I have said before, if they don't come to their senses soon they will pay a heavy price for what they are doing...
DeleteHi Simon, Brad is not alone in the remaining falling empire of con backwardness. None other than Christy Clark in BC is also leading a harper-inspired reform style government calling itself liberal. Of course her party of patronage appointments is nothing close to real liberal and is also many years past its expiry date, but unfortunately, the NDP in BC can't seem to muster up enough public outrage to oust Clark. She is also the missing in action MLA here in West Kelowna.
ReplyDeletehi bcwaterboy...yes I've heard about the Liberals who I'm told are really the Conservatives. Although I had to live in your province for a few months before it sunk in. And after that shock I had to admit that I will probably will never understand BC politics. Still I am surprised the NDP hasn't done better in BC. Once they seemed so strong and now they seem to be nowhere...
DeleteDon't forget BC. The BC Liberals are Cons under a pseudonym.
ReplyDeleteI live in BC,Clark is a true liberal and not a conservative. But in BC, especially Vancouver Island is full of NDP people who have no idea what they talk about. Too busy collecting welfare and complaining that there are no jobs. There are plenty of jobs in the tourist sector. Sorry Simon, I lived there for many years and seen myself what goes on,when we moved on Vancouver island. When Clark was given a mandate in her last election, The NDP were so sure that they would win, so a lot of them especially the young people didn't bother to go and vote. When we moved from Manitoba to Vancouver Island in 1970,Campbell River, the entire city was on strike. No jobs because of the strike, even Cablevision was on strike. My husband had a job to go to but with all the strikes. His new job didn't happen because of the striking NDP people. We had three young children to support so my husband had to take small jobs in neighbouring town's Two hour drive away from home and logging places. He was certified with his carpentry ticket.
Deletehi Marie...as I just told bcwaterboy, BC politics is a bit of a mystery. But I remember when the NDP seemed poised to win the election only to collapse at the very end. And of course its depressing to find out that the reason was because so many young people didn't bother to vote. Thank goodness we were able to mobilize a good number at last during the last federal election....
DeleteIf Clark is a "true" Liberal we are all in trouble. Clark and her predecessor Gordon Campbell have presided over complete devastation in this province. BC is full of natural resources and the right wing coalition led by Clark have demolished education, we have the highest child poverty rates in Canada, we have to pay a minimum of $72 dollars per month for medicare, the only province with such fees. Our transit systems are in disarray and we pay the highest cost for fuel thanks to the carbon tax which is then diverted to multinational corporations. The healthcare system and hospitals are a complete mess with the Clarke government contracting out the cleaning and food services and destroying pensions and wages for mostly women workers in these sectors. BC teachers are among the lowest paid and they have had class size control legislated away by legislation which has subsequently been ruled illegal by Canada's Supreme court. They, like the Harper government ignored these rulings and continued to attack the teachers. We have had teacher strikes for 10 years until last year and the schools are a safety hazard as the Clark government has slowed down the retrofitting of schools because they won't tax the rich. The environment has suffered under these Liberals just look at the devastation of Mount Polley mine last year and the mines are again open for destruction again this week.Seniors and children under care are in life threatening situations. That's just a short list! If these are "true" Liberals, then we are in big trouble with Trudeau. I refuse to believe that Trudeau will take us down the same path as Campbell and Clark have but I will be watching everything they do and making my dissatisfaction known if they start us on that slippery path.
DeleteBC also has a hard right Conservative government IMO ,in all but name. Merv
ReplyDeletehi Merv...yes, I probably should have mentioned that. But at least it's good to know that there is no party in power with the Conservative name. That in itself is something to celebrate...
DeleteBC still has a conservative government (and a profoundly incompetent one at that. (Liberal in name only)
ReplyDeleteYes, the BC Liberal Party are Liberal in name only.

Christy Clark reminds me of the smiling Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
I hope Pierre PoiLIEvre or Michelle Remplestiltskin is chosen the next Con leader.
DeleteTories appear in no hurry to choose Harper’s replacement
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/tories-appear-in-no-hurry-to-choose-harpers-replacement/article27522216/
hi David....yes I see they are trying to make it sound like they just want to take their time to make the right decision blah blah blah. But the truth is they're exhausted, they're demoralized, They have no bench strength left, and for the first time in a long time they are also in debt. So it really is the walking dead....
DeleteIt appears Christy Clark likes to stand out from others in her photo ops by dressing in bright colours. Scroll down this page and see her in her white blouse and bright blue jacket:

She wears a wig. No one has seen her real hair in years.
A Liberal win in NFLD could be sweet justice for Dunphy
ReplyDeletehttp://ipolitics.ca/2015/11/29/a-liberal-win-in-nfld-could-be-sweet-justice-for-dunphy/
Don Dunphy and daughter Meghan is happier times. Don Dunphy was shot and killed Easter weekend by a member of the Newfoundland premier's security team and no one will say why.
Clark may be con at heart but a carbon tax is all best practice
ReplyDeleteThe poor old NL PC Party fell on bad leadership after Danny Williams resigned. Dunderhead then someone or other screwed it all up.
ReplyDeleteYou remember Danny, don't you? The only premier who told us all out loud that Stevie was a shithead and completely untrustworthy, and repeated it over and over again.
He deserves an honorary place in this site's Hall of Fame. Lest we forget, during the election campaign, on Oct 15, he published an opinion in the Star which sums up what the feeling was here:
", my experience with Stephen Harper has been nothing but broken promises, backing out of commitments, lack of respect for voters, marginalizing those he sees as expendable, and a passion for staying in the prime minister’s chair that far exceeds his passion for the betterment of the people of Canada. Simply put, I don’t like Stephen Harper. Now, we don’t need to like our prime minister, but we darn well deserve to have one we can trust."
Rather than party labels, you sometimes have to just recognize a decent premier, and Williams was one. Will this new Liberal premier be any good? Not necessarily at all.
hi anon...I remember Danny Williams well, and I assure you he does have a place of honour in my Hall of Fame. I can never forget how he put Harper in his place, and yes I judge people by their actions not their party labels. The statue of Danny Wiiliams is standing right next to the one of Joe Clark, another great and decent Canadian...
DeleteGood for you Simon for removing the black dot! So glad lady who sold it made a tidy profit.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to look at his fish (no dot) because I wanted to see the whole picture. I am a woman, and I know men can be funny about these things. But mmm, well, I can see why he wouldn't like this painting. I will pay money to see it, and hope to get a socio political commentary at same time.
hi anon...well I agonized over that because I am a bit of a prude, but I finally decided that it was an artist's work, and who am I to censor it? Besides as I said above I think that the most powerful part of that painting is the cruel look in his eyes. I'm also glad that the person who bought it intends to share it widely. So between that and all the copies that I intend to put up on walls in my neighbourhood, I think we can help make that portrait of a tyrant the one they will remember...;)
DeleteThat painting is quite the legacy to leave his children! I feel so sorry for those two kids!
ReplyDeletehi anon...I'm sorry if his kids are embarrassed for I wish them no harm. But someone is going to have to explain to them some day why their daddy is so hated. And that portrait might be a good way to start the conversation....
DeleteCome on, Anons! Please clarify which Anon is responding. Make up a name if need be.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous SpongeBob, Anonymous R2D2, whatever......
hi David...no wait, they can't have R2D2. He's my alter ego... ;)
DeleteDoes R2D2 or C-3PO appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
DeleteClick on this link if you want to find out. But don't click if you don't want to know.

Lol David. Some of us are still living in fear of the cons. You know how vindictive they are and they are still in control of crown corporations. When Justin fires them I'll come out. Right now they are attempting to claw back our pensions which are barely enough to live on. For now I will be Pamela.
