The Con Media's Insane War on Justin Trudeau
As you know the Cons, led by the flying chicken hawk Jason Kenney, have been trying to use the massacre in Paris to go after Justin Trudeau.
Accusing him of letting down the side, or siding with the terrorists, for his decision to end our bombing campaign in Iraq and Syria. And focus instead on better and more Canadian ways to help defeat ISIS.
And what makes it even worse, is that the Con media is going after Trudeau for the same reason.
Like bats out of hell...
With Jeffrey Simpson blowing his tinny trumpet and accusing Trudeau of ramping down our military mission.
No sooner had Paris been maimed by terrorist attacks by the Islamic State than Mr. Trudeau reaffirmed that Canada would indeed be withdrawing from the direct military fight against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.
Distracted by more pressing matters, the government of our “cousins” said nothing, but the French (and other allies) cannot be amused by Mr. Trudeau’s decision. They are considering how to ramp up military efforts against the Islamic State; Canada is ramping down.
Lysiane Gagnon screeching hysterically about how he's destroying our credibility.
The federal government’s decision to recall the CF-18 jets from the coalition fighting the Islamic State is a terrible blow to Canada’s credibility on the world stage.
This move sends clear messages both to our allies and to the Islamic State: Canada cannot be relied on when tragedy strikes a close ally, and Canadians are quick to back off under threats of terrorism.
Even if she admits its only empty symbolism.
True, these six aging jets were playing a secondary role, but their presence was highly symbolic in a context where symbols count for a great deal.
While David Akin, from the Postmedia brigade, makes it only too clear that our Con media wants the bombing to continue...
And that Trudeau better listen to them or ELSE.
When in fact Trudeau doesn't have to listen to them, and he is not ramping down our military effort against ISIS, he's planning to ramp up our contribution on the ground.
Now that Russia is sometimes dropping more bombs in one day than the Americans are dropping in a month, and the French are stepping up their campaign, our symbolic presence is even more meaningless.
Far from destroying our image on the world stage, Trudeau is enhancing it like no other Prime Minister has done before him...
And all the Con media are trying to do is destroy him, and our dreams of a better Canada.
And as for the Great War on Terror, as Michael Harris points out, it's almost certainly not the kind of war that can be won in the air or on the ground.
No one else is saying it, but it’s still a fact: ISIS — or something just like it — is with us to stay. With every politician in France channelling Clint Eastwood, you might think that the “eradication” of this Islamic terrorist group is just a few bombing sorties away.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Revenge-driven aerial bombing campaigns may make the French think something is being done about the Paris attacks — until the next attack.
The War in Afghanistan was a grinding failure. The War in Iraq even more of a bloody fiasco.
Baghdad is a shadow of its former self, capital of a country that exists only on maps. Farmers in southern Iraq are turning from rice to poppy cultivation. Iraq has splintered into deadly factions and is sinking into what looks like a regional civil war — the late Osama bin Laden’s goal.
Back in Saddam Hussein’s day, there were no jihadists in Iraq. Now there is ISIS, which President Obama himself admits was created by the blundering U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Whipping up fears about terrorism, while never tackling its root causes, is the road to ruin and a police state.
You stand a better chance of being struck by lightning than of dying at the hands of a terrorist — but most governments see a hidden benefit in exaggerating the threat. After every attack attributed to terrorists, governments take another step towards the complete surveillance state.
The journey towards global surveillance rides the bullet train of fear and prejudice. The more speed it picks up, the further democracy recedes in the rear-view mirror.
And basing decisions about military strategy on emotion or rage...
Couldn't be more insane or more dangerous.
So if Justin Trudeau wants to take some time to decide in a calm and rational manner how Canada can best contribute to the fight against ISIS, while keeping us safe, and preserving our Canadian values.
Then that's what he should do, and all decent Canadians should support him.
And for beating the drums of war in such a feverish and hysterical fashion just to satisfy their corporate bosses...
And playing up base emotion over reason.
The Con media deserves no thanks at all.
And couldn't be more disgusting or more pathetic...

The decent Canadians do support Trudeau, Simon. Canadians didn't listen to the CON media during the the election and their not listening now. I don't think Trudeau is listening to them either. This is the same media that gave Harper, a dictatorial wanna be, a 9 yr pass. You;re right, they want to bring Trudeau down. It won't happen though. As to the opposition, they should remember why Canadians voted them out. If Kenney keeps it up, he'll find himself out of job in 2019.
ReplyDeleteThe Con media will never ever bring up these stories...Other media in the world did write about it.
ReplyDeleteIn a classic Putin move, the Russian President presented evidence of G20 member states providing financial support to ISIS…during the G20 summit in Antalya.Putin also provided satellite images of the Islamic State's lucrative oil smuggling operations:
http://www.sott.net/article/306643-Putin-outed-ISISs-G20-financiers-But-not-a-single-western-media-outlet-has-reported-it
Simon, not one word in the western MSM about this.
Then we have USVP Joe Biden shooting his mouth off at Harvard.
"... our biggest problem is our allies - our allies in the region were our largest problem in Syria. The Turks were great friends - and I have the greatest relationship with Erdogan, which I just spent a lot of time with - the Saudis, the Emiratis, etc. But what were they doing? They were so determined to take down Assad and essentially have a proxy Sunni-Shia war, what did they do?
They poured hundreds of millions of dollars and tens, thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad, except that the people who were being supplied were Al Nusra and Al Qaeda and the extremist elements of jihadis coming from other parts of the world.
Now you think I'm exaggerating - take a look... Now we have - the President's been able to put together a coalition of our Sunni neighbors, because America can't once again go into a Muslim nation and be seen as the aggressor - it has to be led by Sunnis to go and attack a Sunni organization."
Story is here. You won't find this on the Western MSM either.

Then we have CNN reporter Elise Labott getting a two week suspension for this tweet
"House passes bill that could limit Syrian refugees. Statue of Liberty bows head in anguish," upon learning that the House of Representatives had voted 289-137, with 47 Democrats joining 242 Republicans in suspending a program that would allow Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the US, until American security agencies find that they would not pose a security risk.

Simon you and others can check out these links provided..lots of great information never to be found at the Western MSM..
Thanks for that link. It led to http://www.sott.net/article/306847-Priceless-PBS-uses-Russian-video-during-report-of-alleged-US-airstrike-on-ISIS-oil-smuggling-trucks which was even more ironic. The film clips are clearly Russiam, at least, I doubt if the USAF uses Cyrillic to annotate film.
DeleteI would have thought better of PBS. :) A misrepresentation like this has more the flavour of Fox News about it.
Some media may want the bombing to continue, but when Canadians understand each bomb can cost $90k, they understand the money can be put to better use. Putin may want to bomb where ever he can, but we aren't Russia. Our 6 aging jets are not some sort of symbol, for a united front. Given the age of them, we might be better off to keep them in Canada for our own use, if necessary. We are not necessary in the middle east. We ought to be in the peace keeping business, the protecting people business, the helping business.
ReplyDeleteGiven the falling readership with the MSM, not many Canadians are buying their papers or believing their story lines.
there is the question of, if its so bad for ISIS to kill 126 people. le in Paris, why is it OK for other countries to bomb and kill civilians.
Quack! Quack! There are laws to protect people from quacks except when they are politicians.
ReplyDeleteRT
Let us continue to ignore MSM and the filthy pigs Canadians just threw out of Ottawa. Looking for reason in insanity never works. Trudeau Sr had extraordinary vision when he repatriated the constitution. The apple did not land far from the tree.
ReplyDeleteInstead of ignoring the right wing media, lets use the following statements by a Republican House member against them arguing that rejecting any refugees would be a victory for ISIS instead. Check this out: http://www.rawstory.com/2015/11/republican-combat-vet-eviscerates-xenophobic-conservatives-isis-wins-if-you-block-refugees/
ReplyDeleteExcellent speech but apparently he then voted for the Bill he spoke against. US republicans make our Cons look almost sane, or at least not barking - mad.
DeleteOf course I am in agreement with all you wrote here Simon, but there is an additional element that I am finding infuriating. Somehow not only are we supposedly abandoning our commitment to the coalition and being surrender monkeys, we are also supposedly trying to be safer in our commitment by shifting to training ground troops, this despite the proof that this is clearly a MORE dangerous role for our military to be given the sole Canadian military death so far being from such a role.
ReplyDeleteI love the mindset that claims we are trying to be safer in our commitment to a military alliance/coalition while at the same time withdrawing as surrender monkeys. Yet that contradiction seems to get glossed over time and again.
Personally, I agree Trudeau is making the right calls so far, being reasoned and rational, unlike the Cons and their media throats so far. I think, and have thought all along our prime focus should be on training with the risks involved there plus aiding in refugee management in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey. I've said since Trudeau first opposed this mission in the House back when it was first proposed and made this point that his was the best bang for the buck and the best, as in smartest, way to fight this conflict if fight we must.
Clearly the CPC forces prefer to continue their attacks and their media allies clearly support them, and alas too many voices in the centrist media that should know better are going along with it for whatever reason(s). Let us hope the citizenry is still too awake and aware of how they have been played by that media in the Harper years and the last election campaign to allow this to have any real effect beyond the already CONvinced.
The only way to defeat ISIS/ISIL/Daesh is to defeat Saudi Arabia and Qatar - because, new variations will appear otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI expected this. They're taking a page from the Fox News/Wingnut playbook from the US after the two election wins of Obama.
ReplyDeleteTrudeau isn't going to deal with the racism and "he's not born here!" conspiracy theories from nutcases, but he is going to have to deal with being son of Pierre and the constant barbs of "he's not his dad." He isn't going to be his father because he is Justin.
This is the shrieking of sore losers who expected their allegedly brilliant and calculating but oh so lazy and inept hatefilled long attrition campaign would sweep them back into power only to be beaten not by the NDP (which they kind of expected) but by the son of the man they hate so much and spent so much time/money/energy trying to bury.
If the stakes weren't real then this would be hilarious to watch.
What really angers me is that the CBC our public broadcaster is joining in with the swarming of Trudeau. It needs a clean out from top to bottom. I will write the new minister.
ReplyDeleteAs a supporter of the CBC for most of my 60 years, it saddens and angers me as well and I agree that the CBC needs a top to bottom cleansing.
DeleteRosie Barton and her regular CON 'guests/panel' on Power and Politics are nothing short of venomous when the subject is Liberals or Trudeau. Get over it, Rosie. The CONS lost. At least Evan Soloman kept his love of the CONS in check for the most part.
What??? I never got the impression that Evan was a Con supporter.
DeletePostmedia is in desperate financial shape and that with their utter disbelief that Harper is gone has given way to these panic stricken articles.

ReplyDeleteThe corporate media invests in arms as well as mining, oil and any other exploitative investments they can in order to make the largest possible profits on their investments. They have discredited themselves by almost unanimously supporting the Cons in the last election and they are charting a course to oblivion, by cutting staff and reducing coverage. The real information is on the internet not ever covered by Postmedia who are only assisting the military industrial complex, who make a lot more money building planes and bombs than they do on the ground. What better way to continue a war than by indiscriminately bombing people. Does anyone thing a bunkerbuster bomb in the heart of Toronto would "calm" Canadians down or would it lead them all to expect retaliation. The shock and awe tactics of the big companies supplying arms to kill millions of people are not interested in peace, they are interested in permanent war and destruction as that is how they make their huge profits off our taxes.
