The End of Harperland and the Search for Truth and Justice
I took down this picture from this blog's masthead, where it has been for years.
Because the tyrant has finally been toppled, and it's time to move on.
But if Stephen Harper thinks that I will forget him, or what he did to this country he is sadly mistaken.
For now that we have freedom, I demand justice.
For let's be clear, Harper's foul Con regime was not just an aberration, or a bad government gone horribly wrong.
It was an absolute democratic nightmare, and a decade of darkness.
And I want a full public inquiry into their crimes against Canada...
I want them to explain their actions under oath.
I want a small army of accountants to comb through their financial records to determine to what degree they cooked the books, and whether we really have a surplus after the way they tried to buy the election.
Or why Stephen Harper and his flying monkey Joe Oliver claimed that the economy was rapidly recovering, when the Bank of Canada's latest forecast is far more gloomy.
Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz is warning that the oil price shock could weigh on Canada’s economy for at least another two years.
More worryingly, the Bank of Canada warned that the potential growth rate of the economy may be weaker than expected because of “capacity destruction,” some of which may never come back.
But even more urgently than all that financial corruption, I want to know to what degree they have corrupted our democracy.
I want to know whether the Cons ordered the Canada Revenue Agency to go after their enemies. The scientists, the environmentalists, the bird watchers...
And so many others who dared to criticize Stephen Harper.
And were muzzled for daring to speak out...
I want to know the real reason the Cons gutted the census and left us stumbling in the darkness of our own ignorance...
I want to know to what degree the depraved dictator turned our military into Harper's Army, or our security forces into Harper's Police...
I want to know if they have been spying on us, and how far down the road we are to becoming a police state.
I want every single member of this Con board fired.
And of course I want our new government to scrap or demolish Harper's plans to build this ghastly monument to himself...
Because it offends our eyes and our values, and he doesn't deserve one.
So yes I do want to move on. I want to start rebuilding our country.
Like Rick Mercer I want Canada's 42nd Parliament to be a new beginning...
But there cannot be freedom without justice.
As Robin Sears writes, the country may be returning to normal, but there are important lessons to be learned.
There are bitter lessons to be learned from first tentative, then full-blown invasion by the politics of class, race, gender, religious and ethnic division into the usually less welcoming body of inclusive Canadian society.
“Lest we forget,” it will be important to pass those lessons to future generations. How close we came to lasting damage, and how important it is to resist the fatal temptation of that poisonous politics when next it slithers into view.
Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.
Harper's reign of terror must be investigated, so it can never happen again.
And if there is to be justice, the truth must be exposed.
And the guilty must be punished...

You are so right Simon. We should have a criminal investigation into the malicious behaviour of these criminal reform cons!!!! These ignorant self serving waste of human flesh should be put on trial for treason against our now beautiful Canada, and all should be resigned to spend time in those super jails that are so fitting for Hitler Harper and his equally morally depleted boot licking puppets!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehi anon...yes, to me it would be unthinkable, and a betrayal of all of their many victims, if we were to let the Cons get off scot free. It's not a matter of revenge, it's a matter of basic justice. We must investigate their crimes so no government can ever do that again....
DeleteAnd now maybe the hard working people in what is left of the Veterans offices can now turn on the heat!!!!! These people had to contact Ottawa to turn up the heat in their buildings, had to supply even their own pens and other office supplies!!!!!!!! Meanwhile Hitler Harper was withholding funding!!!!!!! That arse should be jailed first!!!!!!+

ReplyDeleteHere's a good place to start an investigation.
hi Morlock....yes I remember that ghastly assault on Gaza, and how harper and his Cons were the only western government that did not urge the war criminal Netanyahu to stop murdering women and children. Or just as sickeningly, refused to allow wounded Gaza children to come to Canada to be treated, even though our hospitals were ready to receive them For that alone I could never forgive them...
DeleteI notice all the conservative folks on the political shows keep insisting that harper lost the election because of campaign strategy and his bad personality. Well I voted against him because of his destructive policies which were destroying the Canada I wanted to live in. The bad personality and the strange, bizarre election campaign he ran really had very little to do with it other than to make me wonder if he was al there.
ReplyDeletehi anon...yes I've noticed that, and also noticed that Cons like Kenney and Rempel are going around saying it was just a matter of "tone." When of course it was a revolt against their murderous bigotry and their corruption and their incompetence. The MSM, with a few honourable exceptions, never saw the man as the monster he was, and for that the verdict of history will be a harsh one....
DeleteI'm in total agreement with everything in this post. Time for some accountability. They shouldn't just be allowed to walk away.
ReplyDeletehi anon....yes, as i said in my post, I couldn't be happier that we can have a new beginning in this country. I want to focus on the positive. But the way the Cons intimidated and politicized government departments and our security forces must be investigated if our democracy is to remain strong....
DeleteSimon, that's a great synopsis for starters on pursuing what should rightfully be a full public inquiry into this corrupt regime, however, what we're most likely to see are a series of acolades and docu-mercials about the triumphs of the harper years, tough decision maker, economic/strategic genius yada yada yada....
ReplyDeletehi bcwaterboy....yes it's just a quick list of things, and I'm sure I could add many more. But unless the enemy within is uprooted, and the collaborators are exposed, they will remain hidden until the moment they emerge to threaten our democracy again. But as for positive documentaries on the Harper years, I challenge anybody to come up with them. For after the naked bigotry of the Con regime, they would only look as bad as them...
DeleteGood luck with all that, Simon..do you honestly believe that Trudeau wants to dredge up any memories of the old FedLibs ghastly crimes?
ReplyDeleteJust like Nixon, Harper will be pardoned or ignored until he fades away, and that can't happen soon enough, in and of itself...
Why does anyone expect anything different? You all supported Trudeau, at dire cost to the true progressives in this country, and all the possibilities to truly free ourselves from wannabe Emperor Steve's grasp..now let's sit back, grab the popcorn, and watch Trudeau hedge his bets for the next four years...you saw it here first, but I really want to believe that I'm just being a cynic...
This isn't the French Revolution and heads, unfortunately won't roll...this is corporate North America, where the chess pieces are simply shifted around, but the game's the same, and it's stacked against all but the 1%...
Miz unfortunately you win because you are right. Harper may get bitten but he will walk scott free because he served his masters the 1%...
Deletehi mizdarlin...I think Justin Trudeau is an incredibly refreshing symbol of generational change, and although I did vote for the NDP, I'm really glad he is Prime Minister. The NDP ran the worst campaign I have ever seen, there was nothing progressive about it, they allowed themselves to be outflanked on their left by the Liberals, and although I'm sorry that some good MPs were defeated they brought down the roof on their own heads.
DeleteIf they had better represented change, and been ahead of the Liberals in the last few weeks, they might have benefited from the same wave of change. And no this isn't the French Revolution, this is an aging and moderately conservative or cautious country. But investigating whether the CRA was used as a political weapon should be relatively simple and couldn't be more urgent. As for whether we can summon up the real change we need to save our country and our planet that depends as it always does on us the people.. I know i will keep fighting for it until the day I die...
Simon, ... I'm with you. Any suggestions for how people could mobilize to make this happen?
ReplyDeletehi thwap....I haven't given it much thought, but I will be sending a letter to my MP and suggesting that we need at the very least an investigation into the CRA. And if we get that, it could lead to bigger things. Now that the Cons are gone, I'm sure there are many decent civil servants who will be willing to step forward and tell their stories. But one thing is for sure, now is not the time to rest on our laurels....
DeleteAs soon as the Trudeaumania wears off Simon, I think we will be back to fighting Ottawa again. At first it will look good, but as poverty, women's rights and job deterioration is seen to continue and worsen, we will be trying to put pressure on the Liberals to stop the austerity that they themselves introduced in the 1990s under Cretien and Martin. Then there is Bill C51 and the distinct possibility that Blair will be a cabinet minister. In BC we haven't forgot Dr. Pepper and the Cretien chokehold either. To quote from the article from the Tyee, "Canadians have elected a Liberal majority that, as many observers have suggested, looks strikingly like something out of the 1990s -- the decade when the federal Liberals invented Canadian homelessness, gutted the CBC, and devastated federal transfer payments for health care." http://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2015/10/22/NDP-Strategists-Failed-the-Left/?utm_source=daily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=221015
ReplyDeletehi John....maybe I've been swept away by Trudeaumania, but I think a lot of people are underestimating Justin. I am not one to dwell on the past, like those who claim the NDP can't be a good government because of what Bob Rae did in Ontario. Times change and since the need for action on such things as climate change can only get more urgent, I wouldn't rule anything out. The past need not be a guide to the future, and we can all do our part to make sure it isn't....
DeleteSimon, your suggestion are nice, but the reality is, that all costs a lot of money. Money which can better be spent on ensuring clean water for First Nations, a better infrastructure, more money for Veterans, etc. To conduct enquiries takes not only money, but time and energy, which can be put to better use, making Canada the country it once was.
ReplyDeletethe new Parliament can simply pass leg. to revoking the leg. Harper and his Cons passed, replacing the head of the RCMP, and opening the Kits Coast Guard station.
With enquiries we will simply give the Cons another opportunity to "explain" their actions. It extends their time in the sun, so to speak. There will be enough things which come to light when new cabinet ministers and their staff are up and running. Lets look towards the future and the light and put the dark past behind us. We know what happened. We know how it happened. Now lets bury it. In the long run nothing will be gained.
We know John Duncan refused to sign the documents for new homes in Appawaskatt after the band won their court case against having their band placed in third party hands. I'd rather the new minister just sign the documents and get those new homes to that band and the others. John is gone.
What happened to the Vets is criminal, but lets not dwell on it. The Liberals promised to re-open the 9 offices. Lets just do that and not spend money on an investigation. Lets simply settle the court cases with the Vets and everyone can move on.
the inquiry we do need, is the one into the murder/missing First Nations women. that will be costly enough. We cannot tie this country up looking into the "criminality" of the cons. Lets move on. I know if we do not learn from the past we are doomed to repeat it, but in this case, we will learn about the things the Cons did over a number of years. it is up to the press to report it or bloggers, as the new government issues its press releases.
Hi EAF ... my comment below (Anonymous 4:03PM) was NOT meant for you ... Your above comment was NOT there when I responded to the others ... my apologies if U think it was for you ... TY
Deletehi e.a.f...I'm sorry, I hear what you are saying, but any money spent on assuring the safety of our democracy is money well spent. Now is not the time to rest on our laurels, the Cons are still intact and now they are down, it's time to kick them in the head. We must continue to attack and degrade them so that hopefully there won't be much left of them by the time the next election rolls around. They are the enemy within and they must be uprooted and destroyed....
DeleteGood Grief ... Why do people insist on bringing up things that happened over 10 years ago??? ... What about these horrid 10 years of PMOcchio??? ... or has that already been forgotten since October 19??? ... The TROLLS (above) need to give their head a shake ... How much is Steve's party paying you to write your BS on this website??? ... Someone needs to learn to live in the present ... It's like BiBi now blaming the Palestinians for The Holocaust ... PATHETIC ... TY
ReplyDeletehi anon...I agree with you, as I told John, we must not live in the past. As I pointed out, that can and has been used against the NDP as it is against the Liberals. What we must concentrate on is punishing the Cons for what they have done to our country over the last ten years. For nothing the Liberals or the NDP ever did could be compared to that. My slogan has always been the same.: I don't just want to defeat the Cons, I want to destroy them....
DeleteYeah, Simon. Like that idiot e.a.f. says, let's turn a blind eye and pretend it all never happened like o-bomb-a did for the shrub (little bush for all you not-too-bright types). We can just put on the rose colored glasses and let that fucking psychopath and his demonic minions walk scott free. And let's dredge up some more ancient, meaningless history to hide the fact that we're just a con troll that doesn't realize that its party finally got a small portion of its just rewards. Yeah...Yeah...That's the picture!
ReplyDeleteFuck justice! It's time for vengeance for all the people the CONS have hurt in this last 9 1/2 years.
And fuck that cheezy quote about sayeth the lord. Look at guys like cameron and bush and crosby and rove and cheney and o-bomb-a and then tell me that the lord gives a fuck about wielding just and proper vengeance against the truly wicked. Horseshit!
hi anon...please don't insult e.a.f.. he's a good guy. Even if on this occasion I honestly believe he's wrong. I can understand why some Canadians just want to turn the page, after the nightmare we've just been through. But to give the Cons a pass for what they did to Canada, like no other government before them, is to me unthinkable. For if we don't try to destroy them now that they are weakened and down, they will come back to haunt us, and they will try to destroy us. Show them no mercy, take no prisoners...
DeleteWhen I click on the word "fired", it is not linked to any article.
ReplyDeleteHi A. 6:48. its the " idiot e.a.f." here. I did not say lets turn a blind eye or pretend it didn't happen. I said we know what happened and why but lets get beyond that and undo what harper did.
ReplyDeleteNo one has ever considered me to have rose coloured glasses. I'm quite aware of what Steve and his Cons were, if you checked what I have commented on over the years on this blog.
If you want to "fuck justice" its time for vengeance...." then we are no better than the Cons. That is what they did. they took vengeance on all those who they disliked and opposed them or did you forget about CRA auditing churches and charities if they opposed steve and his Cons. We don't have to go that route. we are better than that.
Now as to "the lord", don't really know what that is about, not being a Christian and all. No one is asking anyone to forgive the Cons. What I am suggesting is we do not waste time, money, energy, etc. on them. that we move forward with a new agenda which will benefit all Canadians. the best revenge in life is living well, so a friend told me many years ago. it would be much better and irate Steve and his Cons much more to see a progressive government which cared about its citizens, provided housing for the homeless and raised taxes on corporations. That would drive Steve crazy. To see the new P.M. attend climate change conferances and work towards Canada reducing its emmisions and having corporations meet targets.
My point is why spend tens of millions of dollars investigating the Cons and their dirty tricks when the money could be better spent on infrastructure, opening Veteran Affairs offices. Harper refused to meet with Premiers or sign the National Health accord. it'd rather see Trudeau meet with the premiers and work out a new National health Accord then spend money on seeking vengeance on the Cons.
Remember the Cons, as terrible as we may have thought they were, were elected by the citizens of this country, and formed government 3 times. After this election they still have enough M.P.s to form the official opposition. That is what a democracy is all about. If we seek vengeance after an election we are no better than the Cons, and dicatorships.
The politicians you mention were all duly elected by the citizens of their countries. that is democracy. Just for the record, in my opinion there is no lord or god and that non existant person does not wield any vengeance against any one.
Seeking vengeance is such a waste of time, counter productive. Seeking justice is much better. Now I'd suggest you go sleep it off.
Now now boys and girls. Here I am a different I learned from travels out of the country. Never been to Japan but met Japanese in other countries. Now they had a fascinating saying that went thus "Every coin has a face and a back." So Simon you have one side of the coin E.A.F has the other side of the same [note the word same here] coin. They are both valid. Which is the better option?
ReplyDeleteMy grievous side wants worse revenge than Simon that appeals to my emotions. I want the lot of them locked up for life. My other-side of the 'Japanese coin' would tend to side with E.A.F., which appeals to my reason. We know we learned we should never make that mistake again if we are to consider ourselves as an intelligent species, yes?
They are both worth investigating but let's not fall into the con's trap of flinging mud at each other and not moving forward one way or the other as unified Canadians. Otherwise they win and walk up the middle dragging others along then we loose. After all is that not what democracy is all about? Put it all on the table then decide the best option. Anon don't start the mud fest because now you look like the con wolf in sheep's clothing hiding amongst us. Do you see that?
Harper fucking succeeded he divided us no don't let that continue. We can have rational debates without the con kids telling us the rules of debate.
Cheers to all,
mogs
I was just checking a LINK ... there was a BOOK REVIEW by John Ibbitson:: 'The Big Shift Explains Why Stephen Harper will keep on Winning' ... ... I actually thot it said "The Big Shift Explains Why Stephen Harper will keep on WHINING' ... LMAOOOOOO ... The "whining" would be more appropriate ... LOL ... TY
ReplyDeletePerhaps God took care of Harper and allowed him to lose the election this time, because Harper and his minions were giving God a bad name. 8-)
ReplyDelete"It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them." (Deuteronomy 32:35)
Must watch video! Matty Matheson: On Stephen Harper's Trail

I would fire 7 of these 9 people. The 7 who contributed to the Cons.

Never forget
ReplyDeleteI lived closer to Sarajevo than Montreal for a good part of my life. The same passion Harper hopes to exploit was what gave us Sarajevo and the Holocaust but in some ways it the same old way of doing things.
Today he is only baiting, does anyone think tomorrow he will be catching?
