A New Poll Suggests the Cons Are In Third Place
It's never easy for me to leave Scotland, the idyllic little country where a progressive government has driven the Cons to extinction.
And it wasn't easy for me to blog as I biked from one small fishing village to another with my lap top in my haversack. But I did my best, for this time I couldn't wait to get back.
And this couldn't have been a better homecoming present.
The NDP would lead a minority government and Thomas Mulcair would be Canada’s prime minister if elections were to be held today, a new poll by Léger suggests.
Support for the NDP party nationwide is at 33 per cent, as compared to 28 per cent for the Liberal Party and 27 per cent for Stephen Harper’s Conservatives, the survey of 2,095 Canadians conducted Aug. 10 to Aug. 12 for the Journal de Montréal and Le Devoir found.
For it suggests that the Cons are on their way to extinction in this country as well.
The results represent a slight uptick for the NDP and the Liberals, whose ratings increased by one per cent and three per cent respectively, over poll results taken last month. The Conservatives, meanwhile, slumped five per cent.
And this is also great news.
If the Federal Election of October 19th results in a minority government, a majority (63%) of voters would ‘support’ (30% strongly/33% somewhat) ‘the Liberals and NDP cooperating together to form a government to prevent the Conservatives from governing again’, according to a new Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Global News.
Because it suggests that the desire for change is now so strong that many progressives are prepared to put aside their partisan differences, and unite to destroy the Con regime.
Which as you know, like this Star reader, has always been my dream.
Gosh. I should leave the country more often eh? If this is what happens when I'm away.
But now I'm back and more charged up than ever.
Thanks for bearing with me, even when I didn't have enough computer time to answer your comments.
Now lets's get ready to fight those filthy Cons harder than we ever have before, and drive them to extinction.
As they have in Scotland...
Land of fighters and dreamers.
Now let's take back OUR beautiful country.
And defeat this monstrous tyrant...

Polls change everyday Simon. You know that as well as I do. There are still a few weeks before election day so I am not counting those latest polls. Some of us vote according to who we do not want to win.

hi Irene....I know polls can change, and as they change I will report them. And when you say this:
DeleteSome of us vote according to who we do not want to win.
You do mean Stephen Harper. Or am I mistaken?
The only poll that really counts is the Oct. 19 poll. Michael Harris has pointed out that many polls are politically driven, and data collection is easily shaped to get the result you want. Recall that a few weeks before the Alberta election, no one expected the NDP to win. Ditto for the B.C. election--only the internal polling of the BC Liberals (Liberal in name only!) showed that Christy Clark would win again.
ReplyDeletehi David...yes polls are only polls. However it should be pointed out that Leger was the polling outfit to best predict the result of the provincial election in Alberta....

The language, the tropes, the expectations are virtually identical to the Nixon-spectacle. What did the prime minister know, and when did he know it? The nation’s media are holding their collective breath while Canada awaits the most anticipated political witness since John Dean took the stand in Washington 42 years ago.

4. It's the cover up, not the crime
The real issue should be the fraudulent expense claims. But the PMO's determination to massage and control and manipulate has made the story about the cover up — and, as Watergate demonstrated, that's what people remember most. That's why the phrase "We are good to go from the PM" will live on in political history books.
hi David...I agree that for the purposes of history the PMO cover up is the real story. And I certainly hope that "we are good do go" will resonate through time as Nixon's "I am not a crook..."
DeleteIt is, I believe, a given that the Harper CPC's take it as a given that the electorate is a bunch of suckers. What I believe this time around is that the Harper has stretched reality so far that even his so called base(and I hate that reference) is questioning his judgement. And so it should be. This PM represents no one other than his self.
ReplyDeletehi anon...yes Stephen Harper regards the electorate as idiots, and his Con base as malleable suckers. But he has offended even some of his most loyal supporters, and for a leader in his desperate position that could prove fatal...
DeleteHello Simon. Bonne fête nationale des AcadienNEs (nord et sud) et joyeuse Fierté Montréal.
ReplyDeleteHarper "brille par son absence" as one says in French, at Fierté. All the other "major party leaders" (The Greens and the Bloc are included ... except for Harper). Good riddance, but as with the former mayor Ford, a clear snub showing his contempt for LGBTQ people. Hope the contempt will be mutual.
Beautiful photo of a fishing village, and fine weather for Scotland!
hi Lagatta...thank you and bonne fête(s) to you. I did notice the homophobe Harper was the only leader not to attend the LGBT parade. I'm glad you like that photo of the little village of Finocherty, because it is a really beautiful place. And amazingly enough the weather was great most of the time I was in Scotland, after what has been a very cool and rainy summer...
DeleteHi Simon My problem with the Léger poll is that nearly half the respondents were from Quebec While the resultes were weighted I remain leery until I see other polls mirroring this result.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that I am hopeful At issue panel on Duffy attracted a record 3 million viewers and PnP also enjoying huge audiences People are paying attn.
Add in nightly pics of Harper sweating profusely trying to deflect media questions and I'd be surprised if the polls don't take a turn for the worse
hi Kev...yes you're right, the poll is weighted towards Quebec, and I too will wait to see if its results are supported by other polls. But the trend lines are very encouraging, and hopefully the daily damage of all those shots of Harper sweating profusely and dodging questions will dent his popularity even further. It plays into the desire for change and it can only help us...
