Stephen Harper and the Days of Drums and Dummies
He's rushing his dangerously flawed anti-terrorist bill through the House of Commons, to the machine gun beat of a fascist drum.
Bill C-51, the government's proposed anti-terror law, has passed second reading in the House of Commons with a vote of 176-87 and will now be sent to committee.
He didn't bother to show up for the debate, he cut it off after a few hours. He says he needs the bill NOW to protect us from the terrorists and the niqabs that are EVERYWHERE.
Even though the bill threatens our freedoms more than the terrorists do, and he's just playing politics.
If the Conservative government’s new anti-terrorism bill isn’t really designed to lead us to an Orwellian world, their handling of the debate is almost there.
The government basically says there’s no point to much more talk. The public wants action. Just look at the polls.
And the way he is trying to ram it through Parliament tells you all you need to know about its fascist nature.
But of course he needs to act quickly, before more Canadians understand what's in the bill and why it's so threatening.
Two things are clear: First, the Conservatives think this bill will help them win an election, and second, they don’t want people to understand it. That’s a bad combination for a bill that will change things in secret, in ways we won’t know for years.
Because one other thing is also clear, right now many Canadians are clueless.
If you saw a Globe and Mail headline from last week, you may have been left with the impression that Bill C-51 is a "political juggernaut."
But who knows what any of this actually means? A closer look at the fine print shows that a majority of the poll's respondents said they had either not heard about Bill C-51 or had "just scanned" a story / saw a headline. In Quebec alone, a full 69% of respondents indicated they had no in-depth knowledge of the bill before answering the poll.
But as I pointed out the other night, at a lot of people in this country are working hard to educate them.
And when those dummies find out what's in the bill, and what the Harper Police could do with it, I think it's safe to say many of them won't be happy...
Especially when they also understand that Jason Kenney has also been lying to them about the new powers the bill gives CSIS...
That’s why it was so chilling to hear Jason Kenney, the Defence Minister, employ misleading language when he said the bill “doesn’t give new power to police or intelligence agencies but rather to judges, to courts.”
That’s not true. This bill does give new powers to intelligence agencies. Among other things, it gives CSIS a new mandate to disrupt threats by unspecified methods.
As they will, because we've got that one on TAPE.
And we will use it against them in the next election campaign.
When among other things we will ask Canadians whether they really want a political pervert like Stephen Harper to read their e-mails, or creep out their computers?
Because that's how we will portray him, as crudely as he portrays his opponents.
And of course, when more Canadians also understand that he's just trying to scare them or scam them stupid for crass political purposes.
They'll be even more annoyed, having soiled their pants for nothing eh?
Or a shadow on a wall...
David Parkins/Globe and Mail
You know, if he wasn't so crazed Harper would have realized that he needed to tread lightly, lest he scare Canadians more than the terrorists.
But by now he is too diseased and desperate to think rationally, so he has already overplayed his hand. His depravity has betrayed him.
And his own monsters will consume him...

You don't have to sell that bill tonight

hi David...nice song, The Cons couldn't have chosen a worse person than Roxanne James to defend Bill C-51. A crazy old homophobe who dresses always in black. Every time she opens her mouth the bill gets less popular...
DeleteAfter reading this, Simon, I didn't know whether to 'laugh or cry'! When you wrote, that right now, at this present time, that 'many Canadians are clueless'........You HIT THE NAIL FIRMLY ON THE HEAD!
ReplyDeleteIf Canadians aren't willing to stand up for themselves, then they deserve what they get. When WWIII starts, it will be too late. DUH????
hi Kathleen...the surveys speak for themselves, people say they support something they don't even understand. It's a natural reaction I suppose, at a time when Harper and his Con fascists are cranking up the Fear Factor. But the Fear factor will fade, and I'm still confident that sanity will prevail...

Deletehi Hugh...I congratulate Murphy for doing the right thing for once. But of course nothing could make me watch it... ;)
DeleteWhen Bill C-51 is enacted into law, your blog will be terminated by CSIS/RCMP for it's hate/fear/smearmongering.... believe it....
ReplyDeletehi anon...well you seem to be making the same argument I'm making. Thank you. Lord Harper says the bill is meant to fight terrorists, but we know he just wants to intimidate his opponents. And good luck closing down this blog. I would make a million bucks, suing them in court. Finally, let me assure you the Cons will be terminated by Canadians long before they terminate anyone. And then of course we will direct the security services to arrest people like you, because you sound REALLY dangerous... ;)
