The other night I told you how the Harper Cons have launched an all out assault on Justin Trudeau, the biggest since their smear campaign against Michael Ignatieff.
By among other things running ridiculous ads in ethnic communities, like the one above, to target Trudeau's views on marijuana.
Stephen Harper’s Conservatives want to talk pot. Specifically, they want to talk about Justin Trudeau’s admission that he smoked marijuana with friends a few years ago, while an MP, and the Liberal Leader’s support for legalization.
And as if that wasn't bad enough, they're also trying to compare marijuana to crack.
When reporters asked Treasury Board President Tony Clement this week what he thought about Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s experience with crack cocaine, Mr. Clement brought the message back to Mr. Trudeau.
Asked if he believes smoking pot is an offence of the same magnitude as smoking crack, Mr. Clement said it is wrong to distinguish between illegal drugs.
When in fact it isn't wrong to distinguish between marijuana and crack cocaine. And to not do so is CRIMINAL.
Because while marijuana is a relatively harmless non-addictive drug. Crack is a highly addictive drug that can KILL you.
According to Health Canada, long-term use of cocaine can lead to erratic behaviour, psychosis, sleeping and eating problems, impotence, heart problems, nose and sinus problems, breathing problems and birth defects. Smoking cocaine, says CAMH, can also cause a potentially fatal condition called "crack lung," which has symptoms ranging from severe chest pains and breathing problems to fever.
Or have terrible mental and physical consequences...
And while almost nobody in Canada supports legalizing crack or other dangerous drugs, most Canadians are in favour of legalizing marijuana. And many have smoked it without consequence.
An alcohol-and-drug-use monitoring survey conducted by Health Canada in 2011 found that 39 per cent of Canadians had used marijuana at some point in their lives and one in 10 had used it within the previous year. No other illegal drug had been used be even one in 100 of us.
In addition, while a Forum Research survey conducted this year suggested that 70 per cent of Canadians want to see marijuana legalized or at least decriminalized, other polls suggest support for loosening restrictions on other illegal drugs hovers at 10 per cent or less.
To make matters even worse the Con assault has both the NDP and Justin Trudeau on the defensive. When they have nothing to apologize for, unlike Peter Mackay.
Justice Minister Peter MacKay took time at the end of a news conference last week to castigate Mr. Trudeau for talking about marijuana at a school on a reserve west of Brandon – even though it was the high-school students in the room who prompted the discussion and the Liberal Leader prefaced his response by warning that marijuana is dangerous for young people.
Because unlike marijuana, alcohol is the MOST dangerous drug. Binge drinking is a real problem for young Canadians.
For some people, binge drinking may be a rare occurrence, while for others it may happen often. Either way, binge drinking can have serious consequences. It can lead to poor judgment and impulsive behaviour that could result in embarrassing moments, high-risk sexual contact, fights, accidents, and so on. Another serious potential consequence of binge drinking is alcohol poisoning, which can lead to permanent brain damage or even death.
And Peter "Bong" MacKay is no example for ANYONE...
He's the poster boy for binge drinking.
And if you follow the Con logic he should NEVER have been appointed Justice Minister. And should resign TOMORROW.
And BTW so should Stephen Harper eh?
Because he's no example either...
Shame on him. Does he have any idea how many Canadians alcohol kills every year. Or how may others have their lives, and the lives of those who love them, ruined by that highly addictive drug.
I mean just look what it's done to his good buddy Rob Ford...
Is THAT what he wants for our children?
And when can we arrest HIM?
Oh boy. Let's me be clear, as Great Handcuffs Leader likes to say.
The debate over whether or not to legalize marijuana has lasted long enough in Canada. The real crime is sending so many mostly young Canadians to jail for smoking it.
And the real choice is whether we will go forward into the future as a modern enlightened nation.
Or go back to the 1950's with Stephen Harper and his Con
Yup. Enough is ENOUGH.
Legalize marijuana, fight organized crime, save our children.
Send this monstrous Con criminal to rehab.
Or the place he belongs....

ReplyDeletethe cons simply are looking for material to use against everybody but themselves. Most of what they say is simply nonsense.
hi e.a.f....I don't drink and have never taken any hard drugs because I'm scared of them. And I don't smoke much marijuana because (a) it makes me feel like smoking a cigarette and (b) I can't afford it. But when I do have a toke I enjoy it, and there is no way it can be compared to a drug like crack. And as As I said in my post comparing the two is not just dumb, it's CRIMINAL...
