Stephen Harper and the Road to Armageddon
Well there he was today in his crumbling bastion of Quebec City, in the province of the fiery nightmare, looking as shaken, or just plain weird, as I have ever seen him.
Trying to reply to Obama's humiliating slap in the face.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper responded Friday to U.S. President Barack Obama's dim view about whether the Keystone XL pipeline would spur significant job growth, holding firm to his belief that the project will boost employment "on both sides of the border" and bolster the continent's long-term security.
But never daring to challenge his figures.
Obama has downplayed the impact the pipeline would have on job creation, describing it as a potential "blip" for the overall economy. He said this week that he expected Keystone would create 2,000 construction jobs, and as few as 50 permanent jobs once the pipeline is completed.
While simultaneously flogging TransCanada's almost new/nouveau West-East pipeline as the solution to Canada's problems.
During the press conference, the prime minister told reporters projects such as a proposed pipeline to carry Alberta oil east to New Brunswick help enhance Canada's energy security.
"It's important that Canadians all across the country benefit and important that we enhance our own energy security," he said.
Even though it would carry the same risks, only enrich Big Oil, and would create as few or fewer jobs than the Keystone project.
But we are still expected to clap and cheer, or just feel grateful.
Because now it's not just a project for the enrichment and greater glory of Alberta...
Now it's PAN-CANADIAN eh?
And all of this a day after this report was released.
Not long after the North Pole was turned into a small lake...
And while we wait to see whether this ecological time bomb explodes.
The rapidly melting Arctic is an “economic time bomb” that will cost $60 trillion or more over the next 10 years, say a group of European economic and science researchers. That staggering number approaches the $70 trillion value of the entire world economy in 2012, the scientists say in a comment in the journal Nature.
Along with so many others, whose lights are now flashing red.
And all that talk about "energy security" rings hollow. When all Stephen Harper's pipe dreams are doing are rushing us blindly down the road to Armageddon.
But then why should anyone be surprised eh? When he was always a climate change denier, a shabby oil pimp, or just a kook.
It would take more than one letter to explain what’s wrong with Kyoto, but here are a few facts about this so-called “Accord”:
— It’s based on tentative and contradictory scientific evidence about climate trends. — It focuses on carbon dioxide, which is essential to life, rather than upon pollutants.
And he's still so deranged, still so desperate to be known as the father of the New and Even Greater Alberta, still so unwilling to see the writing on the wall, that he is prepared to wreck the economy in the rest of the country, and torch the planet in the name of Big Oil.
And the good news? He's running out of time. Climate change is advancing so fast it's undermining all his arguments, making him look even more crazy and DANGEROUS.
And there's never been a better reason to defeat him, and drive him and his planet burning oil pimps from power.
Now not just for Canada's sake, but for the sake of the planet, all the babies born today, and all the generations who will follow them.
Before his deranged pipe dreams.
Become our oily ARMAGEDDON...

harper sounds more and more like a guy whose irrelevance is becoming almost unbearable for him so he is grasping at any wild straw now to try and bolster his foundering world image. Sucks to be him and even his own supporters are starting to see the bow going under so they're starting to jump ship before they get too smeared with his shit. What a good day I'm having! :-)
ReplyDeletehi anonymous...You're having a good day too? ;) Yup, Harper really is looking desperate. His economic strategy has been overtaken by events, he's being dragged down by scandal, he's heading for a spectacular wipe out. I better buy a ticket to that show before they're all sold out...
DeleteA golden opportunity now exists for either Trudeau or Mulcair to draw a comparison to harper's job numbers and the impact of just one industry going down the tubes in the name of his big oil pipeline dream. The direct and indirect job loss is staggering and the jobs created by this pipe dream do nothing to fill the gap. It gets increasingly frustrating when these opportunities exist yet none of these have been made stick to the worst PM in Canadian history. His credibility should be completely shot by now if it weren't for weak opposition and a media conspiring to keep this POS in power.
ReplyDeletehi bcwaterboy...yes you're absolutely right, now is the time for the opposition to get it together, and start scoring some real points. I know they're doing their best, but it's still not good enough. Let's hope that when Parliament resumes they come out swinging....
DeleteWho will get the jobs, building this West East pipeline? Canadians or cheap foreign labor?
ReplyDeleteFor the Keystone, Premier Redford promised to hire American War Vets, to build the Keystone, on both sides oft the border.
Petro-China also offered to build the Enbridge pipeline. China said, they have very experienced pipeline layers. They can bring over thousands of Chinese to build the Enbridge very quickly and very cheaply.
Most decent Canadians have been brought up, in a Democracy. We believe in good over evil. Canada is no longer that country because, Harper is a Dictator and, most certainly not a Conservative. Harper has no morals nor ethics, what-so-ever. Harper is of his, Northern Foundation of 1989. Harper brought his vile policies, right along with him.
People need to be very careful of, what they wish for.
hi anonymous...very good question, who will get those jobs? Canadians or cheap foreign labour? Besides since a pipeline once completed requires very few permanent jobs, it's almost irrelevant. And where will that refined oil go I wonder, into the gas tanks of Eastern Canada or all the way to China? THe whole thing looks desperate to me, just another Con scam...
DeleteHey Simon, give him some credit, will you?
ReplyDeleteHe is finally starting to understand, some 40-50 years later, what PET tried to do with his NEP. Ensuring that all Canadians had a secure supply of energy was one of the planks of the NEP. That was why, so PET told us, he wanted to tranport western oil to the Eastern bastards, no?
Harper's just a bit, you know ... slow, eh? That was why he wanted to promote a "firewall" around a landlocked province instead of promoting pipelines at a time when the environmental concerns were almost non-existent. These pipelines to the East would have been already in existence promoting energy security for all Canadians for the last 40 years.
Thus it is interesting to see Harper promoting PET's NEP. What next? Harper claiming he is a long lost brother of Justin? lol
hi anonymous...yes it's ironic eh? The Cons finally caring about the east, and setting up their own kind of NEP forty years too late. Can you imagine how much richer this country would be if the Albertans had acted in the national interest back then? Instead of allowing foreign companies to gobble up their oil fields, and run off with most of the profits. Pierre Elliot Harper, he must hate the idea, but I'm really enjoying it... ;)
DeleteStevie is looking rather flustered these days. He just received a very public and humiliating spanking from Barry. And now Barry is playing him like a cheap plywood violin.
ReplyDeleteBut the big oil money won't get him out of this one. The country, the world, is seeing Stevie as the big oil pimp that he really is. The illusion of Stevie has been revealed as a cheap trick.
And Stevie, a quiet word. Never, ever try to interfere in American elections ever again.
hi anonymous...You know I think that Harper thought he had got away with interfering in the American election. And no doubt many Canadians have forgotten what happened. But I'm sure Obama hasn't, and I'm sure he's enjoying making Harper squirm. Couldn't hapen to a nicer guy, go Barry go.... :)
DeleteIf stevie slime were truly concerned about "energy security" he would simply keep the tar/oil in Canada, for use by Canadians. We would refine it here and use it here. exporting your resources does not make for "security" of anything. Once the product is gone, its gone. No exporting of tar/oil. If we kept it in Canada, we would reduce/eliminate our dependance upon other countries and reduce the cost of gas for Canadians. If Canada felt it was in our best interest we could sell to the Americans for their internal use only. That would actually create long term jobs for Canadians. We would manage the rate at which the stuff was taken out of the ground.
ReplyDeleteOf course that is not what China wants so it isn't going to happen. Whatever caused stevie slime to embrace china in the manner he has, is beyond me, but I'd sure like to know. Here we have a person who proports to be a christian, yet is ready to do business with a country which oppresses christians, for that matter any faith. So stevie slime is either a hipporite or an idiot.
We may well be the last generation, aging baby boomers, who got to see the world as it was, beautiful, reasonably clean, etc.
