Rob Ford: The Beast and the Animals

I try to ignore him. I look away from his ghastly image. I close my ears every time he opens his monstrous pie hole.

I try to delude myself into thinking that I can't possibly be living in Stephen Harper's Canada AND Rob Ford's Toronto at the same time.

I tell tourists I'm from Montreal, and like them I'm just visiting.

But it's no good eh? I just can't ignore an animal show like this one.

The Ford brothers used their two-hour talk radio show Sunday to assail the media, go after opponents on council and take shots at tree huggers, lefties and elitists, but the mayor still would not directly answer to allegations he has been misusing taxpayer-funded staff and city resources to help with his football teams.

Speaking for the first time since the football firestorm erupted last week, Mayor Rob Ford joked he and his wife half expected to roll over in bed that morning and see the media looking in their windows.

Especially since that crass, braying jackass is still threatening to kill my friend Jake...

And some of the other animals at Far Enough Farm.

Since I wrote that story, the farm was given a reprieve until the end of this year, to give its friends a chance to raise money to save it.

And a Concert Fundraiser is planned for next weekend.

It's all very encouraging, but when I swung by the farm the other day to visit Jake.

And my new friend Boot, the recently retired police horse...

I couldn't help feeling sad.

For the beautiful little farm that could be destroyed.

And the gentle creatures who could die with it.

So I made this little video for them...

Aren't they beautiful eh?

Save the poor animals of Far Enough Farm. And all that is decent and gentle about this country.

Defeat the cruel Cons. Hope for a harsh verdict.

Put this beast out to pasture...

Yeah.....because if the NDP was in power no farms would ever be closed, no animals would be run over and all our farts would smell like fresh bread.....some people I tell you...

What I want to know is why there is no mention Woll Smoth in any of this!

    2. hi anonymous...if Rob Ford was a real Mayor instead of a frustrated football coach, he could have found a way to save it. The farm attracts hundreds of thousands of people to Centre Island every year, where it's the only year-round attraction. Just a small percentage of the $7 ferry fares would more than pay for it. It's also a favourite place for poor inner city families to take their kids since it's free. It teaches those kids about rural life, and how to treat animals properly. And besides it's a beautiful little retro Canadian farm, like something out of a child's story book, and for that alone is definitely worth saving....

    5. Everything does not have to turn a profit. A petting zoo managed humanly should be part of growing up.

    6. hi anonymous... surely you mean I Herd U Liek Mudkips? I remember that meme vaguely from the days when I dared visit 4chan. I'd check to see how it's doing these days, but none of my security devices will let me anywhere near it. However I'm planning to animate porker Ford so that should be almost as good... ;)

  2. That truly is sad, Simon..a place like that here on Vancouver island would be celebrated and supported...
What is it about 'Trana that they keep electiong these freak shows? First Mel, now this...and Ford is even worse, and the fact that Bubba is there to support him definitely gives the town that "Deliverance" feel to the rest of the country...get a grip, Torontonians, and use your precious democracy a bit more wisely next time...

    1. hi Wendi...yes it does make me sad. It would cost so little to keep the farm going, it's a beautiful little oasis in the heart of the city, and I'll be devastated if any of the animals have to be destroyed. As for how Ford managed to get elected, I can only blame that on the fragmentation of the progressive vote, and the ignorance of some voters who fell for his simple solutions and cheap slogans. Because I'm an optimist I like to think it can't happen again, but something has to change if we are going to get a better result next time....

    1. hi Steve....excellent.... good for you, and with a real sound track too. I've been trying to work narration into some videos, but every time I hear my own voice I shudder. However, I'm still trying, and I did get my hands on a great digital music box recently, so who knows what horrors I might come up with.... ;)

  4. Rob Ford doesn't understand the price or the value of anything. Just a stupid, incompetent, braying asshole. Supported by brain-dead hypocrites.

    2. Dear Anonymous,

Who says that there aren't brain-dead hypocrites among the working class? Stupidity knows no class boundaries.

Do me a favour? Please don't respond with an easily-shredded one-liner.

    3. hi thwap....thanks for summing up the situation in such a concise manner. I keep telling myself I shouldn't care, but despite its many flaws I'm rather fond of Toronto, after all these years, and it does deserve better....

  5. hi anonymous....it's tragic that even one working class person should support Ford, since he is a crass millionaire who couldn't give a damn about them. And the fact is the farm is frequented by many poor families who can't afford to take their kids on fancier outings, so Ford is doing them no favours....

Instead of sneering self-righteous lefty like Layton or Miller? They claim to support the working class, but the way they looked down on those who they saw as below them exposed them for slime they were.
