Obama Sends Stephen Harper a Message
The rich should pay more taxes.
“There’s nothing serious about a plan that claims to reduce the deficit by spending a trillion dollars on tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires,” Mr. Obama said of budget proposals put forward by Republicans in the House. “There’s nothing courageous about asking for sacrifice from those who can least afford it and don’t have any clout on Capitol Hill. And this is not a vision of the America I know.”
Medicare is precious.
“We are a better country because of these commitments,” he said. “I’ll go further — we would not be a great country without those commitments.”
Meanwhile in the country that introduced medicare into North America... Stephen Harper says the rich should pay less in taxes.
Even though corporate tax cuts don't help the economy.
A new report from the labour-oriented Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, a non-profit research organization, suggests historic trends show businesses' fixed capital spending has declined as a share of GDP and as a share of corporate cash flow since the early 1980s, despite a series of federal and provincial corporate tax cuts.
Are costing us BILLIONS.
•Canada will have lost $60 Billion in tax revenue between 2007 and 2013 from corporate tax cuts enacted since 2007.
•Canada will have lost a total of $220 Billion in total tax revenue from tax policies enacted since 2007.
•Tax cuts and attendant policies have largely benefited the wealthy and corporations.5 By 2007, the top 1% of the wealthiest Canadian families had less of a total tax burden than the poorest 10% of families.
He won't tell us what government programs, social services, and Canadian institutions he is planning to cut to make up for all that lost money.
And expects us to believe that we should trust him with defending medicare, when he spent fourteen years trying to KILL it?
Oh boy. You don't think it's time to ask Stephen Harper why he is sounding like a Republican ...or an Amerikan not a Canadian? Why he is waging ideological war on this country? Why he is leading us to economic disaster and social catastrophe?
Oh I think so. I think it's time to attack those Cons like they attack us. Stop playing pattycakes and attacking each other.
Or we really will wake up one day in a country we don't recognize....

It is obscene that many millionaires not only pay less in taxes as a percentage of income but in many case also in real terms, then the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteEven some very rich individuals in the US recognize not only the unfairness but also the damage to society in this perverse topsy turvy reality were those who can least afford it pay the most and have started a campaign to end this unjust travesty
