The Campaign, The Fog, and the White Noise
This was what Toronto looked like today from my island refuge, as a thick fog swept in from the lake.
And it seemed like a good metaphor for the kind of day it was on the campaign trail. A day when Michael Ignatieff's message was drowned out again by another mini scandal.
The Harper Cons were able to pose as crime fighters and defenders of women. Promote their Republican War on Crime Plan.
And of course Great Ugly Leader finally said sorry.
Kinda....
In short: a wasted day where the real issues were fogged out by the white noise nobody is hearing.
“The tracking suggests that events reported in the media so far have generally been ‘white noise’ in terms of their impact on the impressions Canadians have of the federal leaders,” pollster Nik Nanos concluded.
My conclusion? Dressing up in a chicken suit might be fun...
But if you want to move the vote, you have to focus on issues that affect people, like medicare, where Harper is vulnerable. And he knows it.
Because nobody has come up with so many wild plans to privatize our health system than he has:
“We also support the exploration of alternative ways to deliver health care. Moving toward alternatives, including those provided by the private sector, is a natural development of our health care system.” (Stephen Harper, Toronto Star, October 2002)
So pretending to be half human on this issue is just about impossible.
Although they're trying...
And as I said yesterday, use it or lose it.
Stephen Harper loves white noise. It's the muzak of tyrants. Don't let him get away with it.
Because as we all know eh?
Out of the fog can come something HORRIBLE....
