Jason Kenney and the Homophobes

Three months ago I wondered why the Cons had omitted any mention of gay rights in their new Citizenship Guide.

But of course I knew the answer.

And now everybody does.

Internal documents show an early draft of the guide contained sections noting that homosexuality was decriminalized in 1969; that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation; and that same-sex marriage was legalized nationally in 2005.

But Mr. Kenney, who fought same-sex marriage when it was debated in Parliament, ordered those key sections removed when his office sent its comments to the department last June.

But still that Con hog LIED.

The gay-rights group Egale Canada met with the minister in early December after learning the booklet made no reference to gay and lesbian rights, and is negotiating with the department to have them included in the next printing, about a year away.

Mr. Kenney told the group that gay rights had been "overlooked" when the guide was being prepared, executive director Helen Kennedy said in an interview from Toronto.

Even though it could cost gay LIVES.

But still some of the best among us deny the existence of the theocon conspiracy.

How can they when the evidence is staring at them in the face?

Those bigot theocons are waging a secret war against our precious Canadian values, and they are planning to limit abortion and EXTERMINATE gay rights.

When will the blinkers come off? When will people understand it can happen HERE.

If even the good people don't see the danger what chance do we have?

When will our leaders have the courage to attack these wretched bigots?

Because I'm fighting for MY life... and the lives of the people I love. And as I said in that other post.

I know who those bastards are...

Fight them. Fight them. Fight them.

Don't let them win....

  1. I guess I don't do tongue-in-cheek very well, because that wasn't really the meaning of my post. Obviously there are some real knuckledraggers in the CPC caucus, and I've posted about them myself many times.

I'm just saying that if our opposition parties want to sway people into voting for change, it's not enough to say "Harper Bad" -- they have to start telling people what's so great about them, other than the fact that they're "Not Harper".

  2. hi JJ...you and I have been friends long enough to know that I don't question your progressive credentials. Or not to know how much I admire you. But the fact is on this issue you are just plain wrong. Nobody as far as I can see is calling Stephen Harper a THEOCONAZIDOG.
Because he's not a Nazi and he is not good enough to be a dog. But he is a bastard theocon and his political thugs are waging a secret war on our most precious Canadian institutions,on feminist and gay groups, and they have to be stopped.
And if I sound frustrated I am, because there is no greater issue as far as I'm concerned, and everyone needs to understand that it CAN happen here...

P.S. That poll you quote was completed ten days before Crosby scored that goal, so don't blame him either... ;)

  3. Jason and the Homophobes: that's one death-metal band I'm going to keep avoiding.

I've got a post up at my place on this. As POGGE says, thank goodness for Access to Information.

  4. Simon - Hmm, talk about a swing and a miss, I'm 0 for 2, as they say.

The meat of the post was about the opposition parties. Particularly the LPC.

I found Iggy's recent faux-outrage over abortion funding to be totally absurd, since his own caucus is infested with socons. So for him to run with the theocon-hidden-agenda meme is a little rich -- what's Paul Szabo? What's Derek Lee? If that's all the LPC's got, it's just sad. See what I mean?

As for the expression, haha, "THEOCONAZIDOG", I've probably called him that at some point myself, but so what? Bloggers weren't the subject of the post. The opposition's hypocrisy, lack of identity & clear agenda were supposed to be the subject.

Hope that's a little more clear.

  5. Love the title, Hate the Jason.
Glad it's out in the open at least - like his reasons for the funding cuts to Kairos.
Simon - what does your Gaydar say about Jay the Bachelor? (I know - what a disgusting thought)
And I think you should send him a Rainbow tie! Or maybe everybody should send him a Rainbow Tie.
    Another good blog, buddy! Thanks!

  6. hi Dr Dawg...I've cooled down enough so thanks for the smile. :)
It's just so frustrating. I just found out that the Con gang at Rights and Democracy has fired the three remaining dissidents. These theocons in the PMO are out of control, and so few Canadians seem to be able to connect the dots. And yes thank goodness for Access to Information, but I just read an article where it says they are trying to make that more difficult.
Oh well...as for that Con band. Jason and the Homophobes ain't a bad name. But I think I prefer the redneck band Deliverance. With Jason Kenney blowing Gideon's trumpet, Stockwell Day playing the banjo...or the harp, Vic Toews on drums, and of course Stephen Harper on the piano. I could listen to them. Once... :)

  7. hi CanNurse...I'm glad you liked the post although as I explained above I'm kicking myself for being such a hothead. But I was so angry I wrote that post in about two minutes flat. :)
Now as to my gaydar...I don't know but lordy I hope not. He is such a sinister Con. And an idiot too. I remember how he vowed years ago to be chaste until he was married. Since he's STILL a bachelor I imagine he's still saving himself. I used to think that was punishment enough, but now I want MORE... :)

  8. hi JJ...Batting zero for two? That's never happened to me eh? Right. :)
Look JJ the truth is, I don't just admire you, I LOVE you. I just happened to read your post and the Kenney story about 30 seconds apart, and I went ballistic. If Sebastien had been here he would have known what to do...order me to walk the dog. And not to hurry back, until my face wasn't as red as a tomato.Ugh.But he wasn't... so sorry.
You're a great human blogger, a super feminist, and a wonderful friend of the gay community.
And together we WILL beat them...

Why are you apologizing when she was defending Harper? I wouldn't trust a boomer as far as I can spit.

  11. hi James...I'm glad you liked my video. I'm working on an improved version with monks chanting in the background...and even more scary stuff.Because with those hideous homophobes in power there's no shortage of material... :)

  12. hi anonymous...look JJ admitted it wasn't her best post. She said she didn't mean what I thought she meant and I believe her.
We all have our bad days and I have more than most.
As for the boomers you shouldn't generalize. Some are grumpy and greedy, but all the ones I know are super progressive and EXCELLENT...

Would you mind pointing out exactly where I defended Harper? Right... you can't, because I didn't.

Stop whining about boomers and start doing something constructive, dumbass.

  14. hi JJ...heh heh heh...I was going to warn anonymous, but I wasn't sure you'd bother to reply. But don't blame all of us eh? As you know I may be dumb and shiftless, and an annoying little shit, but I do LOVE Boomers. In fact, my latest boomer advisor on music from the late sixties and early seventies recently left town, and I feel like killing myself. You're not planning to publish a top 20 list are you? Because that would be helpful... :)

  15. Not you, Simon. You're one of the ones that gives me great hope for the future. But you shouldn't have to pick up the slack for the whiners!!!

  16. hi JJ...why thank you...but sadly I'm always picking up for my slacker friends. And after studying the question closely I have come to the following conclusion: Some old people are getting grumpier, some young people are fools. And you and I are both DOOMED... :)
