When Homophobia Invades the Soccer Pitch

I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to play this soccer team from Paris. But apparently some Muslim team considered them too gay to play.

"Sorry, but because of the name of your team and in keeping with the principles of the team, which is a team of practising Muslims, we cannot play against you," said the e-mail, according to PFG's co-founder and current president Pascal Brethes.....Our convictions are stronger than a game of football."

Even though the Paris Foot Gay team is made up of all kinds of people... gay and straight. And exists to fight prejudice.

"We (PFG) are first and foremost an association which is against homophobia in football," he said, adding the the club had "heterosexuals, blacks, whites, north Africans, and several different religions."

Christians, Jews and Muslims including the coach.

What a pity eh? It could have been an occasion for friendship or at least some new understanding.

Now it'll probably just add to the tensions between some Muslims communities and those who believe in France's secular tradition. And give more ammunition to the Muslim bashers of this world.

I'll never be one of them of course. But I do love soccer. Mixing politics and sport is bad enough, and mixing sport and religion is even WORSE.So I hope the league stands up to these narrowminded fanatics.

And gives them a red card for homophobia.

You don't want to play with others?

You WANKERS.

Then go play with yourselves...

I believe they were worried about being outplayed--if that's the word--and outclassed.

Because then, the truth would bite them in their behinds and force them to face up to facts that don't square with religion and other cultural inculcation.

Too bad, they could have been invited out afterwards for a fabulous dinner and drinks.

  2. hi Torontonian...yeah well it sure would be nice to play them and whup their asses.
But they've already been outclassed. As I said it's really too bad, sports should be a way to bring people together...not drive them further apart.
I'll be watching this one closely...
