The Real Reason Jason Kenney Won't Be Going to the Pride Parade

Well I can't say I'm surprised that Jason Kenney has turned down an invitation to attend Calgary's Pride parade.

Even though the invitation came from an Albertan with way more fans than he does.

Not when Kenney has been an anti-gay bigot for as long as I remember.

For who can forget that disgusting statement?

Or the time when Kenney taunted gay Canadians by telling them if they wanted to get married they could "marry someone of the opposite sex."

Or forget the time he tried to erase any mention of LGBT Canadians from the Harper government's new Citizenship Guide.

Internal documents show an early draft of the guide contained sections noting that homosexuality was decriminalized in 1969; that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation; and that same-sex marriage was legalized nationally in 2005.

But Mr. Kenney, who fought same-sex marriage when it was debated in Parliament, ordered those key sections removed when his office sent its comments to the department last June.

Then deny he had done that.

Asked Wednesday why he blocked any information about same-sex marriage and Charter rights protecting sexual orientation, Jason Kenney said: "I did not do such a thing. No, no, you are wrong."

The minister then disappeared into the Conservative caucus room in the Centre Block of Parliament Hill.

Only to be revealed to be a coward AND a liar.

A memo to Mr. Kenney from bureaucrats at Citizenship and Immigration last June show the sections were removed at the request of the minister's office. Another memo to Mr. Kenney in August indicates bureaucrats were rebuffed when they made a last-ditch request to have gay rights re-inserted in the guide.

And then of course, there's that other reason Kenney probably didn't want to accept k.d. lang's invitation to the Pride parade.

For daring to ask him this question just a few months ago:

After he was accused of trying to out gay kids who joined gay-straight alliances.

Even though some of those some of those kids could be thrown into the street by their own parents, or badly beaten, or even killed.

And you'd think Kenney would know better...

But then that is who he is, and all I can say is this:

May Godzilla help Alberta and Canada if Kenney ever becomes premier.

What a pity he won't go to Calgary's Pride parade.

Because I'm sure he'd look FABULOUS...

And thank goodness we live in a better Canada.

And Justin Trudeau is the prime minister of ALL Canadians....

Words of wisdom from some great Canadians:

"Amour est amour. Love is love." -Justin Trudeau

"The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation." -Pierre Trudeau

"Yes, that's right. You and the horse you rode in on." -K.D. Lang, probably

So k.d. outed Jason! LOL! Good for her. He deserved it after that gay-straight alliance BS. What a prick!

Hi anon...well I don't know whether k.d. Outed Kenney, for who knows whether he is straight, gay, or a eunuch. He's a 49-year-old guy who has sworn a vow of chastity until he gets married. So I think he's capable of being anything, but is probably beyond redemption... ;)

Hi anon...nice. We Canadians owe a lot to Pierre Trudeau and his son. How boring Canada might be if they hadn't existed. And as for the bigots of this world, they should try a little love, and become better and happier people...

Kenney is all about self-loathing.

Simon, I know you like to make fun of Kenney, and as a gay male I understand why you do. But you also need to remind everyone that a lot of LGBTQ people don't find Kenney funny at all. He was allowed to put down gay Canadians for about twenty years, and most other Canadians didn't give a damn.
Kenney and Harper were allowed to openly but discreetly discriminate against more than a million people in this country, and that hurts and it's not funny. So don't forget to point that out.
XXX Daniel.

Seriously Simon? I did not know that. I'd have bet money that he was a closet homosexual much like I believe Harper to be eg. Ray Novak.
That would make them even bigger hypocrites than they already are because we know their base would never accept them for what they truly are. How does one carry on when their life is a complete lie? Sad, no, pathetic.

hi Daniel...I'm sorry you feel that way. I thought my contempt for Kenney and what he has done to the LGBT community shone through loud and clear. I have written almost 200 posts about Kenney and none of them are flattering. And anyone who goes after bullied gay children is my worst enemy. But you're right, I should remind people that the way he has managed to insult more than a million Canadians and get away it is both hurtful and despicable. And I promise to do better next time...

hi JD....yes it's true. Kenney has apparently been able to remain chaste for over thirty years. The reason I don't mention it more often is because the thought of all that self imposed chastity makes me feel faint. But it should be mentioned, because I believe it does help explain what kind of man he has become. i.e. one who desperately needs a life.
As for Stephen Harper, I'm staying away from that one, because I have no evidence that he is a closet queen, only that he loves closets. But all I can say is Cons are really weird people, and thank goodness we're progressives...

hi CuJoYYC...that has always been my belief. In order to hate others you usually have to hate yourself first. And when you mix religion and sexual repression it's a really toxic mix...

We've seen in the American experience how often gay-bashers in high office, political and clerical, turn out to be gay themselves. It has reached the point where when I come across a gay-bashing politician or preacher I question whether their position isn't merely odious but anchored in some darker motivation.

This vow thing is part of his Opus Dei background. Basically strict religious stuff where women are chattel. I wouldn't want to go out with him no matter my gender identity, blech.
