Donald Trump and the Road to Damnation

Well he may look like the man from Glad. But Mike Pence, Donald Trump's choice for vice president, is actually the man from God.

He defines himself as “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.”

And he's really bad news for women and gay people.

But don't ask Pence to explain himself.

Because he'd rather dodge the question...

And that's not the only question Pence is going to have to dodge all the way to the election.

He's going to have to explain why he's a such a vocal supporter of NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, when The Annoying Orange claims he would tear up both of them...

Or explain why when Trump called for a ban on Muslims entering the country, he called the proposal "offensive and unconstitutional."

Or answer these other character questions:

Does Pence think that his famous statement "cigarettes don't kill" says anything about his judgement? Can we really trust him when he's such a good friend of the Koch brothers?

And of course the big one: Since he is a religious fanatic, if he does become vice-president, will he take his orders from President Trumpet or God?

Because God knows we need to know eh?

If he's going to be going to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. And the nuclear button.

And the good news? The only thing he's probably going to help blow up, is the Trump campaign.

For while he will shore up the Republican's religious base, and provide a sober counterpoint to Trump's vulgarity. His beliefs are too extreme for most Americans.

So he's a mixed blessing.

When it comes to Donald Trump selecting Mike Pence as his running mate, the political wisdom is clear. He’s a great choice because he’s a traditional conservative, and he’s a terrible choice for precisely the same reason.

And for Hillary Clinton, he is manna from heaven...

Perhaps the biggest winner of all is Hillary Clinton, who just saw the issues her campaign has devoted itself to – which is to say, women’s issues – thrown into stark relief. As a classic Christian conservative, Pence is known for his opposition to the social issues that are core to Clinton’s constituency, issues like gay rights and abortion access and support for Planned Parenthood.

For Trump's choice of Pence will add even more women and LGBT people to the long list of people who hate him, and give her campaign a big boost.

And this at a time when so many businesses are already boycotting the Trump campaign, the Republicans have been forced to beg for money from Sheldon Adelson to pay for their convention.

Millions of dollars short and running out of time, organizers of the Republican National Convention have written an urgent request for $6 million to Las Vegas billionaire couple Sheldon and Miriam Adelson to cover the bills for next week’s festivities.

You know, Sheldon, Stephen Harper's good buddy...

Which strangely enough seems only too fitting.

For Pence does remind me a bit of Harper.

I'm pretty sure that the Democrats can use him to scare the bejesus out of Americans...

And as you know, I've always believed that Trump will share Harper's fate...

They both claimed to have God on their side.

But they were on the road to damnation.

And in the end NOTHING could save them...

Well well well, looks like Trump was not serious after all. I believed that a significant number of democrats would have voted for Trump. But with this anchor of a running mate, no chance. Get ready for the damnation and Kaos of President Hillary.

Pence sure has "the look" of an honourary Koch Nephew. When I go on a job and spot a company man with that look, I make an extra effort to remain the grey-man and start counting off the minutes until he'll notice the look on my face.

Trumps strategy is to lock in all of the southern states (bible belt) with Pence which leaves him free to troll the northern states for materialistic driven voters with simplistic views. Want to be safe pack a gun .. cops only kill criminals ...make America great again by building walls, scraping trade agreements, deporting all suspicious non whites and making our "allies" pay for protection .. etc. As the target voters are all regionally focused and only hear the parts they want to hear they will never know or care that Trump and Pence are delivering conflicting messages.
Its a good plan but there is a problem as it does not include the northern Republicans and the 1% who happen to like the financial benefits free trade, perpetual war and all of the other perks a subservient government has to offer. The Dems are an option but can't be trusted to stay in line without a strong republican presence. This makes Trump a problem for them.
By naming Pence as VP, Trump is now in a marginalized position as he is flanked on both sides by staunch republicans who intensely dislike him. Not a very healthy position to be in when your number two man is one of them. The chances of it ending well for Trump are slim unless he suddenly decides to resign in order spend more time with his family or gets the Republican brand of religion.

hi Steve...I'm glad you've seen the light at last, and don't worry I don't charge for my advice ;) But honestly how can anyone trust anything Trump says? When he is just a hustler and he is so obviously making it up as he goes along....

hi John B....I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the look of Pence so sinister. I was going to portray him as the man from Glad, but the more I looked at him the more he resembled a James Bond villain. And of course as I said in my post he is a real enemy of women and gay people...

hi anon...you like my annoying orange? I hope so because I'm working on a comic strip where he meets the sinister squeezer... ;)

hi RT....when I first heard the Trump had chosen Pence I thought it was a half decent move, for he definitely adds some gravitas to a campaign that badly needs it. But since Pence's state is already in the Trump camp, and the angry orange already has the support of most evangelicals, I now think Pence will only prevent Trump from expanding his voter reach. And since Trump must be one of the oldest presidents , and is apparently addicted to junk food, the thought that Pence could be only a heartbeat away from the presidency is a scary thought. My guess is that he is going to spend a lot of time talking about his own past, while trying to defend some of the indefensible things Trump says. So although I was hoping for the loser Kim Christie to get the job, I'm not complaining....

Simon, two words: Rob Ford.
Trump can win, especially is racially motivated violence escalates and/or terrorist attacks continue.

hi BW.... Considering the state of America I don't think anyone can rule out a Trump victory. But as I did during the Harper years I'm trying to remain optimistic. Trump does have feet of clay, and barring an escalation of racist violence or a major terrorist attack I'm just hoping that reason will prevail...
