Justin Trudeau and the Death of the Harper Cons

It was the most magical throne speech I've ever seen. The new leader stepping forward. the old one rotting in the shadows.

The promise to take our Canada back.

Justin Trudeau is signalling that his government will make a clean break from the policies and practises of its Conservative predecessors with a relatively short Speech from the Throne that promises a cleaner environment, an enhanced social safety net, and a new era of openness and transparency.

And to make it even more wonderful, the thought of the Cons screaming at the sound of the promise that will destroy them.

And no, those screams didn't come from Rona Ambrose yesterday. She was too busy squawking about bombing ISIS or whatever...

Rona Ambrose, the interim Conservative Leader, said the speech represents a move toward big government and lacks an economic focus.

She also expressed concern that there was no mention of the fight against Islamic State terrorists. “If you’re not prepared to actually name the threat, how are you prepared to take the fight to the threat?” she asked.

Trying to portray Justin Trudeau as soft on terrorism. Again.

But only making herself look even more like Stephen Harper, and even crazier than usual.

And no it wasn't Michelle Rempel either.

She may have been screaming after realizing she had made a fool of herself on Twitter. Again.

And that far from looking like a Great Leader in Waiting, she had ended up looking like a crazed Celine Dion.

Or dare I say it? Somebody who had too many glasses of wine for lunch.

But no, the loudest screams must have been coming from Stephen Harper, wherever he was hiding yesterday. Because he must surely know what this little paragraph in the Throne Speech means:

To make sure that every vote counts, the Government will undertake consultations on electoral reform, and will take action to ensure that 2015 will be the last federal election conducted under the first-past-the-post voting system.

And that as even John Ivison admits, for the Cons it's an existential threat.

When the Governor General mentioned electoral reform, a chill will have run along the Conservative side of the Senate looking for a spine to run down.

The repeated commitment to look at the prospect of electoral reform, specifically use of a preferential ballot system, represents an existential threat to the Conservative Party of Canada. It’s a sleeper issue that could dramatically change the complexion of politics in this country.

For not only could it keep the Harperite cult from power forever.

The reason this is such a hazard for the Tories is that brokerage parties like the Liberals do exceedingly well under ranked ballots. Parties that polarize voters and are rarely picked as second choice, like the Conservatives, fare badly.

The introduction of a ranked ballot system would take the Liberal heels off the Conservatives’ chest and thrust it hard into the party’s wind-pipe.

It would force them to become a very different party.

As one clear-eyed senior Conservative put it, adoption of preferential balloting would force the Tories to “water down” their agenda to become the second choice of more people.

“The reality is, if the Liberals do this, the Conservative movement is going to have to increase its appeal. We won’t be able to afford to be the 35-40% party,” he said.

And destroy what remains of Stephen Harper's legacy.

Which it seems will be bulldozed into rubble just like his monuments.

The federal Liberals won’t fund the Victims of Communism or Mother Canada monuments, sources tell Global News. Both were public-private ventures that garnered the support of former Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative government.

Which will either be demolished, or reduced to the size they deserve...

Or moved to a more fitting location...

And isn't that magical?

He's shrinking before our very eyes.

We finally have the Harper Cons where we want them.

And we really are going to destroy them...

Simon I know these morally depleted, racist ReformCONS do not like drugs.....but..... Someone gotta give that new found lipstick wearing Michelle a sedative!!!!!! She is certainly not doing anything productive to further her self serving cause...or that do the ReformCON nasty base!!!!!! Quite funny that all of Hitler Harper puppets were at the speech but not a sign of the puppet master!!!!! Goes to show what a team player he really is!!!!! Must say it was refreshing NOT to see his mole face and helmet head in OUR house!!!!! Oh Canada it is so great to see you back!!!!!!

Given the confused state of play in the Middle East not naming names may be a good idea. Who knows who will be the problem/enemy or whatever comes up next week.

Ah, a proportional voting system. Somehow I liiikee it.

Harper is going back to Calgary, putting his nose to the grindstone and taking the lessons he learned in over a decade in Ottawa watching the Bloc Québécois at work - and he is going to continue sabotaging Confederation by separating Alberta from Canada.

Have to laugh out loud at one of "The Harper Governments" last throne speeches where cell phone contracts were cited (as something they were going to reform or had reformed, don't remember which one) as an important issue. In a throne speech, really ? We've come a long way!! Yay!!

Rona reminds of that one girl in high school that everyone stayed away from!!!!! The one that never had a friend and never had a date!!!!!!!! What's up with that fat neck of hers!!!!! Is she really a woman????? Proof please!!!!!!!!!!
Proportional voting..... I like it too!!!!!!! Bet ya Rona and lipstick Michelle doesn't!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares what the Cons think about the speech. We're still in the "honeymoon" phase, no mention of the Cons please although the comments regarding Michelle Rempel are funny, but comparing her to Celine Dion, please, I do like that singer. (o.k. I ought to care, they still represent a 100 ridings in our democracy)

Your last two "pics" were very funny and really that said more than all the words. Gave me a very good laugh.

I cant wait to see Michelle Rumphole and Rona Potroast self-destruct in question period. Dumb and dumber part 3 coming soon.

If the word "ISIS" *had* been included in the Throne Speech, then Rona would have said: "This speech from the throne doesn't even mention the word 'Conservative', and if you're not prepared to actually name the threat, how are you prepared to take the fight to the threat?"

If the former "Dear Litre" does show up for Question Period on Monday, he will be sitting to the right (no pun intended) of the House Speaker. Front row? I wonder....

"35-40% party"

Actually, that's only on a good day.

"Rona Ambrose, the interim Conservative Leader, said the speech represents a move toward big government and lacks an economic focus."

And Stephen Harper's version of 'economic focus': using Canadian taxpayer dollars to fund his own ego along with his buddies in the Tar Sands and media and steamrolling of everything of value in this country. There was no 'economic focus'. There was just politics with Stephen Harper. There was no vision, just derision. There was no nation, just manipulation.

Let's not let the idiot continue to conquer and divide. Both of my parents and all grandparent are Albertans. My parents left together in their youth in late 1950s. Alberta today is composed of many transplants, including the idiot Harper. He's actually from Toronto. But where he comes from doesn't matter, he's just evil. Unfortunately he has caused a lot of mal content in this country. Lets try to rise above it. I know both sets of my grand parents would not have liked him. History will be his kindest judge. I don't envy his purgatory.

Yes, that will be lovely.

It was the best Throne Speech Ever. No Omnibus bills no Proroging Parliament no more war on weed, and the best part ... Electoral Reform. The final stake into the shrivelled heart of the Beast. Justin finished him off for us like a real superhero. Even the GG looked happy.
Nanny gate shows us how desperate they are to kill our joy and drag us into their misery. After saving us from that Tyrant Justin and Sophie can have a thousand nanny's for all I care. I love that we call him Justin like he's one of us. I think we're lucky enough to have as our PM what history will look back on as The Greatest Canadian, shove over Tommy Douglas lol. It's gotta be melting the flesh off the Corpse right now, which makes me happier than I have been in 9 years. They must have him medicated right now so I'm not surprised he didn't show up to see Justin return Our Canada to us. Sunny Ways for at least 4 years, hopefully longer. It would be nice to say it's over but but their lies and wild exaggerations continue and the Con Media is only too happy to give them a show to broadcast their hate on. They really are just the north wing of the Tea Party, thankfully without the guns. I hope. Simon I love your blog and sometimes I'll read the first line and then laugh for 5 minutes. The comics ... Love them too, and your (mostly) brilliant commenters ! Happy weekend everyone!! Pamela,

hi anon...yes Rempel is definitely on a tear, and her high opinion of herself is beginning to resemble megalomania. I honestly fear for her mental health, and wouldn't be surprised if her story ends badly. But then of course she is a sommelier or wine expert, so maybe she's just been sampling too many fine Alberta wines.... ;)

Simon said...

his jrkrideau....I agree, the ISIS crazies live for publicity, and the less we can give them the better. And yes, I realize there are many challenges facing Trudeau, but I want to make sure he keeps electoral reform near the top of the list, because keeping the Cons out of power is vital, if we are going to help save the planet...

hi anon 12:51...it will be interesting to see what he does in that regard. I can see him becoming a crypto separatist quite easily. Blame the eastern establishment and the Media Party for stabbing him in the back, and essentially go back to the swamp where he came from. I've also heard that he wants to be a teacher, and actually had a bad dream about that. I dreamed that I went into a classroom and Harper was the professor, and of course rapidly decided it was time to change the course, or the university... ;)

Simon said...

hi anon...you're right, their throne speeches sounded like a list of cheap promises a car salesman might make. Trudeau's was much more dignified, and a thousand times more Canadian...

Simon said...

hi anon 11:44...yes you're right. We can't generalize about any province anymore or stereotype its people. My Canada includes Alberta, and I wouldn't swap our cowboys for anybody else. Although I have to admit that they sometimes drive me crazy, and I do love Maine and Vermont...

Simon said...

hi e.a.f...I'm glad you like those graphics, and I admit in that regard I am going to miss Harper. He was such a grotesque villain he was a joy to caricature. However we still have Kenney, and Rona, and Rempel and Pee Wee Poilievre so I'm not complaining... ;)

Simon said...

hi Dan...yes that's true, only on a good day, and with every passing year shrinking a little bit more...

Simon said...

Hi David...I understand he's going to be in the front row and very close to the exit so he can make a quick escape should the law finally catch up with him... ;)

Simon said...

hi anon...well yes, everything the Cons say about the economy is an absolute farce. They didn't see anything coming, they didn't know what they were doing, and even a billion dollars of porky ads couldn't convince Canadians that they were great money managers. It was all politics, and there was no vision...

Simon said...

hi Pamela...yes it was a great throne speech and I thought the staging was terrific. A real Canadian fest instead of a Harper horror show. And I too feel better than I have felt for years. In fact if the Con media wasn't so biased, and the Cons so bitter and ugly, I might happily give up blogging, and do something else. But I'm always happy to hear people say they enjoy what I'm doing, and I enjoy it as well, so i'll keep this little blog going at least for a few more months...

Wow. The "mania" of Trudeaumania on full display. Jim Jones had less-fanatic disciples. Justin Trudeau is not as bad as Harper, but let's stay within the realm of reality, shall we? Tommy Douglas brought us public healthcare. Trudeau doesn't even claim to have any type of vision that big. He doesn't even support a national daycare program or a tiny increase in corporate taxes.

Lol, Alberta wine, thank you for the chuckle Simon
