The Day Justin Trudeau Left Stephen Harper in the Dust

For years Stephen Harper attacked Justin Trudeau as only a bully and a political pervert could.

Smearing him in every possible way, distorting his words, questioning his masculinity, and trying to brainwash us into believing that he was just not ready.

And for years Justin just shrugged those attacks off, much to my dismay. Because I believe that bullies should be taught a lesson, put down, and humiliated.

But in London yesterday, at last, Trudeau finally rang Harper's bell.

Or left him in the dust.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has used an interview with an influential BBC current affairs show in London to issue his most pungent retort yet to his Canadian detractors.

“There’s an awful lot of people who sort of shrugged and said he has nothing but a name to go on and found themselves slightly bewildered as I left them in the dust,” said the prime minister.

And although what Trudeau said couldn't be more true, it enraged the Cons, had them screaming like banshees on social media, and in the comment sections of newspapers.

Or pouring crawling out of their new home to defend their fallen leader...

While the old Postmedia hack Kelly McParland did his best to try to deflate Trudeau.

Justin Trudeau has had a heady few weeks. A decisive election victory over a despised rival. A world tour on which he was greeted like a rock star by squealing fans, badgered for selfies at every stop and invited to hang out at the White House by an indulgent U.S. president who called him “Justin” and treated him like his new BFF.

It would be difficult to keep it all from producing a bit of swelling in the head area. And Trudeau demonstrated precisely those symptoms during a BBC interview in which he took a shot at critics who underestimated him.

Only to look like a bad loser. Slowly going crazy with bitterness.

That’s politics. To the victor go the spoils. Trudeau’s success or failure will be his own. But he would be deceiving himself if he thinks his party was elected on its policies rather than his personality, or that Canadians see him in any other context than as Margaret and Pierre’s son. And the bubble of good feelings will burst pretty quickly if he lets too much of the family ego slip to the surface as he did in London.

While Michelle Rempel had a hissy fit. Or an eruption of envy...

Because she simply can't understand why Justin is Prime Minister and she's just a immigration critic and refugee critic in a loser party going nowhere.

Where she gets to bray like a burro,

Or hang out with the bigot Ezra Levant...

Which if there was any justice or decency, should see Rempel fired TOMORROW.

But as for me, I thought Justin was far too modest.

Because he didn't just leave Stephen Harper in the dust.

He left him on the canvas, gasping for breath...

Or looking like a loser, who claimed his opponent wasn't ready, only to get flattened by him, lose his majority, and get carried off on a stretcher.

And the best news?

At The Rebel, they are trying to turn nostalgia for their late leader into yet another money making opportunity.

But it's just too late. He's down for the count.

The dust of time is slowly burying him.

And he's never coming back...

Part of what I think was going on with Trudeau not going after Harper like you wanted is that it doesn't seem to be a part of his makeup to punch down as it were. That he never really saw Harper personally as up to his weight to begin with. I suspect he saw more in Mulcair that way than he did Harper, and we both know there was little love lost between Trudeau and Mulcair from both sides of that equation.

I've been watching that reaction to the left them in the dust comment, and it has been hysterical indeed. After all, these are the same voices that said there was no way he could win, that he was nothing but an empty suit, not ready, etc etc etc. Yet he put together a team around his leadership, rebuilt his devastated party from the ground up, recruited a very high quality overall slate of candidates, ran a near pitch perfect election in the longest campaign in modern history, and won what no one thought was possible for any party, especially his, a majority government at its end, and he did all that in 2.5 years while under constant attack by the CPC government from literally day one of his leadership win. To describe it the way Trudeau did is if anything still a major understatement/underselling of it, and for this description of reality to so freak out these voices, well it does the soul good hearing it after the decade of Harperium.

The honeymoon may be mostly over in the media, but the wider public I suspect not so much, and I also suspect that the more Con voices come out like this and wildly overreact the longer they may end up pushing that honeymoon's duration in the wider public. It is not going to be a fun 4 years to be a Harperite, no, not at all!

Me, I'm going to drink as much satisfaction as I can from every femtosecond of it after the hells the Harperium caused me.

and now he gets to give the toast to the queen at the commonwealth dinner. Nice touch.

the cons are toast. it will take awhile for it to sink in, but it will and then it will be all over for them, for a couple of decades or forever.

If anything was well deserved it was this. All the nasty remarks directed his way by the cons were disgusting and this comment by Trudeau is pretty mild by comparison. What a bunch of bawl babies who can dish it out but they can't take it.

Anybody know who the new UK High Commissioner will be?

Or will JT give Campbell a pass?

Hi Scotian...I'm not criticizing Trudeau for shrugging off all the insults aimed at him by Harper and his sleazy Cons. It helped differentiate him from them, and my tendency to fly at bullies like a bat out of hell is hardly something to be emulated. But yes the way the Cons and some in the corporate media are criticizing his "in the dust" comment is pathetic . It couldn't have been gentler, it was totally true, and goodness knows Harper deserves it. And yes I'm enjoying the new Canada too,...

hi e.a.f... yes and a very nice toast it was, and so was the Queen's response. I also think the Cons are toast unless they stare reality in the face and truly understand what they did wrong. But they operated like a cult for so long, that won't be easy....

hi anon....you're absolutely right, it was a very mild comment, and after being viciously attacked for two years, Justin had every right to make it. Like most bullies the Cons can dish it out, but they can't take it. Too bad, because I don't have Justin's sweet temperament so I intend to go after the Cons as hard as I can... ;)

MSM are in the dust too. A majority of Canadians voted for Trudeau despite what MSM owners wanted. Wonder when they will clue in what their jobs really are, and that many are not interested in their opinions.

What I meant by not punching down, is that I think Trudeau is not into being a bully and that Harper was so far out of his class to reply in kind would have for him felt like bullying is what I meant. I didn't mean to leave you with the impression I thought you were criticizing him on this point, I always got where you were coming from on this point all along. You and I both have a fairly similar history where bullies are concerned after all and a fairly similar mindset on how they needs dealing with too.

My wife says she hasn't seen me this relaxed since just after we got married a dozen years back. The Harper years were something I had a very bad time with for reasons I've gone into around you many times before, and to finally be past them, and to have seen such a strong repudiation of Harper and his ways last month, well that really gives me hope that we might actually come back further and faster from this disaster than I once believed. Time will of course tell, but it is still a far less stressful way of being, and having all these right wingnuts going crazy over anything Trudeau says/does, well icing on the cake is an understatement.

Gordo Campbell has been the UK High Commissioner since 2011 (4 years)

Since the 1970's, the average time of the posting has been about 3.5 years.

make that s.o.b. come home and get a real job. He has been running through our tax dollars like there was no tomorrow. Some one ought to tell el gordo, the party is over, go back to Canada and you're off the public trough. His posting to the job was complements of Harper who was rewarding him for putting the GST in place and then loosing his job because of it. well the guy "gave away" B.C. Rail to one of his political supporters and he needs to come back and "face" the citizens of B.C. instead of hiding in England

hi anon...yes I agree, the MSM have emerged from the Harper years looking extremely grubby. They gave Harper a full body massage for almost ten years, and now they are trying to destroy Trudeau after only two weeks in office. They are nothing but lickspittles and stooges and it will cost them more than they can imagine....

hi anon...thanks for the link. Unfortunately I don't have a car, but a slighter smaller version might go nicely on my bike... ;)

hi lagatta...I thought it was charming scene. Justin was classy and the Queen was funny. And no doubt she is only too relieved that she doesn't have to deal with Stephen Harper any longer. For who can forget how he was always trying to stick to her like a fridge magnet for crass political purposes?
