Stephen Harper's Monstrous Propaganda War on Canadians

We know that Stephen Harper and his ghastly Con regime run the biggest propaganda machine this country has ever seen.

And that they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to brainwash us with our own money.

But who knew they're also spending a fortune trying to pass off propaganda as NEWS?

The Conservative government has been using a publicity agency to create and distribute government-approved news items to community newspapers, television and radio stations.

The federal government has a standing offer — worth up to $1.25 million annually — with News Canada Ltd., which provides content free and without copyright to editors through its website.

Where the truth is relative.

An undated video about the Nutrition North program available for use on the News Canada website states as fact that it has increased access to fresh foods in remote areas, leading grocery retailers to pass on the subsidy to consumers by reducing prices.

A quick Internet search for any real news story about Nutrition North might turn up results about how the auditor general said the aboriginal affairs department does not actually know whether that is true.

Or FRAUDULENT...

And always makes the Cons look good, even when it should make them look like callous beasts.

And should by chance the truth rear its muzzled head on one of those small news outlets, it quickly disappears down the memory hole.

Or undergoes an astonishing transformation from this:

The plan, he says, is particularly suited to to newcomer families from countries where daycare is almost unheard of.

"Instead of sending their kids to a big daycare, moms can stay at home, which they're used to, and get a tax benefit," he said.

To this:

Many new Canadians, Dechert said, prefer the Universal Child Care Benefit --the actual cash--to use for childcare services because they want to send their children in their formative years to daycare provided by somebody from their community, somebody who can speak the language and knows the culture.

They've often told me that mainstream daycare centres that might be sponsored by the government, like a public school, don't provide that kind of cultural learning" he said.

So it ends up sounding like it was dictated by the Con Ministry of Propaganda and Disinformation...

Because heaven forbid, we don't want to send immigrant children to public schools, where they could learn about Canadian culture. When for the few dollars their parents get, they can have a babushka in a basement.

Or even worse make it sound like Bob Dechert is promoting the income-splitting scheme scam as a plan to keep women at home...

When in fact that's exactly what it is, and why from its inception Jason Kenney has been its biggest promoter.

A plan to appeal to the Con's rabid religious base who want to keep women at home barefoot and pregnant.

Or in Kenney's case just barefoot and ignorant...

But then of course in this foul Harperland, the truth is...um...flexible, and dictated from above.

Because that's the way Great Leader likes it...

And in the original, less porky version, the moral of this immoral totalitarian story couldn't be clearer:

And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed – if all records told the same tale – then the lie passed into history and became truth. "Who controls the past," ran the Party slogan, "controls the future: who controls the present controls the past." And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory. "Reality control," they called it: in Newspeak, "doublethink."

1984

The Cons are brainwashing us with our own money.

And neither the truth or the country will be safe.

Until that ghastly cult is defeated.

And their depraved leader is sent down the memory hole of history...

PR Simon or Public Relations is what the Harper-cons call it not propaganda but propaganda is what it is pure and simple. What is that old saying "You can't fool all of the people all of the time but you can fool some of the people some of the time", eh?

Cheers,
Mogs

hi mogs...unfortunately you're right. It is propaganda, and all he has to do is fool some of the people, to get him to the point where he can win another election. I'm glad to see the opposition parties are raising a fuss about the ads, but they are going to have to be a lot more aggressive if they want to make that message count...

hi David...I wish progressives would make a lot more videos period. We live in a viral age, and YouTube videos are not hard to make, even if they do take time. The progressive parties should be making lots of them, and should not wait until the election campaign officially begins....
