The Big Storm and My American Nightmare

It's been a living nightmare. The dirtiest election I've ever seen.

An election corrupted by Big Money, two billion dollars worth of attack ads, and more Big Lies than you can count.

A frightening spectacle of a country so bitterly divided, it's eating itself alive.

But what shocked me the most was that despite last summer's devastating drought, the threat of climate change was all but ignored by both candidates.

So it seems ironic that eight days before the election Mother Nature should be giving them and their fellow Americans another wake-up call.

"The irony is that the two presidential candidates decided not to speak about climate change, and now they are seeing the climate speak to them," said Tidwell. "That's really what's happening here. The climate is now speaking to them -- and to everyone else."

And hopefully giving Obama's campaign a boost, by allowing him to act like a real leader, while Mitt Romney tries to explain why he hates federal disaster relief so much.

But will it make a difference? When so many Americans are so racist.

More Americans are expressing explicit anti-black attitudes now than in 2008, and that sentiment could cost President Obama on Election Day, according to a new Associated Press poll.

And others are so dumb they would allow a crass millionaire like Romney to convince them he's really a moderate, and an agent of change.

When he's just an agent for the super-rich, and the tool of right-wing billionaires like the Koch brothers, or his biggest cheerleader Sheldon Adelson.

Who wants Romney to end the "socialisation" of America, get the Justice Department off his back, and bomb Iran as soon as possible in the name of Greater Israel.

And Romney himself has vowed to kick thirty million people off medicare the day he takes office...

Even if those policies would result in mass misery, social unrest, environmental catastrophe, a new and brutal global recession, and maybe even a third world war.

Gawd. I was so sure that Mitt Romney had lost the election when he said he would go after Big Bird eh?

And wondered aloud why you couldn't open the windows of jet planes...

And when this blimp crash landed in a heavily democratic area of Florida...

I thought it was a good omen.

But now I see I was wrong.

I underestimated what Big Money could do with a Big Lie. I underestimated the power of bigotry and ignorance, and the madness of Amerika.

Like those who would defy Hurricane Sandy to come and get them with a flag in one hand and a rifle in the other...

As if the puny humans could challenge the power of Mother Nature.

Oh boy. What a nightmare. Who knew stupidity could bring down a mighty Empire?

Who knew it could kill us us ALL?

Who knew Homer, of all people.

Could be so horribly prophetic?

Wow! You're right about dumb Americans and especially racist ones. The ONLY reason this election is as 'close' as the media suggests is because Obama is BLACK. That's IT, that fucking ALL. Talk about your stupid, racist, angry white male!

Nah. It's also close because Obama is a useless Wall Street shill.

Most concerning about all of this was the complete non-issue of human caused climate change in this "election" race. In coming years, gutting the economy will be a competition from the bankster/Bain Fraudsters and the climate change. I have to agree with Thwap that Obama offered very little in way of differences with Romney, (besides the fact he is somewhat intelligent compared to the completely brain dead Romney) but in the end both answer to the same people...Wall Street.

hi thwap...when you have to raise a billion dollars to fight your enemies it's pretty hard not to shill for Wall Street. But despite all his flaws Obama is still better than the others, and when he is freed from having to run for re-election could still be a great President...

hi bcwaterboy...it's almost mind blowing isn't it? And after that brutal drought. As that climate scientist explained it, Obama surely knows the right thing to do, but he is sacrificing principal to politics, for votes in coal states like West Virginia. But then what choice does he have in a country like the U.S.? As I told thwap, he may not be perfect, but he's the best we got...

hi Dave...I can't see how any reasonable person can see it any other way. The demented way those tea baggers attacked Obama from the moment he assumed office can only be explained by the irrational hatred of racism. It's absolutely disgusting, and anyone who thinks the U.S. is the "greatest country on earth" has got to be deluded...

Yup, everyone who doesn't vote for Obama is a racists, keep living the dream man! Same goes for Canada I bet too. Olivia Chow should say that, maybe throw a fit in public too, ought to work wonders.
