The Conservative Lie Machine Strikes Again

The Parliamentary Budget Officer loves us.

The Conservative committee report that misused a quote from Auditor General Sheila Fraser also contains a potentially misleading reference to a statement from the country’s chief budget watchdog.

A laudatory statement attributed to the Parliamentary Budget Officer came not from witness testimony, but rather from his report on the summits dated June 23 — before the G8 gathering began, and months before the committee launched hearings into the more than $1 billion in G8/G20 government spending.

NOT.

The Liberals want to tax your I-pod.

NOT.

The claim a $75 levy was ever on the table—and that it was supported by the Liberals—is dubious for two reasons: first, contrary to Conservative claims, the Copyright Board never suggested the levy should be up to $75. That amount was proposed by a non-profit called the Canadian Private Copying Collective, which collects and distributes private copying royalties. But while they may not be the ones who collect it, it’s the Copyright Board that fixes levies on MP3 players, such as the ones that were in place until a December 2004 Federal Court decision struck them down. These ranged from $2 to $25.

It's actually the Conservatives who want to gouge us.

Raising questions about the parties' position on copyright and the private copying system is certainly fair game. But if the Liberals are asked to respond to iPod Tax claims, perhaps the Conservatives should explain why they left the prospect of millions more in consumer copyright fees or millions in lost revenue for creators under the existing system untouched in their copyright bill.

And screw Canadian artists.

Can you believe these Big Lie Cons?

Can you imagine what they would do if they ever got a majority?

How could ANYBODY trust them when they say they don't want to KILL medicare?

Fight them, fight them, fight them.

Don't let them win...
