Jerry Falwell and the Christian Taliban

Ding Dong the wicked wingnut is dead! Scratch another dangerous American Taliban off the most wanted list. And not just any wingnut Taleb either. The Big Daddy of the homophobe hordes. The monstrous Christian Ayatollah himself Jerry Falwell.

Woohoo! Allah Akbar! Praise the Lord! If I wasn't an atheist I might think that there is a god. And SHE is good.

``I shudder to think where the country would be right now if the religious right had not evolved,'' he said when he stepped down as Moral Majority president in 1987

I on the other hand weep for the America that might have been if Falwell and his theocratic thugs hadn't come along and poisoned its soul. Recruiting Republican voters...helping the criminal neocons seize power. By preaching hatred against gay people.

"Unfortunately, we will always remember him as a founder and leader of America's anti-gay industry, someone who exacerbated the nation's appalling response to the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic, someone who demonized and vilified us for political gain and someone who used religion to divide rather than unite our nation.''

Who knows how much damage his crazy bigotry caused. Who knows how many violent homophobes he inspired. How many gay lives were lost. The hands of that porky christofascist were slippery with gay blood.

Despite his mongrel hatemongering and his wacko views about how liberals, feminists and gay people were responsible for every bad thing including 911. And his demented jihad against Tinky Winky. The chickenshit MSM always treated him with kid gloves.

They solicited his opinion on everything. They made this Christian Taleb sound respectable. The idiot Wolf Blitzer was bragging tonight about how many times he'd had him on his show.

Even though everything he ever said sounded to me like this.

Oh yeah...I'm not mourning his death. I'm celebrating it. Just like they are in San Francisco.

Just like I celebrated the long delayed departure of that other Taliban leader last week. The bloodthirsty psychopath Mullah Dadullah.

He liked to make videos of himself cutting the throats of innocent people...or beheading them. He mutilated and murdered his opponents who he called infidels. He murdered gay people. He liked to throw the first stone at women sentenced to death for prostitution.

He was a bloodthirsty beast.

But the thing we need to remember is that if Jerry Falwell's Christian Taliban ever came to power they would do exactly the same thing. A religious fanatic is a religious fanatic. A Taleb is a Taleb.

But now the Ayatollah is dead. Ding dong. And so is the Mad Mullah. And what is there left to say?

Except of course....

Two Taliban down.

So many more to go...

Er, but the criminal neocons don't hate gay people. That's what separates them from non-neocons, isn't it? Or has this script been re-written yet again?

Though I guarantee you though that when Svend Robinson bites it (as in dies, not as in illegally stimulates the penises of pre-teen boys with his mouth), I'm gonna have a celebratory post to put you to shame.

So are Bush/Cheney evil neocons in power thanks to the likes of Falwell or are they not? Just 3 paragraphs ago you had them seizing power, and now suddenly they're out of it again. Fickle thing, this neocon business.

  2. Falwell indeed is the grandaddy of the christofacist homophobes that have made the US into the laughing stock of the world. Sad that he was never held accountable for the permanent damage he has done to LGBT people. The hate he spewed was as bad if not worse, than Adolf Hitler. I was absolutely sick watching Larry King Live last night where they paid "tribute" to this mass of shit. If there was an actual hell, Falwell is there now. Good riddance asshole.

  3. Religious homophobia ?
What about religophobia, that would be a better and more accurate label for some of your categories. In fact I would have to complain that you seem hateful toward a certain group or definable segment protected in Canada by "the charter", constitution and now a hate crimes law to curtail your kind of discrimination and propaganda of lies.

merde. the truth hurts when some people are hit with it, I guess.

Voltaire said something along the lines of..."we only owe the living respect, the dead we owe truth."

Gee Simon, some interesting folks coming out of the....woodworks...non? spouting all manner of gibberish. :)

new kilt in a couple of days. I'm gonna need a tweed jacket. ;)

Nice try blanks...Falwell gleed in the death of millions of people. Does he represent your "faith"? Christobots are so good at dishing it out but certainly can't take any criticism of their utter stupidity.

  6. Hello Love Child...you're right there is no need to say criminals and neocons. They both mean the same thing...when we're talking about the Bush regime. And I say they only HELPED them come to power. I'm also talking about a kind of theocratic state that Falwell envisioned I'm NOT saying that his followers succeeded in taking over the government. Not yet.
But as usual we'll have to agree to disagree on those matters. But as for Svend Robinson I'm afraid you've got me all wrong. I positively detest that wretched publicity seeker....and thief.
Tell you what....when you organize the Queen of the Ring Wake...you bring the beer and I'll bring the dope...

Hi Waterboy!! Yeah I have to agree. Several commentators have pointed out that his influence in the religious right movement had waned...but he's the one who started this whole nonsense about telling other people how to live their lives...even if they don't believe in their hateful ju ju nonsense. The media gave that freak far too much airtime to spread his bigotry and general wackiness.to paraphrase what one diva said about another. One mustn't speak bad about the dead.Jerry Falwell is dead. Good....

  7. Blanks....my little hot cross bunsy...as I told you in my last post religion is nonsense...get that through your head. I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home or place of worship just don't try to make the rest of us believe what you do. I don't. I believe in live and let live. You religious fanatics are the ones who are always attacking us.For your sake get a life and stop worrying about the next one. It ain't going to happen. In the meantime I'll continue to hate those who hate me. As for Falwell he was a bigot pig and I'm happy he's gone. A few weeks ago he told CNN he had asked his god to give him twenty more years.I guess either god doesn't exist or Jerry was real bad...

Hi Jay!!! yes I have had some interesting comments...but as for hot cross bunsy I blame it all on ignorance. The more educated people are the more people recognize religion as the fraud it is. The fatal delusion that blinds us to what really needs to be done to make the world a better place.
As for the kilt and the tweed...now you can run for the SNP in the dark hinterland north of the Moray where I come from...and rail against the Sassenach. Or rent a range rover and drive around like a lordy laird! Just what we need...
I hope the school year went well :)

  8. I wasn't refering so much to Jerry Falwell whom I would consider a little too Liberal. I was refering to your vitriolic toward those are protected by the charte and constitution in this country and that they are now protected by the Svend Robinson hate crimes law from the king of hatful propaganda you and your friends seem to be making record of.That' all. I realise Jerry Falwell is American but you are from Montreal and Montreal, like it or not is still in Canada, for now at least.

We know how many, that’s why we fight. Read my blog and my memories of the start of his asshole movement. He may be dead but that hateful legacy lives on. Our lives would be so much easier if that that fat old fart had never lived. It isn’t ideology we’re dealing with, it’s contemptuous ego.

  10. Actually, I never said anything about linking "neocons" with "criminals". As you noted, Svend Robinson is a criminal and likely not a "neocon" (but I'm sure there's a definition underway which will include him). On the other hand, Ashcroft is constantly considered the crown prince of modern-day neoconerica and despite rantings of Dan Savage hasn't been found guilty of anything.

So Falwell "helped" into power a man who wouldn't envision the "theocratic state" Falwell wanted? I'm confused. (Likewise, odd that Pat Robertson is bandied about as Falwell's coconspirator/disciple/lord/etc., seeing how Falwell had the chance to endorse Robertson specifically in '88 but chose not to).

BTW waterboy, if we're looking at who does "permanent damage" to homosexuals, Falwell's at the far end of that line (after, well, pretty much every pitcher in the sodomite train, who does actual damage rather than just hurts people's feelings).

"Every pitcher in the sodomite train"? Dumb statement. If you are referring to sex, Heteros do much the same things in bed as we do, are just as vulnerable to disease if promiscuous, and are no better or worse than we are. Get off your high horse before you fall off. Falwell smiled at the deaths of people from AIDS, caused by a virus, and was in a large part responsible for turning it into a social stigma. Falwell got away with publicly degrading people because of his "rev" status. He did a lot more than just "hurt people's feelings".
